Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey all---not a lot of rain here. Good thing cause it is SO muddy here already--it is very tough walking unless I wear my BIG winter boots with the tread. It is really too hot for that though!
Amy--all I can say is WOW! That is a lot of water. You have a creek there usually right? Has it ever flooded like that? I was amazed on Blackhawk when I could canoe down the road...I dont think they even flooded this storm.
I had a bunch of hail coming down on my car while I was making lunch for a man...then lots of thunder and lightening in another city but not much rain...feeling sorry for those that had stuff float away!

Well I guess I better go on out and lock up my charges! Have a great night everyone! Terri O

Yup, the creek is usually 2-3 feet wide. Except following every substantial rain; then it swells up for a few days. The creek bed winds through a bunch of farmfields before reaching us, all that runoff and no plants to soak it up yet. A quarter mile down the road the water is up over the pavement. Whoops! Three years almost to the day that we moved here, and this is the worst we've seen (talked to a farmer out here today, and she said the same.) BL4, I can just imagine Oshkosh now, fun times.

Rub a dub dub...

Trivia... I've taken to calling the wheaten roosters "dinner" instead of naming them. I have been watching them, and all clean legged ones will be dinner, so why not let them know it?

I have an almost all copper Roo! He is really cool to look at! However, he obviously is not to conformation, so I can't keep him. He will be dinner unless I can get someone to take him. (insert WCC or Mazojoe name here???). I'll have to bore you all with pictures as he grows out.

The Wheatens seem to be happy to be out in the main coop area. When I checked on them I heard this weird noise and it was a big sound. Not really loud necessarily, but a lot of sound. They were all snuggled in a pile, even the big Three, trilling away. I hadn't heard it before! I don't even know how many Wheatens I have anymore (15? 16?), but to hear them all happily Singing away was neat.

Ok... Back to sleep ..... Hopefully

Oh sleep! I was good and didn't ask for the AC for the last few days because I knew it was going to cool off again... haven't done more than dose off for the last couple nights/days... too HOT! The roosters were even crowing all night! I even went and checked on them a couple of times... must just be the heat!

Good Morning Everybody! For the first time in 3 years I'm VERY happy to report no water in the crawlspace!

We might not make it to the bash. Or we might. Have some things going on that would prevent our appearance. Going to be a last minute thing. Looks like rain right now but it's not supposed to till tonight want to get the last 3 loads of wood in and get the forks on the Fiord. Spinach and lettuces are up! Should see some other things this morning!

Good Morning,

The long week continues. On Wednesday Night my DW tripped on a coat hanger someone left on our front lawn. One look at her pinky finger and we were off to the ER. 3 hrs later and we were at home. They gave us a consult to a hand surgeon and the next day she was having emergency surgery to fix a really bad break. 2 pins to hold everything together.

She didn't come out from the surgery too well and we ended up having to admit her for the night. I have not gotten to bed all week before midnight and was in class a half hour away by 8am. I am off to the hospital to visit my honey and then to take my final exam. Hopefully I will pass. Did I mention this is a pass/fail class?

Anyway, still wondering what I should be asking for prices on my 6 month pullets and 6 week chicks when I go to the swap on Saturday, any thoughts?

Thanks for the help,
KEN

Ken... remind me what breed they are again? I have seen anything from $5-20 for purebred birds. mutts $3-10.

We had the babies ( 4-7 weeks) out yesterday with the warm weather and boy did they have fun. Give them some dried mealworms and they never left our side. So sweet. We brought out the 4 we think are maybe girls that we are trying to get so lovey. My dd and ds just love these little guys. Cant wait for summer. Going to see if I can weed this morning without my helpers home. We will see how far I get.

Morning all!
Happy International Respect Your Chicken Day!!!!!!

Ken-I'm sorry to hear that your week has been a bad one! Hugs to your DW and I'll send some prayers and healing thoughts her way. As for the price to ask for the pullets, I'd ask $8-$10 for the point of lay pullets (6 month olds) and $5 for the 6 week old. You can always lower your prices but those point of lay pullets should go like hot cakes. I just sold a bunch if mine at $8 for point of lay and $3-5 for the younger ones. However I gave a good deal to the girl who bought them since she took everything I had.

BBP-Hope the horse works out. Just my 2 cents here, The only suggestion I have is to get a pre purchase exam done. I highly recommend it even if the horse was free. The exam is a good investment to do so your not purchasing a problem. While your horse may seem healthy and fine, the exam in pretty extensive and makes sure that the horse is indeed healthy and that he or she can do what you want to do with him or her. It also gives you an idea of what might wrong with the horse (if there is something wrong) like a lameness for example and that might limit what the horse can do. Then you can determine if you still want the horse. Even at $150, horses are not cheap and you don't want to be getting someone-elses issues and such.

TO-Glad the quail are growing!

Kristi-cute chicks!

Amy-Wow! Are you going to name your new river? LOL! Your pics took me back to when we had a little creek do the same thing back when I lived in Cali. The neighbor behind us lost part of his house and out next door neighbor lost his truck that he parked in his back yard next to the creek. The creek went from 6" in spots to over 20-40 feet across the creek bed in a matter of 6 hours. It was wild! We also had two sink holes form. We lived in a canyon and got stuck for 3 days before they could clear the landslides to get to us.

Well, I can't remember who else said what so I'm going to go hug chickens and feed rabbits!
Later all!

BBP - Good luck on the horse. I would LOVE to be able to get a horse.
Amyable - I can just picture the ducks in their house floating and them thinking "what the heck" lol
BigFam - I named my Rooster like that, we have a Nugget, Sesame, Fried, BBQ, ect lol

Hmm I think that may be it, Sorry if I missed anyone. I'm trying to be better about commenting, it's hard to keep up. I'm not as talkative as alot of your folks lol.

I have busy day today. I have Petit Four batter in the oven, I need to have those done by time DD gets out of school. Then we need to head out to pick up our glasses after DD gets home and we have the textile show for 4H to go to . The petit fours are for the show as a snack. I've got a house to clean and DD conviently forgot to do her kitchen duty last night so I get to do dishes, oh joy. i need to get outside and pick up the yard since DH invited some friends over tomorrow and he wants to go fishing tomorrow during the day as long as it doesn't rain.
We tilled the garden area last night, I decided to go smalled than my original plan since I'm having issues getting my seeds started and staying alive. I've never been taught how to garden so I'm kinda ust winging it and reading stuff online. I did put my potatos in last night. I have 1 tomato plant that I planted in February lol just for fun. Well its now about 3 feet tall and loaded with flowers.
The chicks and ducks seem to be enjoying this warm weather. They are also getting braver and wandering further away. Well my petit four timer is going off. Have a great day.

My husband's grandma was telling me a story about one of her friends when she was a kid. Her friend had the chore of feeding the chickens and gathering the eggs every day. Her friend HATED this chore. After several days of no eggs, her mother peeked in on her to see what she was doing. The girl was standing there, tossing their food out on the ground to them and with every flip of food she was saying "I hate you. I hate you. I hate you." The chore was then given to her brother and egg production resumed.

I suppose they may very well at least grasp the undertone of our words and meanings?
