Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Afternoon everyone.

Finally caught up, for the most part.

Update on chicks........... They're hatching like flys !!!! I've got Ameraucana's hatching today. Some of my EE's yesterday and bunch of crosses (that dh wanted) and two paint silkies and about 4 black silkies.

Update on DH ET...... They admitted yesterday. So he is at the hospital in Wausau, 80 miles away !!!
Long story short...... The pulminologist wouldn't do the broncoscopy (sp) because DH's heart rate is to slow. Then another reason they couldn't do it was they did a PPD test last week to test for TB. Injected something under the skin in his arm. He had to go back two days later for them to see if there was a reaction or not. There wasn't BUT the nurse never documented it so it is as if the test was never done. He also had to spit into a cup three days in a row and that was all negative but because they didn't have the PPD test result documented ...................... just another srewup at the clinic.

So........ the good news is that he probably doesn't have lung cancer (although they will not know for sure until they can do the bronc) he does have a lot going on in his lungs and now maybe his heart.
The doc said he could have that chicken fanciers disease which would mean we'd have to get rid of all of our chickens and possibly our parrots BUT with the heart rate going down as low as 25 in the EKG he was thinking he might have something called Cardiac Sarcoid.
Chuck saw a cardiologist yesterday after they did an echogram but he was either a push start or pull start (didn't tell me lol) and he couldn't understand what the guy was saying. The pulminologist was thinking they might want to put in a pacemaker. Guess the doc from India (in case you didn't get the push pull thingy) said he wasn't going to do that) That's all Chuck got out of the conversation.
Guess the ultrasound tech said sounds like he has alot of weird stuff going on.
The Pulm came in this morning and told him there is a posibility that it could be Lymes disease.

He showed us the chest xrays yesterday and the CT scan. Holy cow. Both lungs are covered with nodules !!! He said if that was cancer he wouldn't be alive. Chuck had told me that his doctor told him that there was an inflamation on his lung........ Not the whole frickin thing on both lungs.

So I got home late last night. Poor Butt dog was in the AIR CONDITIONED Car all day yesterday. Yes I left it on HIGH and kept checking on her. When I went out to check on her once the guy driving the shuttle bus stopped and asked if I was going to leave the car running. I said yes. He said someone reported it and that he has been stopping and checking on her. That was so nice. I gave him Chucks name and room number in case the car stopped. She slept all day. Today she will stay home in the hot house with a fan. Speaking of... One of our fans quit today... My best and most powerful one.... Duck !!!

So they might do the bronc today if the pulm has a chance to talk to the cardiologist. Chuck told the Pulm that he couldn't understand a word the Card said. The pulm said "I'd be surprised if you did" !! LOL He must be waiting for a written report. LOL
I'll tell ya, I think the Pulm doc is related to Jim. Sense of humor that you wouldn't believe. Once he found out that the PPD test wasn't documented he said "I'm going to start swearing pretty soon !! " LOL Nice to have a doctor like that to ease the stress.

So of course the ATV ran out of gas last night.......TG I was able to get hay to the horses first.
So, need to get out their and check on everyone and fill up the ATV. Have a feeling just carrying the Gas can to it is going to make me sweat a bit. Hope no neighbors stop, might just be an underwear kid of day. Oh shoot, just remembered the UPS guys is suppose to be stopping.

Not sure what time I'll be going to Wausau today. I would like to be there when they do the bronc but they don't have it scheduled and when/if they do may not get there in time.
DH is feeling fine... but hungry of course cause he can't eat before test. May not go up until tomorrow. ??? We don't know how long he is going to be there so a trip everyday would be to much for me right now. I was falling sleep (or should I say getting real sleeping driving home last night)

Will keep you all posted. Keep your fingers crossed for ET !! Thanks

Another warm one here....looks like you guys to the north of here are gonna get some rain.

Nothing but the Best Wishes for the OM frenchie....that's gotta be a bummer being in the hopital.

Hope you get em Amy....

Nice try TO....I hope you can shoot straight next time....don't forget to aim!

I sure would love some of those buckets Cind....maybe bring some to the bash next year for me. I use to get them from my brother who works at a school...but now everything comes in cardboard boxes with a liner. I bought some from the grocery store bakery, however only really half pails.

Another water run today....don't see any end in sight to watering here soon.

Sounds like more good ammunition bl4....if appleton can have 4 birds, so can wega, eh!

bigz

FT-Hugs to you and ET! I hope they get things all sorted out. Sounds like until all the tests are done and recorded then all the docs involved will know how to proceed. I wish him the best of luck and will say a prayer for him and for you.

CS-I agree with Amy. Your birds should do fine with that sized coop. Mine are in an way bigger area and they made it fine through the winter. Only a few frostbitten combs and only in spots. I *think* I read somewhere that you can use vasaline on the combs and waddles to help prevent frostbite. Or maybe that was vasaline on the waddles to prevent frostbite from when they drink....
The only thing I can think of is ideally your roosts should be flat and not round. Round roosts can help with frostbite as toes are left unprotected as they wrap around the perch. Flat roosts let the birds set in it's feet and their down protects the toes.

Sorry you guys are dealing with coons. Apparently we have them but they all must hang at the dairy. The dairy people feed the barn cats and the coon come to eat the cat food. Either the coons are lazy and fat or they just find it to much work to waddle over to my chicken coop.

Well, best go eat lunch then go to F&F. I ate the last of the Mint Chip Ice cream for lunch but it was just not that filling for some reason....

ok, no one hate me

I'm sittin on my back porch with my laptop

watching the rain and a couple wild turkey momma's and their broods hanging out under a big white pine in the middle of our field. my chicky girls are all nestled down under my little wagon that's loaded with hay parked under the awning over our wellhouse in the garden area, munching on leftover buns from the picnic. Temp was near 80 and sticky this morning but now it's a nice mid 70's and a streight, soft soaking downpour. What a wonderful day to recuperate from all the company for me and all the critters

oooooooooo, now we have a bit of a cloud burst, yeaaa!

sorry, couldn't resist the happy dance.

FT~ sorry to hear about all the troubles. You should be getting rain at the house right now anyway. Sounds like he is in real good hands and you have a dr you can trust. I know how important that can be!

CS~that's why I am trying to add to my coop flock before winter. I am a LOT further north and located in a cold spot in an already cold zone

so my coop is super well insulated and every possible draft point will be plugged by October. I have a big high southern facing window and plan to seal the one facing east. I have a vent in the west wall but can cover it when I need to. I plan to add an extra heat source for the really bad nights. I'm also planning to bury my run as deep as I can in straw so the ground won't freeze and trying to figure out a way to cover at least a portion that can then be removed again in spring.

Ok VIcki!
That is it!!! I'm invading! I want 80* weather....I want baby turkeys to invade my yard.....I want to sit on my porch without dying of heat stroke....I want the pumpkins in my garden to not be all shriveled....I want this Devils Weather to go back to h-e-double hockey sticks where it belongs!!! And I don't mean to our neighbors in Hell Michigan either!! LOL!!

Speaking of gardens, I think I'm going to have to do the majority of it in. Unless we get some rain, I'm not sure how much longer I can justify watering it and wondering if the well will run dry in the process. I think I save the few things that are rather happy like the egg plant, peanuts, sorghum, Peruvian Pop Corm and oddly the water melon. Everything else is going to go. Most everything else is a lost cause.....

If it makes you feel any better, we can't grow things like watermelon, eggplant and peanuts. Normal years our season just isn't long enough or warm enough. Don't think at this point I will mention how well my pumpkins, squash, toms and the rest are going crazy

Hi All, Judge, I have a bunch of Delaware and Barred Rock pullets just about to adult age.. I am 5 miles west of wausau and then 5 miles north..

I made a trip to F&F and picked up a few gallons of hydraulic oil.. I think I am going to drain whatever I can from the reservoir tanks and put the fresh stuff in.. I am putting it off for awhile, because if it doesn't do the trick, I will have to pull the pump off.. not the kind of thing I want to do in this heat..

meanwhile, I am thinking of how I can rig up some sort of brackets on the Farmal A to carry the 55 gal water barrel.. It has no hydraulics.. there might be a trip to the steel yard in the near future, for some tubing .

OR, I might just make a bracket on the trailer ..

Had a nice rain in Wausau when I was there, nothing here at home, though..

Howdy Judge and Welcome to the Cheesies corner of BYC! Depends on what you want and how old. If your looking at hatchery stock try Abendroth's down in waterloo. If your looking for non hatchery stock there are a number of people here who usually have an assortment of chickens at an assortment of ages available. Terri-O (TO or Terri to the group here) has a bunch and then there is jvls1942 (Jim is his name) and he has a bunch of birds too. Then we have...French Toast (FT or Sandi depending on the day) and she is a whiz bang Silkie breeder. Has some terrific stock if your looking for Silkies. WCc (or Carol) may have something too. WCc or Carol has a longer user name but I can never remember it. It's WisconsinChookchick or something like that.
Then there is Hens&Roos. She might have some that she is getting ready to cull out. Her kids show and they cull out those birds that don't make the grade for show. I have 2 from her stock and they are good girls. She is at the fair this week so if you PM she'll answer as quick as she can. I have a few pullets that I'm toying with selling so if you are completely at a loss, PM and we can go from there. They are a Barred Rock and a Buff Orpginton. I'd have to think hard an their age....3 months I think.
What you can do is post the info on what your looking for and I'm certain some one here can help you out. These are uber nice folk. Hope to see you around!

Thank You! I have Red sexlink and Red Production hens and roosters. I thought they were a different breed, bu thanks to some people on here they were able to tell me what the real breed was, lol! The ones I have were born April 1st, and I am still waiting for them to lay eggs. I am looking for females for eggs, but i do not mind the breed. I just need something that gets along well with others :) I was hoping to find someone near me who has some for sale, but I was wondering also if there are places that ship birds? I am so new to chickens any help or info is great
