Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

SF - If I had everything set up, I'd take the quail. But wont be ready for adult birds for another 2-3 weeks. Also - a 3 - almost 4 hour drive one way kinda sucks... LOL The thought is there for sure.

For the record, I agree with your Hubby re/ moving the birds.

Moving sucks eh? LOL 21 years in the USMC - I've had my share of moving....

hi all, Ski, I have about 5 quails left.. IDK about males/females

SF what kind of plucker did your DH make? I built a couple and was thinking of modifying one for quails.. mine are styled after the Whizbang....

my vote is for moving chickens in their pens.. they are not going to be any more stressed, one way or the other.. the only stressed one will be you.. on a trailer, go slow for 3 miles ..be all over in 20 minutes.. be realiistic..

I made burgers on the grill for supper.. like a picnic already..

Jeeze - what a beautiful day....

Think I'll throw some High Speed Beef (Venison) Loins on the grill - - If only the Morel mushrooms were out, life would be perfect. Have to settle with some store bought Shitaki's, onions and fresh garlic sprouts.... Every time I burp tomorrow, I'm gonna make myself hungry!

You watch your language, Ski!

Evening all!
Wow! I agree what a Beautiful day! The dogs finally go to play with their Christmas presents. Santa brought them Frizbees of various types and textures. The small dogs were not too thrilled because Santa forgot to bring them small dog frizbees....
They sure had fun careening about the yard chasing after them.

Dh and I finished giving Tylosin to the chickens that needed it. We also wormed a couple that were a little light and Miss Buzzy got wormed. She is so pretty. He feathers are just amazing and she is such a pet. I had to grab her carefully so she would not drop her tail so I grabbed her back feathers and she just stopped and let me pick her up. She flapped a couple times and was like Ok I'm caught. Whatever. we checked her and the others for bugs and no one has any tiny livestock. After we wormed her and stuck her back in her pen, She kept trying to swallow the wormer paste and just glared at us! So silly.
Dh was holding her and could not believe how tame she is for a pheasant. She sure is a cool bird.

Other then that, we just enjoyed the day.

Good evening! Yes it was a fantastic day to be outside. Got the girl goats moved back in with the boy goats...maybe I will be lucky and have some July babies? They were happy to be out of the barn and into the sun for sure. The tortoises got to go outside today too. They must have circled their garden 50 times! Rita was like a windup toy! CLarence didnt walk as much but he did find some very young dandelions and some grass to munch.
I ate my lunch outside with Tommy on my lap cause the Blue Am Roos did NOT care for him to be in THEIR yard! He is such a baby!

I thought I would come on here and read all about everyone setting their eggs! NOBODY? MIne are in! I have some double deckered too...I figured the clears will make space in a bout a week...watch they will ALL develop. Theincubator is taking a lot of time to get back up to temperature with all those eggs in there! THe foolish hatch is on!!!
I gathered eggs and had to wash them today...the mud is something else. THe wind helped a bit but they were very dirty. I had so many eggs in the fridge that I decided to boil 4 dozen. The people are having egg salad for sandwiches tomorrow. I think I will make a potato salad for dinner too...I can use a few more then. All the animals will get one on their food too. Cheap protein! (or maybe that is expensive protein?) I was saying I need more egg customers and guess what? A lady from Johnson Creek was driving by and stopped to buy some!

I told her to tell her friends!

Your dinner sounds great Tom! I have never eaten a morel mushroom...thought I found some on the Castle Rock trails one year but when I consulted my book they were "False Morels" Yup--poisonous! But last spring I found some under my oak in the back. I am hoping that they come back...it was too late to eat them.
Gotta go and make the Hollandaise sauce,....later! Terri O

You wouldn't want to breed that roo though in case it is a heredity problem. At least that is what they say about silkies with crossed beaks. It could just be from incubating but you never know.
Is the hen related ?

The hen is not related. I wouldn't breed him. It was a shipped egg so it may not be hereditary, but I wouldn't take any chances. I just thought if anyone was more comfortable indroducing 2 chickens to their flock rather than one I could give up a hen.

Evening All....sorry about your Uncle Ken.. May he RIP.

Congrats on the broody Buckeye Terri....that must of been the extra one you decided to take. Hope she does good for you. Mine are laying well....collected 13 eggs today. None broody yet. Kinda perfect timing for you, eh!

Belated Birthday mx...hope you had a great one. Women your age are young chicks to me!

Grilled chicken to perfection this afternoon...ended up eating at the picnic table in the sunshine with a beer wash.....gotta love this weather. Cherry cheese cake for desert.....heaven for sure.

Dooner the feathers will grow back after a molt. They might be bare awhile yet. Smart move removing the picker. I prefer layer mash from the mill. Others like what they use....my hens lay well.

I think I was outside TOO much today! My cheeks feel a little burnt!

Kidnapped my sis and took her to a wine tasting today (after the morning walk with the dogs), we wandered around New London for a while checking out the city workers getting ready for all the Irish festivities for the next week. They re-name the city New Dublin for the week and have all kinds of Irish themed activities going on. Came home and lost track of time so we are eating dinner NOW....

Picked up a few things while out with my sis; a pair of running shoes, a book on strength training, and a book for my oldest DS on How To Stay Alive in the Woods. He has had his nose buried in it since I told him it was here. LOL!

BF4, my cousin said there is a running tracker app for your phone that allows you to connect with other people so they can sort of help you motivate??? I'll try to figure out what the app is, that way we can get each other motivated...... I am more of a doing work for exercise type of person. Not a big fan of just getting up and running for nothing.....
sickbyc.gif
but I have signed up for these mud runs as motivation to get my butt in gear so I have better start or I will be at the bottom of the pile! She would also like me to participate in a off-road bike race..... I am more game for that than all this running crap. :D Thank goodness my work will pitch in money for a new bike!
