Morning everyone!

Ok, please don't hate me

but we got a 1/4" of rain late yesterday and it's about to rain again and we want it to STOP! We have a big picnic tomorrow and the place is turning into a mosquito resort! I have been throwing "barley biscuits" into anything with water in it and hubby has been out mowing and weedwhacking everything that isn't a flower or veggie. The girls are doing their part. They are getting fat munching on the millions of hoppers we have this year. My gardens are all organic so any natural help I can get! We have the 5 year locusts by us and of course the year our gardens are doing the best in ages it's their hatch year, sigh.

Oh well. Everything that eats them is loving it

Weird thing is they seem to be staying around a lot longer this year. Must have to do with all our moisture. (we are over 6" ahead of normal~ducking now!

MLH~thanks for the tip on about the vitamins & E ! I was just going to give electrolytes. How much E do you recommend and just generic bird vits?

good morning

had a cell blow through around 7pm, a major wind gust and 3/4" of rain in 30 minutes, yesterday I had disc the chest high buckwheat in and that opened things up and allowed the wind hit my sweet corn and about 1/3 of it is tipped,,hmmm

glad some of you got some rain, hope these systems keep moving through all day it helps. Just read an interesting post on one if my "farm" message boards, if our Gov chose to he could get WI on the list for funds available from the Feds for "disaster relief" (severe drought in 1/3 of the state) hopefully he finds the time on his speaking schedule to fit that request in,,,,,,,,

just transplanted the last 150 basil plants in the gh,,,,,,, I'll dig the bed I got the garlic harvested and toss in some leafy greens next,,,need to mow but the mower is dead,,,,thinking the prairie look is nice

lost my first bird to a coon Thursday night, ironically DD had named him "Lucky",, got the coon on Friday night (bread TO)
the eye problem persists on the BCM pullet still fluching and using Tryminicin* been a week,,,she acts fine, eats and grazes with the flock,,,suggestions?

Jim dig out one red potato plant if they are blooming you have baby reds to go with those peas

TerriO, do they actually taste the entry ? or just go by the decorations ? otherwise you could decorate a block of styrofoam and save all that baking time and effort..

Cind, that guy was going to butcher them out as soon as he got home.. IMHO they were way too young for fryers yet.. but one of the women that was with him was from the Twin Cities and she was going to take some back with her..

guineas should be butchered young, same as chickens , for roasting.. for soup, we use them even if they are over a year old.. It would help the tenderness if you could pen them up for a few weeks so that they are not all stringy and tough.. as you know, they never stop running.. I also think that a hen tends to be more tender.. same as chickens..

It rained on and off all night here. IDK how much, but at least everything I can see from the window, looks wet.. I am thankful for what I got, however much.. If I sprinkled 24/7 for a week there is no way that I could put down that much water..


ETA: Ken, I like to raise them on meat maker, then finish them with natural grains.. I use ground oats and corn.. I think they put on a nicer layer of fat and taste better..

Dan, I did not plant any "reds".. guess I will have to use the peasant diet ones, russets..

Fellow Wisconsinite here Just thought I'd drop in and say hi. Went outside this morning to find it barely sprinkling, first time anything even resebling rain has showed it's face in I don't know how long. Hoping it keeps up and gets a little heavier

I now am the owner of an Appaloosa. But it's a 2008 Jeep. That's how much rain we just got. Thunder to the south and a real dark cloud to the north. Only put in 15 hills of reds not many blossomed. Dug 10 and got enough for 2 meals for the both of us. Or so i thought. Seems moles like them too. Whew just came back in from a visit with Donny. The man can talk. All you people sick of rain can all face south and blow real hard. Vic I can just see/hear that crabby butt!

Always makes me laugh to hear them growl. It's canning season already have enough cuc's for 2-3 qts of dills. Have em soakin in ice water for this aft. Dan hope your corn straightens up. Gotta go get set up for canning.
