Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all,

Little chilly in the house, feels good !!! I did have to close one of the bedroom windows last night. The draft above my head was a bit to much !!

Well, another trip tot he feed store is in the plans for today. TG the snow is melting so the chickens can start foraging !!

Oh and DrHa, I only paid shipping on the silkie eggs that are coming in todays mail. The seller owed me eggs because she sent me some silkies that had been crossed with a Cochin and the partridge had HUGE lumpy combs and single combs (which is a no no with silkies) and they were advertised as show quality !!! She told me to remind her when I was ready for more eggs that she would send them for the cost of shipping.
I wouldn't have gotten them if they weren't lavenders and lavender splits. I'm still trying to get my lavender silkies going.

And as for the Lavender Orps, well, that is BigFam and CC's fault. They signed me up for the Luscious Lavender Ladies Club of WI and I'm president. So i guess I have to have some lavenders. And Missy, (Tomski's former LO hen) quit laying now that she has done the 2 minute deed with Mr lavender !! I was going to say 3 minute deed but that would make BigFam jealous !!!

So there you have it in an egg shell !!! Did I mention the school in Antigo has 31 green and blue eggs to hatch ? (sorry 2 are white polish cross, which could be part Ameracauna)(should be interesting)

So like I said Some of YOU are hatching and chicken addicts. I never said I had a problem !!!

Lost my cel phone last night, think it might be buried in the truck someplace !!! Crap, I hate driving to town without it.
Frenchie... I don't remember voting you president? I might have been drunk though, so I could have...;) That's right.... Luscious Lavender Ladies Club of WI. ( LLLCW). If you get your @ss in gear and get some Orps going we could do the club. Club dues will be to swap chicks to encourage a nice variety to the lines. Speaking of clubs and Presidents... I think I elect TO as President and FT as Vice President of the "I Refuse To Admit I'm An Animal Addict" club............

hi foks, hi newbies

if I can make this work here are a few pics of the new additions here

in this pics there are some Blue Copper Marans, Black Marans, and 2 Birchen Marans (oliver egger cross)

the above would be the Birchen (pretty sure, lol)

I'm new to this so maybe some experienced growers can chime in as to what's what, I think the greyer chicks should be the Blue Copper eventually
These are 18 days old, all survived the move and the 1st scarey night in the new brooder, active and busy today. 18 chicks ate 1/2 coffee can of feed and emptied 2 qts of water,,,learning as we go here (as you can see I didn't get the brooder painted YET!

Last I remember hearing, she was pretty miffed about her former employer & was going to contact a bunch of people pertaining to that whole situation. She might just be busy getting all that going, I hope.

NJ, sometimes one just sneaks out when they aren't expecting it, especially when they are young. It happens, but doesn't usually become habitual. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

MLH, I hope SGs hatch is successful.

Cute ugly chicks, Dan.

Once again the weathermen got it wrong down here. They said a high of 60 today. Yeah right. More like 80! I was sweating trying to clean the coop out this afternoon. DH came home with refreshments (he called it medication to help with his cold

) so I called it done until tomorrow. Or Saturday. Depends on the weather, since I want to really clean it out good, hose out the inside & give it a good scrubbing. It doesn't get cleaned out nearly as well or as often in the winter, so I want to take advantage of the nice weather we've been having. I just hope it lasts. Well that's all I got. Sweet dreams, all!

Went to the feed store today. Got to talking (ok well I neve stop) and there was a customer there with his father and daughter. I was telling the owners that I have 31 chicks due to hatch at the school in three weeks. That is exactly what they wanted to get so I've found a home for the chicks already.
I told him about BYC and the Cheeseheads so hopefully we'll have another new member.

Then I went to Fleet Farm and got to talking (Ok no comment) to an older guy in the check out. I saw he was buying a chick water and built up courage to start talking
gig.gif
and asking him what kind of chickens he had. He has Welsummers, Doms and ??? He said nice talking with ya as was done with his purchase. Then I was done and for some reason I was drawn to this guy and I yelled out "Hey" ! And continued our conversation in the parking lot !!
One thing led to another and when I said I had draft horses we started talking about them. He has 4 Bels (Belgians) and they all drive. Long story short we exchanged phone numbers and I asked him if I could come and drive his horses (with his help of course) I've driven a pair of haflingers once. Never the big guys. This is going to be great !!! He lives in Pound, no problem, Want to drive, will travel to do so !!! LOL Gave him the BYC info as well.
Boy am I glad I got over my case of shyness !!!

I got to thinking, all of the people that refer so many others to BYC should get credit and get a Golden Membership or something all of the referrals.

Ok, gotta go check emails, checking account etc.

Staying home tomorrow and working on cleaning some of the coops.
