Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I got the eggs from friends, as I do not have a rooster right now. The JBG that my friend gave me were the dirtiest eggs I have seen in a while, I really did not think they would have a great hatch rate but they were at 100%

The Barnyard mix were suppose to be a Black Sexlink Rooster over a Black Sexlink, Red Sexling, and Welsumer hens....but feathered legs say the Light Brama was not taken out of the coup early enough!

TO- you can chalk it up to beginners luck if you want, but I will always know the real reason...

Final #'s Received 33 eggs, candled on day 7, threw out 3, hatched 29 of 30....

Apparently I will not have time to relax, because now the pheasant eggs start coming from a game farm that wants me to do it for them! Have to check the electricity bill and see what I will have to charge.

Working for chicken feed has a whole new meaning now!

Rainy Day here too. Congrats on the great hatch mazo. You set the standard high for your next hatch you know? Keep that up and you wil be building more pens.

I'm setting April Fools Day CC....it was one of the other guys that saw the culprits tracks...can't say for sure who? Poor memory, or old age, or both. Managed to kill a few brain cells along the way somehow.

Hope you folks eating grocery store burger are enjoying the pink slime they add to the meat...

EXACTLY! I am afraid to buy it for my dog. I get the shanks instead. The store usually grinds if you buy early in the morning.

OMWord! I"m so mad I could cuss some REALLY bad words! possible even cry! so yesterday we FINALLY divided up our chickens. Talk about being sore! lol I could barely get out of bed this morning. Of course DH alarm failed him AGAIN! so I had to FLY out of bed, and help him get out the door. but anyway I was out feeding the critters, I think I tripled my morning routine dividing them all up, anywho, I told the call ducks (2, male/female) that they are next. I'm gonna move you to the duck coop I told them so they can... ...we you know. lol anywho I go into the house and the dogs are whining that they want in I walk to the door (patio door that goes into the screen porch theres a doggy door leading outside in the other wall) opened it and bend over to pick up the food dish and I notice that the big dog went outside? I step to the food bag and notice that stupid dog has my female call duck!

the dog figures that if it's in her area it's fair game. I am so ready to trade this dog in for a newer/cuter/SMALLER model! How the h3!! do I deal with a dog who kills things in her fence? lets see, she has killed 1 call, 2 muscovies, a close call for a del hen and a guiney, and I think there was a kill of another hen?? i can't remember.

I'll catch up reading later, I just had to tell you all that
anybody have a female call duck (black and white?) thats ready to lay soon? or is laying? I got someone who was looking forward to call ducks.
GRRR! I'm so freekin mad!

Happy Belated Birthday MXM! Sorry so late. Thanks for the comment sometimes I wonder if anybody reads me.

Goofy me. LOL

Mr EE is doing the 2 second drill, only he doesn't do it in my presense. I saw him this morning start but he took one look at me and jumped away. Huh. I think he is getting a little better being penned and seeing me. I suppose it will take time.

mazojoe those newly hatched chicks are too cute.

My incubating experience this year is not good so far. At least I got those 5 chicks and a 3 mixes. Hope my percentage goes up. But the cochins decided to take a break. At least their bums are trimmed when they decide to start laying again.

My house was hot last night. Rained most of the night but today it is just cloudy and nice. No more snow here. I had to open up a window. I live in a trailer, a somewhat nice and remodelled one, but still a mobile home and it gets pretty hot. The landlords insulated the walls but not the ceiling so I think all that does is trap the heat inside more. I might move this year as the landlords are very nosey and yell a lot. I have never had this experience before and don't think it is proper to do this. I dont say anything back because I wouldn't do that to strangers. I guess they somehow don't know what a boundary is. I think I will buy the old man neighbor some new shorts at Goodwill and give them to him as I am not wanting to see all the equipment this summer if I stay. He wears hte cut off sweat pants then hikes them up real high. Now I gotta figure out what size he wears. He has been in my basement several times this winter and possibly in my house as the door was wide open one day when I came home. One day I caught him with a bunch of copper pipes coming out of my basement. creepy. He looked really guilty and made up some false story. I am thinking of changing the locks if I stay even though you are not supposed to. It is hard to feel like a prisoner in your own home. Two summers is putting me at the limit. In the winter the landlords go down south so I get a 3 month vacation. Not long enough! I am now starting to have nightmares again as they will be back mid April. Then the lease runs up June 1st and they are real sticklers on that too. Only they can give me the lease a month late and still mark it as June ist start date. I am a long time renter and always have been but this is almost too much stress for me. I sure wish I could buy a cheap place. I would be happy with a couple acres and a shack.

I saw a couple bugs yesterday. No tics yet. I guess it is time for the frontline for Tiger. After her limes experience last year I don't want to take any chances because she is 11 years old.

Cute Dak' hund FT So sorry raimnel :(.

Here is my LF flock in their pen. They seem pretty content. The plastic is what's left of the winter greenhouse on the side pen. I should finish removing that today.

.

I got a quick side shot before he turned. He is still very wary. And there is always one in the bunch (bottom)
.

Raim,

How far are you from GreenBAy. There is a girl in Little Suamico that has calls. She has an ad on CL now for silkies, frizzles. http://greenbay.craigslist.org/grd/2879576325.html

Her name is Amber. I talked to her on the phone the other day about showgirls etc.
She is harder then H3ll to get ahold of.
She said best time to call is between 5&7pm

Ok, spent the whole day on the phone and online, ordering checks, trying to transfer money from one checking to another (because I ran out of checks)

What a PITA !!!!!!!!

Ok, got chicken chores to do downstairs, again !!! I really really have to start selling silkie eggs SOONNNNNN time for more feed !!

one in the bunch. She is smaller than the rest. Time for a wing clip when I catch her. She weighs about 4 lbs. Augh That coop looks shabby. I want to take the stupid siding off and paint it barn red with white trim. Maybe.

Go get 'em!

Hey TerriO! Ah the half marathon I'm talking about is the Tyranena beer half marathon in November. Where they give you free Tyranena beer and a lasagna dinner afterwords... need I say more?

That's all the carrot I need! I see this one you're talking about is coming up in May. Fun to know there are other 1/2Ms in the area! It's rather amazing how many runs are in Wisconsin on any given spring/summer/fall weekend!

Yay mazojoe for the fuzzy butts! Thanks for showing and telling! So sweet!

The fact that chickens eat ticks is a major selling point... they'll be so durn happy here.

WIChookchick! I wrote this a couple of days ago! ---> I was sooooooo dazzled by your list o pets everything else you said must've fallen out of my brain!

Well thanks so much for setting me straight! My parents in law live in Stoughton. That's not too terribly far from where you are, correct? I'd love to hear about the chickens you have who are looking for new digs! Thank you Thank you!

Have a good day everyone!

Did I mention all my spare time is taken up by R&D for these future chickens?

I need some voices of experience here, could you help me?

I'm looking to build with hugsband, a chicken tractor with a run attached. (There are resident hawks, coyotes, fox, feral cats, the list goes on and on)
This is the basic idea.

Am thinking about a wire floor for their coop. For wintertime thinking about adding a tray underneath. -along with panels on the sides of the run for warmth.
Do chickens need to have the straw "litter" under their feet if they have access to an in-cage feeder / grit /what have you and then the grass on the ground down the the chicken ladder???

Thanks from the newb!
