Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Heather, trust me I have researched these birds, the line these have come from are great layers, Bill gets 4-5 eggs per week he has no reason to bs me on this and the eggs all are a solid 4 or better on the color chart I've had the eggs. That matches any heritage bird that I know of,,,,that said I also know that my BSL's have laid an egg a day since Dec, but I don't expect that kinda production will hold up in future years with them, No reason I can't have both as I build this layer flock,,,isn't that how chicken math works?

Blue pullet, these pics were taken last week when they were 8wks old

My current pick for Blue roo

Birchen roo, the largest of this batch

Black pullets, a "mossy" blue pullet and that same roo

next sunny day I'll get some pics of the "olive eggers"

It's been very interesting seeing how fast these birds develop, I know I still have months to wait for eggs,,,,but still great fun in the mean time

Hi folks,

great day for working here today, cloudy but mid 60's and NO wind,,,,,,,,,spent a couple hours potting up plants. Glad I cut back on maters this year,,,last year over 500 lots of re potting and since my focus isn't selling plants a lot of time spent

some have asked about varieties, mostly heirlooms that I will bring,,,you can google or ask for what these are,,,,lol

Stupice, Black Cherry, Lynwood, Buraker's* Favorite(excellent "pineapple"/yellow fruit, huge as well), Goose Creek, last year I had 25 varities here these are the one's that made the cut for replanting, did well both in the gh and out in the field. I had 100 plants in the gh last year and harvested right at 3,000 lbs of fruit,,,,very happy with that 1st year, I grow in the soil and string to overhead supports.
I should also have some basil and bell pepper plants as well,,,,,these I just started a few days ago,,depends on germination and getting them re potted

chickens are doing fine, had my best day ever selling eggs and now acquired 3 more year around neighborhood customers I need more layers like "right now",,,,just talked to a fellow in the UP has some BSL's and Cuckoo Marans,,,,whatcha think do I need another type of Marans?,,,,,

bbl with pics,,,,dinner needs finishing,,,pulled BBQ pork and sweet potato fries, with a spinach salad,,,nummm
Not sure about the BSL's, have cuckoo marans and they lay fairly well-they are ones that you have to dust regularly for mites-especially if they are fluffy! The 2 breeds that we have that lay very well for us are the Andalusian- with 7 birds we collected 81 eggs and with the 4 Welsummer hens(who were molting) in April we collected 53 eggs. I like the personality of the cuckoo marans myself and they are pretty mellow for the kids to handle. Production breeds will probably outlay the heritage breeds but the production breeds can wear out faster. Good luck!

Well today my sister gave me to Rooster they are so pretty and so friendly. My 1 year old hen tried to kill them she is so mean to new chickens. So I have her in a pen to get used to them maybe she will like them in a few days. If not shes going to have to find a new home or make a good stew for dinner LOL. Any body have any idea to make her nice to all of my chickens? She still beat up on my BO and Blk Star and they are going to be laying any time now. I need to take pictures of the rooster so I can put up on here. Her rooster she hatch herself and they are brothers to each other so they do not fight each other. They follow each other around every where. I wonder what my husband is going to say when he gets home from work.

ChickenLover: Just reading your post with the opposite problem-have a Roo that I love that is becoming a protective beast around his girls :-( And after stories I have heard lately-wondering if he is rehomed if one of my hens will just take up the whole head chicken/crabby/beast role?? LOL Chickens were suppossed to be so EASY!!! :p

Just when I think the rest of my chicks are going to make it, I walk in on an orpington doing the crappy flop. And another bantam cochin is breathing hard and looking deathly. My silkie mix better not die! I will be very unhappy.

Managed to get Fat Cat into the Vet in New London today, my mom and my DD went I participated via telephone.... (now that was interesting....)

Anyway.... all his liver enzymes are up, so we did an X-ray. Liver looks fine on the X-ray, but there is an odd mass that is in the vicinity of the stomach/intestine area that could be: A. blocked bowel; B. infection of some kind; C. tumor. I decided to shoot for option A since that is the easiest fix and if things do not change by Monday we can move on to the next option. Right now he is on an antibiotic and canned cat food, along with something for either his liver function or a laxative. They discussed doing a barium study and I vetoed that one, he looks rough enough already. So they sent him home with 250cc of fluid sub. cut. and his pills. So far he seems to be doing ok, he is still alert and interested in the normal activities of the house, and I did manage to get him to eat about 1/2 of a small can of cat food. Right now he is snoozing on my bed. He is quite jaundiced so it will take a bit for him to start feeling better. If there is no change in liver enzymes Monday, we will discuss doing some sort of biopsy of the mass and his liver to get a better idea of what is going on. My vote? He has some kind of infection from eating something he should not have (this cat had to be cut from chest to bladder to get 2 1/2 feet of thread out of him) and doing the antibiotic and high calorie diet will help him get on the other side and fight it off.

These cats have lived VERY pampered lives inside, they are fed primo food and their biggest concern is when the dog is going to show up and lick them.

That is the news here. BBP, I will take that horse off your hands ANYTIME! What a beauty!!!

I know this is bash talk, but I didn't know if everyone would see it. lol
Hey Jim! you making breakfasts again for the bash??
