Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning all...just a quick note...DH sent me a text this morning saying "I found a ticket walking on me this morning." Was good to start the day with a chuckle!
THe babies are starting to lay here...got a quail sized chicken egg in the box today! So adorable--wondering if it has any yolk at all? In other egg news, I am setting quail eggs tonight. THe adults are starting to look old so I think I will butcher them all after I hatch babies--the one that I did eat was mighty tasty for sure!
Sounds like you have a raccoon battle coming Cind! I feel sorry for you--I hope your pens are up to it! I though DrH's post was odd too...wonder what he was drinking? LOL!

Jim I so wish we had blackberries here...my only plant is just that again this year...no berries at all! The red raspberries did OK cause they arent in full sun. I at least got a handful...the patch is only 3 years old so not producing much yet...also the goats or the beetles at most of the leaves. Maybe next year will be better?

Well, I better get off to work...long day again. Thinking about riding this week though...if the mornings continue to be cool!
Later--Terri O

Good Morning all

Got your message this morning WCC. Thanks everyone for asking how DH ET is doing.

Sorry I haven't posted earlier........ my dang internet service sucks these days. Had a long post typed last week, went to send it and my service was down........ Thought it would have saved it but no....... To tired to retype I guess.

Anyway, last Monday he went for an MRI of his heart. I politly asked if we could see the doctor Monday instead of driving all the way back on Tues morning for a 7:40am appt,

Well, we didn't get to see the doctor but we saw a PA. She was ok, she did leave the room to go and call the doctor and checked a few times to see if the MRI results were in.
When they came in it was good news. Other then seeing the low heart rate they didn't see any lesions which would indicate the Sarcoidosis on his heart. Without doing a biopsy they don't know for sure but doesn't seem to be.

They called the Pulm doc and called in a RX for Prednisone. 40mg a day.
He went for a Stress test on Thursday. The nurse tried calling us on Friday but due to my sucky cel service too I didn't get the message until after 5pm. Wondered all weekend what they found.
Called the nurse back today and she was calling to tell us that the results were good !!!
He has to go back on Sept 13th to the heart doc to evaluate the monitor he is wearing for 3 weeks.
I still need to call the pulm doc and get a 3 month rx for the prednisone. He is feeling fine. Tired but with a slow heart beat I guess that would happen. Still laid off. He did go to work today to work on our Pontoon trailer (no we still haven't used the boat !!! Argghhh)

We went to Crandon yesterday to get his "chew" so of course I got Ice Cream (we have a deal when he quits chewing I'll quit ice cream) On our way home we say a sign that there was a horse show at the fair grounds. Drove in and watched from the truck while I ate my ice cream.
Barrel racing and pole bending. One girl fell off. Pretty scary for sure. No helmet either.
I never watched this before. I was quite surprised how antsy these horses are !!! Reminded me of race horses at the starting gate !!! lol
Ok, gotta drink up my coffee before it gets cold. A fly landed in my first cup !!! YUK !!! Dang flys .... go back to Jims house !! lol

Decided to take a few pics when I let the birds out of the coop this morning.

The goslings decided to follow me into the chicken coop this morning when I went to feed and eat their food

Don't mind the mess. Have some straw coming in within the next couple days.

My 2 week old chicks after they tipped their food dish over.

We might have found a house that fits our school district needs and land/zoning requirements. It says that it is zoned for horses and livestock (but I will verify all of that with 100% accuracy). It also has living quarters for my dad when he moves in with us. I called to make an appt to see it somewhere in the next couple of days. Please pray that all turns out well.

I have never bought a house or been involved in the process, I can only envision that it will be time consuming and frustrating, but I hope that my neighbors don't realize where all of the racket is coming from (at our current house) prior to us finding a new house. I would love to talk about my numerous chickens and goats (maybe horses if my oldest DD is lucky) and my awesome harvest of garden deliciousness, like a lot of you.

I'll keep you all updated.....

Garden is currently in limbo. The zucchini & yellow squash are not productive at all, the tomatoes are green (but growing), the squash is still taking over the entire garden and attempting to climb up the fence, the tomatillos and blackberries are all turning ripe, and the green beans are still coming on. Like most of you, my garden has been invaded by beetles. They have eaten most of the raspberry leaves and are onto the green beans. Its just not been a great year for spring and summer produce in my garden.

Eldest DD has poison ivy all over her face, arms, etc. But she wanted to go off to band camp today. I expect to receive a call to pick her up once the itching starts. I did send her with Zytek and caladryl.

Thanks everyone for being an ear, sounding board, and offering advice.

Ick! CS, I have been in your DD's shoes! The absolute BEST treatment for me was going an getting Prednisone for the allergic reaction. Cleared up the rash in 3 days. Good luck on your house hunting!!!!!!!!!!!

Taking the oldest DD to the dentist to have her first tooth drilling experience... she is nervous about it. I can't wait to see her with rubber lips and be unable to talk!

Hi all,

Thanks for all the info on this board. It is helping immensley with out hens. I just wanted to state that if anyone needs a beautiful Wynadotte rooster named Brownie we have one in the madison area. We havent had any complaints yet from the neighbors but we can't take the chance. send me a pm or something if anyone is interested. We want him to go to a good home that he will live a full life at. Sigh.. I hate to see him go...

CS~definitely put you on the prayer list! the house sounds perfect!!! What is really needed when buying is patience and SERIOUS attention to detail! Don't be afraid to question now so there are no surprises later

My poor broody butt is still broody. I kick her outside for at least an hour or so every day, problem is she is such a crank the rest of the little flock is beginning to reject her and she gets picked on whenever she attempts to join them feeding, etc. so I give her her extra protein "treats" when they aren't looking or they take them away. Her fluffed up, growly attitude certainly isn't helping things any. How long do they usually brood? 21 days, right? I should have kept track but I really believe she is past that! At this rate she aught to stop brooding just in time to molt!

X2!!!

I just let the hens be broody...they come out of it on their own Vicki. And yes it is entirely possible that she will stay broody until the molt! You can either give her nothing to sit on or let her have fake eggs or golfballs and she MIGHT get up after 3 weeks. Just keep your eggs picked up so she doesnt have anyplace to sit with them. Oh yeah, you dont have roos right? Then I guess it really doesnt matter...I would just stop messing with her. SHe'll get off when she is hungry or thirsty all by herself.

Good luck on the house CS! I just remember house buying making my hand some because of all the signatures needed!

Just got a call from my earlier client and her DH is not going to go with them to dinner tonight. I am going to go and sit with him. Thought I would have an evening home but--oh well. DH is going on the train to North Dakota tonight and coming home on Thursday or Friday. That day is also his party at the State Fair so it will be fun to go there again. I am amazed at how much stuff costs at that fair! I thought Jefferson was unreasonable this year!

Guess I am going to close my eyes for a little bit...then back to work! Later! Terri O
