Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good sunday morning, I was offline since saturday morning.. technical difficulties with the provider, I guess..
I have 5 pages to read.. so I am going to post first and read later..

We just transferred 4 guineas, and roughly 50 chicks into a TV.. If it stops rainingthis afternoon the chicks in the brooder will go into the breeding pen, and the TV chicks will go into the brooder pens..

Yesterday I took my metal brooder hood all apart and replaced every wire from the microswitch to the supply cord.. This time I soldered everything so there should be no problems with wire separation etc.. I found and old timey soldering Iron in my vast tool collection.. I didn't know if it would work or not. I plugged it in and it heated up nicely.. It has a large working tip on it,, It was used to solder sheet metal seams when my Dad was installing furnaces.. I ground the tip smooth and narrowed it down a bit to accomodate soldering wire.. retinned the tip and it worked just great..

when I rewired the brooder hood, I bypassed the thermostat with the light bulb wires so the light stays on all the time instead of going on and off with the heating element..

I am having a hoot with the one and only call duckling.. He is able to stand upright on his own now.. I love turning him loose on the carpet and watching him scoot.. It is like a wind-up toy..
He doesn't do so well when he gets off the carpet onto the tile floor, though.. He trips on the grout lines.. He is beginning to enjoy being held, too.. Oh Oh, I think we have yet another bird that we won't be able to sell..

Now I will go get some reading done..

mxmarg -- No I wont be at the bash :( we have to much going on with 4-H and don't know if DH will be working OT that weekend.

To everyone who had losses , I'm sorry. It sucks.

BBP - Congrats on the horse, he sure is gorgeous.

Chickenlover- Congrats on the new additon, I hope your hen lightens up and accepts him. I have no advice sorry.

BL4 - sorry to hear about your cat

We went fishing yestarday and only DH caught anything. I really really want to find a decent spot for some crappies, we are long over due for a fish fry. Came home and got ready for some friends to come over for a fire. Well that didnt happen. It started pouring and still hasn't stopped. Luckily I claned house yestarday too so we hung out inside the house. Not much going on here today, just a wet and cold day. I guess I should open the door for the chickens and ducks before they get to mad at me. I can hear Po quacking away.

Jim you are such a softy sometimes....

Rain rain rain rain rain.......... I think all we are going to see today is water. Good day for the ducks!

Squirrel (aka Fatos, Fat Cat, Lardo, etc...) is doing a little bit better today. He ate about another 1/4 of a small can of cat food and then wanted to eat some of the dry stuff. He has been wandering around the house a bit, checking things out but he is still not his usual self (this is the cat that would decide the middle of the kitchen floor would be a good place to lay out while I am cooking; trying to avoid a 20 lb cat is a trick!), but any improvement is good news. Cats with jaundice have weird looking ears.... all that skin that should be pink is yellow, apparently he is not too jaundiced either, the vet said they can get much much worse! His littermate Runt is still taking care of him. Fingers crossed that tomorrow the Vet tells me he just has a major infection and that he is getting better. I do not need the leader of my little pride to disappear quite yet.

I think today I will make more soap. DH made me a few more mold boxes so I can get moving on production. I still need to make some Lavender for the Bash.

Maybe today Taffy has decided to go broody.... she has enough eggs ready to go.... it will be interesting to see what her babies look like (I will be able to tell hers from the other two this way I think).

Enjoy the day, get the water wings out!

Bl4, I hope your Fatty just has an infection, but if he does eat things he shouldn't, it might be a blockage. I sure hope not, though.

Sending best wishes his way.

I wish I knew how these spoiled, well-fed & cared for cats managed to come down with all these crazy ailments. Especially since mine isn't even old. I can understand age-related ailments, or eating something foreign, but how does an 8 year old even get congestive heart failure, anyway?

BBP, sorry you've got more sick chicks. Beautiful horse.

Raim, didn't Jim make pancakes last year?

Cute lil quackers!

Nice chick pics, Unk!

ChickenLover, I agree with everyone who answered you on here already. Your hen is the alpha & is just doing what they do to stay on top of the pecking order. In a few days they will have figured it out and things should calm down. It doesn't make it any easier to watch though, I know.

BTW, if you get rid of her, another one will just take her place & have very similar behavior. That's just how chickens are.

MLH, I learned that CL trick from the master enablers on here, Carol & FT. You're not Miss Innocent in the enabling dept. either, ya know.

Wow, its late! Sweet dreams, all!
i told you the same thing sis, it's always that way when you bring in a new bird- it will be ok honey!!

DONE reading !!! 5 pages turned into 6..

I am up to making pancakes again for the bash.. If it is OK with most people.. Thanks, but I have plenty of eggs.

That is a fine looking horse,, a little riding should get some of that fat worked off of him.. If DS works with him , he will get his trust and not be as jumpy.. Personally I like a horse to be more "aware" of what happens around him..

No one ever answers me on here but you farmgirljd09

Oh I'm familiar with this phenomenon, Chicken Lover (and Farmgirl!!) ! *sigh* it's just the nature of the forum beast I think. It can be challenging to connect with people sometimes! I made a personal connection with a few folks and then we started taking special interest in each other. But until then it can be sort of vacuous. And then everyone else has already formed their personal relationships so you get to read those... but not have any yourself... for a while.

The info may be great but it can be a wee bit of a bummer at the same time! Anyway that was my experience!

Where do you live? Is the bash close enough that you'll be able to come out? So cool that your sis is here too!!!!

Farmgirl you need a profile pic!

Apologies to both you and Chickenlover.... it is hard to 'break in' to the group.... I do not have chickens so I could not help you out myself. I hope both of you are planning on coming to the Bash! Farmgirl I see you are from Fennimore; my DH has relatives all over that part of the state, I bet you know a few of them too. Haas' are everywhere! Ask Big Fam.....

Just get on here more and be a pest... you see how much these people talk!!!! Sometimes you get lost in the shuffle when there are 10 pages of posts to read!

I think everyone will go home from the Bash with laryngitis........
