Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Another Dry day Today here...the weather guys are talking about a record for june with no rain here....not one to be proud of....i'm glad i only grow crops for a few familys and not for profit...I'd be to stressed with these dry conditions. 80 gals of water at a time is enough for me.

Good advice from everyone...yep, i agree with CC on the BA being a pullet...can't see the tail on the pic, and i think the tail can be as revealing as the comb...hatchet...pullet....puffy...cockeral..great advice on the meds....nothing but good smart folks here!

Yep, gonna cut 6 heads of broccoli tomorrow....let the harvest begin. Gonna have fresh with bacon and stuff in a salad to die for.....Is this Heaven?

Wilow is such a cute lil chick!! They are all adorable but shes loud and reminds me of those lil wind up toys that you then touch her butt and she takes off in circles. FYI: I have been using the packing box they came in for these pics-works out nice LOL

Hi all, Checking in early tonight.

Not much to say... we are a day or2 away from an official drought here. Almost makes me glad I never got a garden in.

We got so behind on things then my daughter said he SO (significant other) got carried away with their garden so I'll get some stuff from them.

Man have my eggs dropped! I have 3 broodies, 3 injured, 1 ill and a few hiding eggs on me! I found a couple a places they were laying but after I find a nest... they move it on me!

I did sell 4 teen chicks today ... about a dozen more to go! I need to get brooder boxes done and the new roo pen done soon! The coup needs cleaning too! I'm getting behinder and behinder! Sure wish I could get as much done in one day as some of you... seems even CC can out do me most days.

tiki... people herbs I know but wasn't sure what was safe for chickens... glad you found that! Thanks!

angi... pretty birdies! Willow is cute.

Might be back later... if not... Night!

I'm so glad your hen has perked up, Ang!

Keep an eye on her, though. Hopefully it was just the heat?

I don't know which comb is dominant, but out of Mooses 7 kids, 4 have rose combs (from him) and 3 have their moms single comb.

ETA: if anyone was curious, Moose is a Dominique (rose comb) and the moms are orpingtons and Australorps (both have single combs).
I belive that Rose Comb is dominent to Single combs

BBP: The other interesting development is...the other two LO's: "Bonnie" looks just like PeekaChoo (Normal gorgous Lav Orp coloring) and is the same size as Suzie (her other hatch mate).
However, the other LO with the lemon lacing (same age) Is only about half the size of the other two, and less than half the feathering that they have. I know that usually slower feathering means it may be a male....but males are usually larger than females. Wondering if all 4 are going to be male? :-(

Edit: realized I was expecting people to recognize based on their names and not details LOL hopefully clearer now. Basically 3 chicks hatched same time..one is half the size and half the feathering of the other two. Usually slower feathering means male-but that much smaller?

Angie I am so happy your chook is feeling better!!!

I'll get a pic of our improved fire pit up asap.... too lazy to download the pic off my phone right now.

Better hit the hay so I can be alert tomorrow.

Night all!

That is an interesting feathering to Suzie, Ang. Very cool. And I agree with BBP that her comb looks kinda red. How old is she? I had one of Mooses kids that hatched the same day as the majority but was as small as the 2 that hatched out days later. Turned out she has a vision problem & may have had trouble eating/finding the food. She does fine eating out of the feeders, but don't try to hand feed her. Ouch! She'll get your hand ever time. Or the little one could be a roo. One of my LO roos was a shrimp compared to his 2 brothers.

I'm so glad Hawkeye is feeling better!

And what a cutie Willow is! What breed is she?

Cind, don't feel so bad. I'm a little younger

, don't have breathing issues and have some pretty peppy wheels (scooter). I tell ya, if it wasn't for that scooter, I'd get almost nothing accomplished outside. Plus you have a heck of a lot more critters to take care of than I do. And a son too. We all understand how not as many things get accomplished in a day as we would like.

Tiki, very interesting article about the herbs. Glad you posted it.

So much more but got to get to bed. Didn't sleep well last night & did a ton of stuff outside today because the weather was so nice & cool. It can stay like this, only with more rain, all summer long. The kids are all doing well outside. Jack is the ever diligent father, constantly watching over his brood. I sure hope they are all girls. I have no idea what I am going to do with 3 LO roos. One is crowing more often now. Even worked up the nerve to do it in front of Moose this morning. He has a neat sounding crow, like he's rolling his tongue the whole time. And very bass-y compared to Moose. I just hope they're done growing. They are some big boys. Well, sweet dreams, all!
