Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning Everybody! Cind

If it's a shallow well using all new stuff would only be 3-$400 depending on depth. Deep well should ony be the cost of a pump. That just blows my tiny mind! jim have to agree there's a reason the shaft stripped the splines.

kristip hope that hen perks up! vic put me on that seed list! Dan nice score on the speader! Good idea on the mixing b4 spreading. FT sorry to hear it wasn't better news but like Cinfd said it could be a lot worse! Bigz what can I say you guys eat like kings! Sittin here thinking about supper and cole slaw burgers sound really good. Bl4 sounds like your on the right track. Hope you can get things changed! TO spinach won't grow in the heat, I'm planting more in the fall. Went out picked some cuc's this morning and eyeballed the rest of the stuff. Have enough for maybe 2 qts maybe I'll wait for some more. Getting a little rain hope it turns into a heavy one.

Think it's time for b'fast

Feeling a little helpless today. My poor girls are being terrorized by those nasty roosters. 6 of the 12 chicks I got April 1 were boys. They seem to form a pack of 3-4 at a time and then go after them. I know they are young, but I plan to butcher them as soon as possible. Maybe Monday or Tuesday. I don't have anywhere to go with them until then, so I guess the girls will have to do their best until I can take care of it

The new chickens I got Wed. have started laying! Two eggs yesterday and one the day before. Too bad our 3yr old thought that first egg belonged to him. My daughter came running to tell me the egg was gone, and I found our little man in the toy room with a play spatula and a little frying pan

Oh well- two left, and I'm excited to cook them. We have never had eggs that weren't bought at the store before. Hope you all have a great day!

Oh so many things...

Vic-I'll take a cutting on that sausage plant instead of seeds please.

Judge- I got 10 chicks and 7 were roos. I also culled early, but they were still delicious!

Cind-I agree with HaHa on the well repair cost.

Unkadan...smell the manure, hahahahahahaha! Love that one Vic

Amy & Bigz- great idea to train anyone interested in proper handling & use techniques. My dad taught me growing up and even though he doesn't hunt anymore, we still go skeet shooting together!

I'm gonna have an egg-dinner today I think! Thank you Stella for your eggs!

TerriO, she is a 2-3 year old BO. Still listless, big pupils, floppy pale comb. Seems wobbly moving around. But is eating a little, drinking a little and pooping. We will see. We live for the Happiest Place on Earth ( with 2 six year olds, so that is debatable) in a few days. Hoping she perks up so she is not a problem for the chicken sitter...

on a side note, my little clean legged, frizzle cochin has gone broody. sigh... dont want her to overheat while I am gone... silly bird. She is small so keeps trying to shove them all under her and she looks goofy. oh well.
On the other side of the coop, my last broody has given up her chicks officially. She went up to roost tonight rather than sit on coop floor with her 2 chicks. They were peeping like mad at her. Did not like that one bit.
Hey Wait a Minute.. I'm the chicken sitter... gee nice to tell me.. LOL.. no I now what is going on. Let me know if you need me to pick her up earlier than when you leave.
If Frost the frizzle needs some eggs, stick a silkie egg under her, and I can give you one of my jaerhon eggs for her to set on. I get the chick back though..;. this time.. LOL

FT- I am so glad that you and Chuck found this doctor!!

Gots to go, gotta feed the flock and the horses. then off to work.

FT I am glad that you are getting some answers and able to get some meds to help. And that you do not have to wait a month to go back.

good aft, I spent a long time working onthe tractor.. It is HOT out there.. I had to take all of the "tin" loose just to get at the four bolts on the front of the crank shaft.. believe me when I say I am going to replace many screws with hex head bolts when I put things back together.. who was the mental giant who thought that screws are the way to fasten metal shrouds to a tractor ?? Idiot !!

my bees are still under the dash.. they are keeping me company, but they haven't felt like stinging me , yet..

this must be the season for hatching.. I have about 22 keets in the TV.. then Annie brought a white keet in from the coop where the goose is sitting on about 20 guinea eggs.. then she brings in a chick that one of the chickens hatched.. a pied peacock.. It is in the bator drying off right now..

the 2 pairs of cockatiels have 6 babies between them.. they have to be the ugliest babies in the whole animal kingdom..

I am fighting a nap.. maybe I should just give up and take a short one , and go back at the tractor when it cools off a bit outside..

Dan and DrH, the splines take all the revving of the motor and the sudden stops and jarring .
they just fatigue, It is not the best system for hydraulics, but it is the best one can do for this kind of tractor.. I am just glad that the fitting connector was softer than the pump shaft.. I maybe should drill a hole through the connector and the shaft and put a pin through for added strength..

My husband and son are in Colorado and they were at that very theater the night before the shooting! It's nice not having the guys here. I think I've spent about $30 this week on food for us girls.

Well I did it. My dad came over and showed me how and we butchered 5 of the 6 roosters. I felt a little bad since we had them since they were chicks. My 8yr son was very upset, but my 9yrold and 3yr old sons and 5yr old daughter were right there helping. Had to laugh when she asked me "So chicken legs really come from chickens' legs?" Glad I can help them learn where food comes from. I have 2 in the oven for supper. New experience for us, and I know my 8yr old will NOT be eating chicken tonight

Everyone seems much more relaxed in the coop now. Gretchen our chanticleer was soooo noisy for like 30min. Went out again to check and she had laid an egg! I thought they laid them at the same time everyday so I was suprised to find one at this time of the day. Our other chanticleer Taylor is laying now too at least I think? The other egg that we are getting each day is much smaller, and a lot paler. Is every egg different even in the same breed?
Interesting day today, and I can't wait to have a glass of wine and relax after all the kiddos go to bed.
Have a great night everyone!

Evening All...good to hear you have a handle on chuck's problems frenchie....hope he is back in the saddle soon.

Suzie picked a half 5 gal pail of green beans today....slenderette variety from sandhill....been our favorite for the last 10 years. We had green beans with a big chunk of ham and some potatoes....the broth was delish, and I'm full.

Yep usually a little variety in the brown eggs of the same breed Judge. Don't know about white egg layers though...never had any of those.

Does sound like alot for the pump Cind...hate to pay more than a fair price.

Picked up some tires for my daughter at the junk yard. set of 4 with half the tread left for $80. She will be happy to have different tires for her pile of cr@p at a reasonable price.

Nice handgun works with short arms Cind.
