Hi all! Spent the afternoon by my sis's place for a cookout. I am stuffed!
We got home just after 7, the whole drive home we were wondering if we were going to get stuck in a downpour. The sky was so dark. Didn't see any lightning, though. Anyway, some huge drops started falling right as we were getting out of the car, but at least we made it into the house before getting soaked. Then DH went out to lock up the chickens, but the lavs were having no part of an early evening.

At least the worst of the rain didn't hit untill after DH got back inside. Then it got kinda ugly, but the worst is now past us down here.
I hope everyone is home safe and sound.

Not sure if I'll be back on here later tonight or not. I am tired! I could fall asleep right now. So sweet dreams, all!

I just got home from attending the Indy 500....haven't had time to read all of the posts from the long weekend....I hope all is good for everyone.

We left the chicks home alone for 3 days and 2 nights...I was worried that the heat might have been too much...but upon returning all were happy and healthy!

Back to work tomorrow...ugh!

Good evening! I am trying this again...I had all the pics down/up loaded and then they disappeared along with my post...*sigh* So here are the girls and babes that I found yesterday:

This is the buckeye that refused to stop being broody and finally hatched some eggs! I put her in a kennel and just let her out yesterday.

How do you like the "stink eye" on this hen? She has 7 or 8 babies..most of .the green and blue eggs I put under her didnt hatch...mostly her own I think!

Two hens sharing two babies! One big and one little. (but the same age) THese two do this every year...I wish they would hatch a dozen each cause they are very good mothers!

All of these chicks should be from this hen and a Phoenix roo...dont know what happened but there are several different looking ones, including a gold one with feathered legs!

This white hen came out of the barn with 5 white chicks. all during the day I kept hearing peeping ad I ended up giving her another white chick, a chipmunk one and a black! THere are two more hens in the barn sitting on nests (that I know of)

Gineas are still waiting....no where near 276 eggs though!

Two hens from my last year's breeding. They laid for a few months and are now being my hatchers for some PB eggs.

THree more birdies waiting....I really want to run the skid loader through the barn but these birds are STILL in the way! The brown duck in Frankie my star muskovy Mom. She is on her second clutch for this year! THat is Road Runner on the left; she is also on her second clutch!

Do you think anyone really NEEDS this many T-shirts? LOL--I think DH buys them just so he doesnt have to do laundry every week!

SO happy memorial day to all! Our service in the park was really nice. Great speaker that told a heartfelt story about the death of a buddy in the Gulf War. We all walked to the cemetery after for the gun salute. THe bands did a great job. My favorite part is Taps and Echo Taps. The trumpets were awesome!

hi all, Ken, did you read my post to you? I do not believe GQF ever built a bater without a turner..If yours does not,, then I would question if it is in fact a GQF.. I have one here that is over 25 years old.. If yours is newer, it has a turner..

You do not know me as well as some here do.. I will help you all I can, but if you choose to listen to others who might lead you down the wrong path of information, then you no longer need my help..

I do know baters and I do know what I am talking about..

how about posting some pictures of your bater? One of the inside showing the tray holders..and one of the side with the controls for the thermostats..

If you ignore my request for information, then I will understand that you do not need my input.

They are so dang cute. I have two of the six goats that are escape artists. Now talk about naughty. They are rubbing all of the bark off of my crab apple tree and who knows what else. I'm going to have to electrify a fence around my garden to keep the goats and pigs out !! That is of course once I get the horse pasture fence working.
I'm glad you're giving it some more time. Everyone just needs time to adjust sometimes (goats and people)

Hey all caught up again,
I been having a day straight from He!! All Started out good then went down hill fast, woke up to a baby hatched in the bator, my BR/Del cross egg was hatched and 2 more pipped, next time I checked had 2 out and 2 more pipped, well those 2 zipped and hatched in an hour nothing more from the original 2 pips, well by 6 pm still nothing, so I just waited, everyone told me don't open the bator so I waited some more, by 8 oclock I was seriously worried and decided to sneak out the eggs 1 at a time and help them.......TOO LATE.................. both were dead in the shell, don't know why, perfectly normal cute ready to hatch Del babies dead.......... so very upset.................God must hate me for some reason, or he thinks I don't need any Dels, I owe Jim 4 and it seems I am not destined to get them, I have 1 hatched in the bator with my 2 BR/Del crosses and 1 mistake baby from my BSL/Del cross, I thought it was a del egg I guess... so outa 8 eggs I have 4 babies 2 no shows yet and 2 dead Dels......
This afternoon I noticed my only EE hen is looking rather peak ed looking boney like, well I have a feather picker can't figure out who, they been eating me outa house and home and no weight on these girls, not sure whats wrong, eggs have dropped to 4 a day, was getting 10 to 15 a few weeks ago b4 AI started letting them out, they have been free ranging eating bugs whatever but still thin looking and less and less eggs, So thinking I have a stubborn worm problem and worrying all day about what to use and how to use it........ is it the feed/ worms something else, half my girls sit on the roosts to hide from the roosters because they have no feathers and don;t want any part of the roos these days........... not sure exactly whats going on, but any suggestions would surely be great.
How do I catch that dam feather picker.......... I have babies all over the place in my pens can't separate anyone right now, so what to do? Need to butcher that hen whoever she is, I upped there protein last load 3 weeks ago got 200 lbs at Marion, added broiler grower 22% with the layer that is 17% feed I give them eggs, and they eat everything they find in the yard..........????????????? so confused......... never would have ever guessed I would worry so much about my chickens, but this is making me crazy.
In the mean time we finished the garden b4 the storms started, it came down here in sheets 5 minutes and half filled my 10 x10 pen with water, stupid clay under layer, had to go out and punch a buncha holes for it to drain......... argggggggggg what a day I'm exhausted, depressed and just feel like crying................... some days I hate my life....................Kim

Well the chicks decided to make a liar out of me..
I had the Olive Egger chick pip & zip in about 2-3 hours, and another 3 that are pipped very well...
So I think I will have at least 4 hatch!!

I read a little all day so I'm not remembering much

Wow TO!... no wonder you looses chicks now and then.... they're all over!

LOL... how many broodies do you have at once? I wish my guineas would brood... d@mn... I wish I could find the nest! Can't spot a male guarding ... can't find a nest.

Finally got the venison ground I had chucked in the freezer and waiting... used my daughter's electric grinder.... man was that nice...and fast! Sure beats my hand crank one! Came to a nice 10 lbs. of grind. When she came to drop it off she picked up some eggs to sell and then my #2 son came and wiped me out....Now all I need is the money for them! 19 doz. went out the door!

Jasmine still has her 14 chicks! Storkey has been taking her 5 to the roost... kinda' cute and scary watching them find "their" spot. They are getting more independent now too. The Male guineas are acting like they've been here all along.

Isis moved her kittens this morning, took all day to find them... way back in the crawl space!!!

Pulled them out and put them in my closet... she kept trying to move them to the crawl space again but we shut the door to the room to the entrance. She was not happy but put them all back in the closet. Who knows where they will be come morning.

Oh, just got the tail of the storms here....some rain but we need more!

OK.... going to try to sleep.... night all!

Morning All!
So far it's a beautiful day! Stopping in to get caught up then off to feed the critters and clean the brooder.

The fire in that apartment building turned out to be a senior living center. All the people were evacuated and no one was hurt! We had fire crews from all over south central Wisconsin come help out out fire crew. Same with the Ambulances. Our local pharmacy even open up shop so all those displaces people could refill their prescriptions.

Well. off I go! Have a fab day!!

Beautiful morning!

Checked the ducklings foot last night, no where near as swollen as before, the joint is a little bit bigger but he will be ok. I found out that my son only managed to step on him with his big toe, so he can't be too damaged.

I get to go pick up Squirrel's ashes today. The Vet's office called Friday but no one could get there so I get to make the trip today. I hope that is the only downfall of the day!

Better get a move on, going downtown for my joe this morning.
