Welcome Jacob !!! You will love it here on CheeseHeads !! We're all obsessed with chickens !!! And some of us are also gung ho over ducks, guineas, peafowl, turkeys etc.

Happy Easter everyone !!

Well, I decided that I am going to Racine after all. I woke up at 7am and felt terribly guilty. I said to Chuck. I wonder what baby Addie is going to be wearing for Easter ??? Hint Hint I asked if he would help me do the silkie's today. Feeding and watering takes me a few hours. He said he would just do them for me. ..............
yesss.gif
so I could get an earlier start !!

Well, I managed to use my last pair of good clean shoes outside doing chickens one day so needless to say I have them in the wash right now. You can't go to someone with a clean house and a baby with chicken shoes !!! And who knows it the stores are open today !!!
th.gif
I know I know, but it's just not that easy changing shoes around here. I have to basically get dissassembled to do it so I wear my good ones outside !!!! SH!T !!!

On the good news !!!!!

I have 2 Lavender Orps that hatched yesterday !!!!! From the eggs I got from the woman in MI. Also another one that was marked Lavender but it is real dark. So we shall see. And one Lavender / cross from her. Not a good percentage for eggs that weren't shipped.
A lot of clears.
Plus 4 siilkies. Some are suppose to be lavender splits and some are from BBS pens. Those are shipped eggs and they even had ruptured air cels, all of them. There were 24 eggs though. I did help out out and it died later. I made the stupid stupid mistake of not looking at my calender and didn't put them in lockdown. That wasn't the problem though. All of the ones that developed did hatch, perfectly actually. Just that they hatched with the turner in place. They didn't get squished but they did get stuck inbetween the turner. I noticed they were hatching yesterday so I turned the turner off while we were outside with the neighbor while he worked on our golf cart. I didn't know we would be outside so long. Anyway, found a few upside down etc. That's why I helped te last one out because I wanted to get it out and into the brooder. I did drop it though, the egg and all while I was inspecting it. So don't feel bad BBP, it happens to the best of us.
It did lose a lot of blood and the others kept picking on it. Itwas a beautiful blue/silver silkie.
I have one paint sikie that hatched out with spaddle leg (sp). I am going to have DH put it down. It ticks way out to the side........ Poor thing. It is so fat and fluffy too...
hit.gif

I do have to say though that they all hatched despite the fact that I didn't increase the humidity. I was impressed. I;m thinking of not increasing it for my next hatch (no bf4m not the silkies) and see how it goes. My air cells never seem to get as big as they should. Might work better this way.

I set 8 muscovy eggs that I got in the mail this morning and a few guinea eggs just for you bf4m. Just so you know I will gladly bring you some guinea chicks !! And I won't charge you for them girl. You'd have to be crazy to think I would do that !!! And of course if I get lavender silkies I'll give you one !!!!

Oh, I let my muscovies out yesterday and they all decided they were going to go for a walk. Two of them walked all the way through the yard then decided to walk to my 20 acres. Got the ATV and rounded them up. My favorite black and white one can not be found. Hopefully she will come back. Figures my favorite.
I just wanted to let them play in the water for a while. I had no idea they would leave their nest that they have been sitting on. I guess I need to read up on Muscovies hey?

Ok, better get ready to head to Racine.

Have good one all !!!!

Welcome Jake!

Happy Easter everyone!!!!!

Oldest DD got me up bright and early for a morning run, now all I want to do is take a nap! I was up LATE last night watching some of the Twilight movies..... I should actually say I was torturing myself watching them, the acting is so bad. I thought that if I am going to constantly rip them to shreds that I should watch them so I can REALLY rip them to shreds. Besides, now when I watch RiffTrax rip them it will be so much funnier.

I'll try to convince my ducks to get broody by the 17th so I have baby calls for the Bash. I know Amyable has a friend who picked up two last year and would like more. I guess Amy ran over there at took some pics of the ducks; they are soooooo beautiful! It is so nice to see them all grown up and enjoying life.

Boy, 2 6 yr old Appys....... that would be hard to turn down. I would follow the fantastic advice that was given. I do have one question though; why is it a red flag if the horse is already groomed for you? Is this to hide any issues the horse might have about brushing or feet picking?

Still have to load Easter Eggs, dye eggs, and get some of the snack food ready for later this afternoon/evening..... I should get my nap in now.

TO I now have 3 that look like they have the Pheonix genes in them. Was thinking about it and I'm sure I said that one was named Jack. I was wrong [again] that was Freckles, Jack looks similar but not as colorfull. Then there's Skunk he has a white band of feathers around his bee hind. But far and away the most beautiful! On a sad note think Bit*h is going the way of the one PR I lost not long ago.

She's having good days and bad. Had to pick her and take her to the coop last night. Doesn't look good. Going to have to go out and spend time with them today. EL that's a really nice coop! Nothin wrong with barn red! Maybe it's a man thing? Jim congrats on the first hatch! If you want to unload an extra 1/2" drill I could use one. Figure out what you want for it and I'll get it at the Bash. The one I have is a cheapie and is about shot. Bigz and everyone thanks for the congrats on the DD's accomplishment! Yes I'm a very very PROUD Papa! Can't even imagine all the work that poor kid had to go through to get this far. Got to see the son-in-law for the first time in a long time, had a good time with him too! Making plans to go to Ga to see them in the future. The ex and her neice came too and had fun with them. The ride there and back was so strange think we only got passed 3 times until we got to KC and I was only running 3-4mph over. Very few cops too. Then on the way back we saw 4 Wi cops within 50 miles. Go figure. Was expecting Ks to be like Ne or SD but it had some really neat landscape. Was expecting a band of PO'd indians on horses to appear on a ridge top at any second. Took a tour of the college, quite the facities they have. Talked to the Dean for a bit didn't know who he was till later. I'm sure I impressed him.

Oh well, I will raise a few and see what I got.. maybe it will be a good cross to sell to the Asian market ..

I just set 26 guinea eggs.. brings the grand total to 177.. tomorrow I will move 33 Barrocks and Dels to the hatcher..

Annie found a nest with guinea, turkey and goose eggs in it.. All the eggs are now placed in their proper nests.. I just wonder how many more nests there are hidden on this place..??

I honestly didn't know until this post that there were lots of different chicken breeds that laid the blue green eggs. Someone gave us our mixed chickens when we started out last year and we've just learned that the grey one was the one laying green eggs ans that she was an americauna.

Here's a pic of 6 of our 8 adults we have. They are close to 3 years old. I truly don't know what the other ladies are.

Who's from Cashton on here? I swear I saw someone was. I'm getting my Nigerian dwarf doelings from Cashton next Saturday. They are beautiful.
big_smile.png

I'm the one that mentioned Cashton. We live NEAR there and got our original chickens from a lady there and we got to Cashton once a month or so to get our feed, and in the summer we go to the Amish auctions there as well.

HAPPY EASTER!

I thought I was just on here yesterday. and 6 pages? Wow

Thanks for the link kristip!

Welcome Jakub. The barred rock in the avatar is very pretty. It almost looks like a ringlet. Are you getting some of those? I would like to get ringlets someday but need to stick with some smaller chickens for now.

I read all the posts but can't remember much.

Those 13 lavender eggs are stretching really thin......hope they all hatch. But at least he is selling chicks also. And they are the Hinkjc line? NICE!!!!!!! I would jump to pay $5 a chick for Hinkjc lavender orpingtons. Again another big bird I cannot afford. I have seen how you can feather sex your chicks at a few days old. I will have to search for the link. And when the feathers grow on the back, the girls have their backs feathered first, the boys have bare backs longer. And the boys have a more tubular abdomen.

The Buff girls and the EEs are very pretty EL. So is the white leghorn. ? I see she likes to keep herself nice and clean.

Whats wrong with a well broke 6 year old horse? That seems like at least 2 1/2 years good training. idk? that much about horses.

Sorry about the chicken losses. I have one named same name DrH but she is mellowing out in her old age.

I bought 2 packs of OOPS BASIL pesto seeds for $1 at johnnys last week on their sale page.

My Blue Wheaton Ameraucana Roo seems to be too young and timid to fertilize. He is now with the banties practicing. I have my EE rooster in with my girls so it looks like all I am going to be getting is EE eggs. I think they are going to be very pretty. Some people think my EE roo is either a gold duckwing or a salmon colored roo. Some think he is a cream colored something or other. Anyway I think he is pretty.
