good sunday morning, I was offline since saturday morning.. technical difficulties with the provider, I guess..
I have 5 pages to read.. so I am going to post first and read later..
We just transferred 4 guineas, and roughly 50 chicks into a TV.. If it stops rainingthis afternoon the chicks in the brooder will go into the breeding pen, and the TV chicks will go into the brooder pens..
Yesterday I took my metal brooder hood all apart and replaced every wire from the microswitch to the supply cord.. This time I soldered everything so there should be no problems with wire separation etc.. I found and old timey soldering Iron in my vast tool collection.. I didn't know if it would work or not. I plugged it in and it heated up nicely.. It has a large working tip on it,, It was used to solder sheet metal seams when my Dad was installing furnaces.. I ground the tip smooth and narrowed it down a bit to accomodate soldering wire.. retinned the tip and it worked just great..
when I rewired the brooder hood, I bypassed the thermostat with the light bulb wires so the light stays on all the time instead of going on and off with the heating element..
I am having a hoot with the one and only call duckling.. He is able to stand upright on his own now.. I love turning him loose on the carpet and watching him scoot.. It is like a wind-up toy..
He doesn't do so well when he gets off the carpet onto the tile floor, though.. He trips on the grout lines.. He is beginning to enjoy being held, too.. Oh Oh, I think we have yet another bird that we won't be able to sell..
Now I will go get some reading done..
