Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well I had an interesting day, some good some not so much..
BUT all in all I had a very fun time meeting Apyl and her wonderful family....DH and I may end bringing Pepper, an ACD mix that Apyl took in Home with us, if our dogs get along with her...
If they truly want to give her up.
Got a late start of the day, got headed up to where Apyl lives, we got there, and got to meet her wonderful DH, and 3 WONDERFUL DC!! And her wayy to cute dogs, and uber cute chicks and ducklings!!
So we went up to do the trade to take her old van off her hands.. all pleasantries said, twirling of youngest DD,
I go to start the van and click, click click...
SO we all think its the battery is low.. so we try to jump start it.. NOPE...
Try a bigger vehicle, her DH's truck.. still nothing. Apyl goes and checks online, and comes back with some bad news.
The solinoid is bad on the starter, it went bad, as they tend to do, at the worst moment.
The good news is that our current van's starter will work ( I will double check), and DH and I will be back up next sunday. Which is fine with us, cuz we get to
visit more and it was a great drive!!
You know there was a storm due tonight.. when we got home it seems nice.. now the wind is howling and rain is splattering on the window..

On the good news front, KingDr's (a BYC member) silkie hens, H&R's Welsummer we got from her as a chick, and FT's rooster are all on breeding loan to a
wonderful young lady who I am HOPING will someday come on BYC. I will get them back in may.
Also my black/blue silkie cross hen that was hatched out last year has decided to go broodie again. I am seriously hoping she will stay on eggs this time as I
want to stuff some serama eggs under her, if anymore get laid by those hens.

I will be making some phone calls to ABC and CBS tomorrow, and find the numbers to affliliate stations in ND and WA. I am going to make LAPD, the company I worked for, their lives a living
He!!. IF they don't get me my money and my paychecks. Basically they have a "on your side" part of their news shows...
I have had it up to my eyebrows with these people.
Night all
Carol

Hi all!

Well, looks like I'm in for the Foolish hatch anyway! That Ameraucana that was "almost" broody stayed on the nest at roost time and finally got that broody stare! So I quickly cleaned out the broody cage and put some eggs in there. Looks like it'll a BYM for her to hatch. The fathers are 2 Ameraucanas and a Golden Comet (PR) Maybe I can breed some later to get what I want... but then, I'm looking for a few new breeds to add so maybe I'll get chicks

Ahhhh chicken math! Anyway... we'll see how it goes. When I moved her and the eggs she seemed fine about it. Nice and quiet where she's at. When I checked on her I almost didn't see her.... she was all flattened out and had covered her back with straw.... a good sign she plans on staying.... but, this is her first time and Ameraucanas are only "sometimes" broodies.

Happy late birthday MXM!

Carol... hope it all works out for you!

My darling little Natas cat decided to go play at the neighbors. The place has been abandon for years and she brought back a tick!!!!

AND.... Both toilets are backed up again! Had trouble with them, I think in Nov. and my DS#2 replaced a piece of pipe. Now it's doing the same thing! And since it's a drain thing... no flushing toilets, no doing dishes, and I didn't get a shower after cleaning the coop!

OK... I'll live... just feel "creepy crawly" and "stinky/dirty"!

On a better note... the girls were loving it today! Very important chicken work going on in the gardens and along the fence line! Storky got "stuck" where the guineas usually do, but I showed her how to get out of it... hope she learned!

Guess that's it.... Night All!

MxM I am signed up to do 2 Dirty Girl Mud runs; one in June and one in August. I am also considering signing up for a off road bike race ( I prefer biking). Just something to do to get into shape and get off my butt, my motivation!!! I have some petty reasons too, it is my 20th class reunion this year and if I go, I want to look fantastic!!! ;)

I see it is now 1 AM..... better hit the hay.

Got up this morning, well didn't sleep very at all with chicks hatching. The count this morning is 28 of 30 hatched #29 piped adn #30 has no action. I would say pretty good for my first hatch. I finally took advice and didn't worry about the temp and humidity swings and everyone seems to have done just fine. The old farm house I live in made temperature difficult and my wood burner made humidity difficult at times.

It is going to be a long day at work thinking about the new fuzzy butts

Good Morning Everybody! My day is starting out weird. Heard a noise on the back porch, stood in the doorway to identify. Then it came to me there's a ground squirrel out there. This ought to be interesting. The only place it could have gotten in was around the sump hose opening and I thought I had that pretty well plugged. MxM Happy belated B'day! Nice lookin roo FT! Yup Cind warm weather and now rain. =TICKS! Sorry to hear of your water woes! Not fun. Just a few piles of white left here. The big kids are gettin farther into the woods. Had a great time with the human kids yesterday but dad got stuck with the dishes today. Dd latche don to Blackie and her Beau held his first chick. My plan is coming together.

WCC hope you get your starter troubles figured out almost sounds like it could be a bad connection. Has the starter been changed before? Check the hot wire going to it. But could be a bad solenoid too. Put way too much wood in the stove last night WOW! CC I'm with ya on the start playing. Better get my dishes started and then open the back door, going to have to sit there and watch. Need to know if it goes out. Don't want it standing on my chest at 3AM. mazo that has to be a record hatch Congrats new Dad!

We've never changed the starter. It's weird cause we never had an issue with it starting before. It's been our daily driver for the last 3 years and I just parked it 3-4 days ago when my I got my truck fixed. We had it parked out of the way but it was in the mud so DH moved it yestarday around noon to a dryer spot and we cleaned it out. By time WCC came and tried to leave the stupid thing clicked. Its never happened before. The battery had good juice, the door chimes ding, the lights inside come on, the dash lights up but when you go to turn it over, just clicks. WCC and DH cleaned the terminals up and still nothing. :(

I cant BELIEVE you got that great of a hatch rate first time out! I am so ****** jealous. My first try I got12 shipped eggs, 3 hatched, 1 survived. I hope you get a terrible case of chicken math...
