Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My friend finally stopped by to pick up her hatching eggs! These are the 2nd set of 18 that I saved for her...the others were getting towards a week old so I sold them! They are doing a little experiment for me because I included some white eggs from the Blue Andalusian hen that is bred to the Wheaton Ameraucana...I want to see what the offspring look like and what color egg they will lay!

Both of the ones I got out of that cross are cute as a button!

Also, are your wheaton's blue wheaton's by chance? Because the 4 from them that I got all turned out to be blue/black, unless something went wrong? xD

Well, they are doing a broncoscopy at 8am tomorrow morning. Gonna have to go to bed early so I can get their on time.
They still aren't going to put in a pacemaker. Pulm doc said they know better then him.... so we'll see. I know the cardio guys wanna see what is going on with the lungs first.

Ok, just got done with morning and evening chores. Took so long to do them I just kept going. LOL. Now I look and smell like my pigs !!! Gonna order something to eat them come home and close up, shower up and hit the hay.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. Lub you all !!!!! You to Jim !!! lol

Evening all!!
THIS IS A PUBLIC PEEP ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

So, now that I have your attention, this is the deal. DH has a customer who was a small egg farm farmer. Very small egg farm. He devested himself of his hens and now had feed left over that he wants to get rid of. He as 60 bags of Nutrena Nature Wise layer *pellets*. Possibly crumbles. DH can't remember which one but he can find out. Anyway, the guy would like $10 a bag. He is located in Woodstock Ill. DH is willing to go get it but it has to be for a fair amount of feed. If your interested , PM me and we can talk.
DH says thank you!!

Welcome, judge! I, too, am near Green Bay and have 5 - 6 pullets available, all right at point- of-lay. I have a few Barred Rocks and a few White Chanteclers, all large fowl. Just pm me if you are interested.

Sure am glad to get a relief from this wicked heat. It has been brutal! TO the ducks I got from you are great. I can't believe how fast they grow! I ended up with one male and two females. They were in a pen with my silkies but then the ducks started chasing and pulling feathers from the silkies so I kicked the ducks out into the back yard. Free! Be free! Sure enough, within a couple days.....one duck hen is missing. Vanished. Gone! So now I am nervous about the culprit coming back......and yes absolutely positively if I get the chance the culprit will be stopped forever. Lead poisoning sort of thing.

I keep up with all of you and enjoy all the activity. TO congrats on your fair wins! Everyone take care, find a nice big shade tree and a tall glass of lemonade!!

Hi everyone- I was hoping to get a few more pullets to add to my flock, but i don't know where to get them from. I am near the GreenBay/Appleton area. Any ideas?

Judge! Sounds like you are in my neck of the woods, I'm north of Reedsville by 7 miles. If you don't mind barnyard classics, my friend/neighbor Julie has bunches of chicks her broodies hatched. Lots of different ages. Scovy ducklings too.

FT I will be thinking of you and Chuck and thinking positive thoughts for both of you.

Huh, Gneta, I'm a little tempted by your Chanteclers. Just lost 2 good hens to a pred. Only trouble is my ducks spend their nights in my quarantine pen. Wonder how I can make room.

I need a 'Beware of Guinea' sign! I let the guin and her brood loose in the fenced garden today. After supper I tried to help a couple straggler chicks get out of the dog crate and that crazy hen leaped at my head! Twice! I had to put both arms up to deflect her. Attack guinea! She won't be like this when her chicks grow up will she??

Well, well, we have still have no water! Don't know yet if it's the pressure tank, the pump or the well! If it's either of the last 2... we're screwed! With all the additions on this house, the well and pump (as far as we can tell) are cemented into the washroom floor!

We DON"T have the money for a new well! Nor could we get a loan right now.

DH is going to ask a friend to come see what he thinks.

How could that even be legal? I can't imagine a permit being given to approve something like that? I wish you the best of luck that it isn't something serious. Not the time to be without water.

You're not kidding that Isis(?) is small! But she sure is purdy! And you're lucky about not having the bugs. I guess I need more chickens?

DH had to pick up a bag of Layena too.

My last choice for feed, and the birds feel the same way. They dug it all out of the feeder looking for something good. If you can, try to pick up some vitamins & electrolytes or some probiotics to help your birds with the watery stools in this heat.

FT, I bet the clinic won't screw up double charging you on the bill for having to redo the tests.

I sure hope ET is going to be ok and will be home soon. Best wishes for both of you!

welcome-byc.gif
and to the Cheesehead thread, Judge! Just so you know, adding chickens to your flock will not be "friendly" or "peaceful". Chickens do not like strangers in the form of other chickens. They are going to fight. But before you add new birds, you should quarantine them for 30 days away from your flock in case they are carrying something that they could give to your birds, like MLH said.

Dam, dam, dam!!!!! DH is going down to Woodstock on Thursday, MLH, but he's taking the bike!
barnie.gif
He could pick up a load if he took the truck, but NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
he.gif
I'd be greatly interested in a few bags, by the way, in case you didn't notice.

Gneta! Glad to see you stop in.

Yikes, Amy! I hope you're ok. Baaaad guinea.

Thank goodness the cold front finally moved through! My poor birds have really been looking miserable lately, panting all the time. I have been running ice, water and frozen water bottles out for them every 2 hours, not to mention all the birdbaths and various bowls around the yard for the wildlife. (I interrupted a bunny, a cardinal, some goldfinches and a family of bluebirds on my last trip). The chickens sure perked up in no time as soon as the temperature dropped, though.

The lav roos were wanting to make up for lost time doing the 2 second drill, but Moose was putting a damper on that party.
wink.png
The winds sure picked up like crazy when the front came through. I was hoping none of the dying trees were going to fall over, and luckily they didn't. We had plenty of dark, ominous clouds move in too but as usual, not a drop of rain.
somad.gif
Since it's going to be cooler out tomorrow, I guess I have no excuses not to clean out the coop. Darn. Maybe I should get a dust mask. It is like the dust bowl out in the carport and in the run, and anywhere in the yard, for that matter. Heck, coming up the driveway almost causes whiteout conditions with all the dust. Blow harder, you northerners, please! We so need some of that rain. Sweet dreams, all!

Hi All!

MLH....Cool beans about Ben!.... Spokes models make good money you know! TV and live appearances maybe he could support you!....
lau.gif

Apyl...Locking up all the roos isn't going to stop a hen from going broody and if you don't want chicks just keep taking the eggs. When a hen is broody she will stop laying but the other hens may lay in her nest. If you want to let her "set it out" you can give her fake eggs. Small eggs I think are only the first few times they lay.

TO.... Hope you get that thing/s before it gets any more critters ! Yep, practice! Lots and lots, on moving targets if you can! Couldn't you make some sort of deflector so the air doesn't blow right on you?

FT.... I sure hope DH has good news and it's something they can take care of easily.

Amy... hope the new trap works! That must have been a sight defending yourself from that guinea!

BigZ.... you'll have to remind me closer to the Bash about the buckets! If for some chance your coming to the area let me know too. Maybe we could meet I could get you some.

vicki... I agree with CC....
smack.gif
Why are you guys up nort' so d@mn special?...... send us a care package!!!! All of you ... send us RAIN!

judge..... Welcome! I have some pullets too... Ameraucana and Ameraucana Mix that I'm will to part with a few.... but I live too far away I think. Unless your coming south for something,
hu.gif

Gnet... Hope you get what got your ducks too!

CC... Near as we can tell this house was added onto 4 or more times.... not counting the deck! A good chunk of it we know was without permits! How they got away with it... who knows. We did have the place inspected... but we've learned they often miss stuff.

Yep, the pump is fried

DH is real stressed as to how we'll get it fixed. I don't know how to help either. I would get a job but who's going to hire an almost 60 yr old who can't stand, can't walk too far and can't even sit for 2 hours and has breathing issues?! My app. has been in at Wal-mart for 2 years... and they've cut back on hires too! Nothing worth anything to sell either.
Sh!t! Sh!t! Sh!t! Sh!t! D@mn!.... ok... rant done.... I'll pull up the boot straps! .......Night!

Oh .... you know it's way too hot when a broody is just standing over a clutch of eggs!

Cind, I hope you resolve your pump issues soon...... and don't give up on a job! There is always something out there!

Oldest DD is off to Farm Technology Days with the BF.... DH would like to go tomorrow with his folks.... wish I could go.

Found a home for the ducks! My LOVELY in-laws have agreed to allow us to temporarily house the ducks at their house while we sort this mess out.

I have been in touch with the UW-Extension rep, he was more for pushing for chickens instead of ducks because ducks are 'messy'. I explained to him how I keep my ducks and how non-messy they are.

Ok, off to work. Time to do battle on the highway again.

Everyone enjoy the day! I hope this rain gets to all of you still hoping for a drop!
