Was amazed only 6 pages! Vic we LOVED the cool weather up Nort! Then got up this morning and you could cut the humdity with a knife. Couldn't get the mower started, I flooded it and think the plug is Kaput. Was going to mow the neighbors yard then fish for a bit and come home. Got sweaty and mad, packed it up and came home. Saw the weather map and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Rain coming! All the corn we saw looked like sorgum until we got to around Mosinee. Pretty sad. Jim 55lbs of berries!

Seems almost a shame to use them for wine, almost. Ours are all burnt up but did get to sample a few up Nort. I hope I never have to take the loader off my Fiord, looks like a real task! BL4 THAT ain't nuthin! I was in an air defense platoon and once while in Co. they arranged for us to practice on a fighter jet. We normally shot down drones. It was an F-100 and we were set up on the edge of a canyon. That pilot had a ball! He'd fly up the canyon and when he got to the end he'd kick in the afterburner and fly up the wall right over us. You could see him grinin his A off! When he went over us I'd guess at about 75' you could count the rivets in the bottom of the plane. The antenae on the jeep would whip 90*. Cind sorry to hear about your NHR! Bigz peppers in the relish. Hmmm. Post your recipe please. TO oddstuff in my canner? Casie cute pic of the DD and her new friend! BBp what a good boy! tiki ivy doesn't bother me or oak or sumac but young juniper does. Like pouring gas in an open wound. DAS neat pic too! MLH we've got a digital antenae at the camper 17 channels. BFF is here with the card out of his trail cam. bbl.

Afternoon all! What a nice day for a horseshow! DD20 got a first in Dressage and took first in the Mini-event! Moon was such a good boy. We got back here just after one and I got so tired reading on here that I took a little nap. I am not too used to getting up at 5; I havent been hunting the fox since I got out of the habit when it started to rain. So I was pooped.
THen I played witht he dog and then I took a look at some of my chicks in the tv. (that need to be moved) and saw one that is turning it's leg out a bit at the hip area. Did some reading...now I am tired again!

I wanted to go out for a ride but might just hang here...maybe take another nap? LOL! IT was sprinkling a very little bit while I was out with the dog. I was glad I got the laundry down as soon as we got home. THe neighbor stopped by and told us about out other neighbor that went to the hospital last night with another broken hip! She is 90 years young (tough old broad) and lives alone. Her daughter couldnt get in touch with her and I guess she was on the floor for a few days! Sure wish she would let someone check up on her! This is the same neighbor that 2 winters ago she laid in her driveway until a passerby saw her there! Like for 6 hours! Did I say she was tough?

So anyhow, hoping everyone is having a nice weekend...sure wish I had a speck of energy...I cant even remember what I was going to comment on...oh yeah, we always liked to hear the owls "talking" too Vicki; unless they are talking about eating my guineas that is!

Later--Terri O

Afternoon All... what the heck...I was hoping you could do some serious fishin Doc!

Picked another 10lbs of maters today....lookin like we will be makin something soon, prolly salsa.

Good article in the new Backyard Chicken Mag about urban chickens. Sounds like you have it all covered already BL4.

We still have free TV MLH. I get 24 clear channels...the antenna pays for itself the first month and has a power turner in the same cable that you run to the TV...suzies cousin saw ours and dumped his dish like now. Here is the web...www.lavasat.com we bought the HD-2605 remote controlled HDTV antenna...around $60

Here is the relish recipe that we have used for 40 years....

12 big cucumbers
6 small onions
2 stalks of celery
1 large green pepper or red pepper (makes it prettier)

Use a hand meat grinder, and have everything cut in chunks to fit and grind. I always take the celery and break it to get the strings off or it will clog the grinder and I do not peel the cukes, just cut the ends off.
Put in a bowl and take 2 good fistfuls of canning salt across the top and stir well.
Cover with a plate and let sit over night.
Then drain very well in a wire mesh colonder... for me it usually takes a half day or I help it along by pressing with a spoon.

Then mix in a kettle...I use a stainless one
2 cups white vinegar
4 cups sugar
1 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. tumeric

Bring brine to a boil and add pickle mixture. Boil for 10 minutes and put in pint jars seal and process in boiling water bath for 10 minutes.

yeild 4 pints or little more....

Like I said before about my hens, I can't believe most are winding down from their molt already, usually it hasen't even started yet.....been a crazy year.....off to the eye Doc in the Mornin. Sure hope he can make the right eye better.

Have Fun...you know this is as good as it gets!

Had 5 different bucks on the trail cam, ones a 10ptr with a wide rack. Have seen those genes before and a couple of pics with mama and her fawn. Was glad to see it's made it so far. Spots are gone. Donny stopped over to make sure Bob was around it seems he got out on him this morning [big surprise]. MLH Bob is an old BTB. BFF jumped him about eating think Donny's lost about 25 lbs from a 125 frame. His court date for the big D is next Fri. He's not eating. I've told him to come for supper several times but he blows me off. He'd have to pick through our suppers he won't eat any veggies other than potatoes. He's missing sooo much! Maybe will make something for him and his livin son and drop it off. He won't let it go to waste. L and I were just talking thinkin of things they would eat. So far lasagna and meatloaf, man it's gonna be hard to cook without veggies. He won't even eat onions! TO wasn't surprised at your up at 5 comments I do it every day except for yesterday and today. Got up at 6:30 yesterday AND 7:30 today! Man I can sleep up Nort! It was wonderful! It's the air and lack of responsibility I think. CONGRATS to DD 20 on a great job! I know there was a whole lot more but now it's gone. Making 6-7 more quarts of dills tommorow, knew the homecoming would bring those.

Amazing how fast they can grow. Could make B+B's out of some but have dill open in the fridge. Bigz just saw your post but have to read it yet. I got the nickle L didn't have any bites and I only had 2 but the one I connected on was a 15 1/4 walleye. Gave it to a really nice young man that was fishing. If I would have gotten one more he would have been eating hot dogs for supper.

good aft, going to light the grill soon.. hamburgers with fresh cukes in vinegar and mayonaise ..You can sure tell a fresh cuke from one of those store bought rubber ones..

bro came out and helped me finish taking the loader off the tractor.. we had a few glitches, but when it finally came off it came off real smooth..

sort of weird to not have the 2 puppies swarming over me every time i go outside..

egg production went down to 14 from 19.. so I guess we picked a few good layers for the lady yesterday..

hey you wine makers.. does the yeast have much to do with the flavor of the wine ? I have almost always used Montrochet.. I would like to use something else for the blackberry wine.. I have two 5 gallon batches started.. Annie has enough berries picked for two more batches..

Yeah DrH.. I suggested that we make some jelly. but Annie says we still have 19 pints left from the last time..
Annie estimates that there are about 1000 pounds of berries to pick.. there have been about 200 pounds picked already, and it hardly even shows..

I tried something new this time.. I used a juicer .. It handled the blackberries like a charm.. I could do 4 ice cream bucketfuls without having to clean it out.. 4 buckets is what we use per batch of wine..

I put the seeds into a stock pot and figured I would "squeeze" a few more drops of juice from them.. after one day, I strained the seeds out.. the resulting liquid was all cloudy.. I figured for the few drops I would gain, it was not worth the hassle of straining and using that cloudy mixture.. It would take forever to clear,, and might impart a bad taste to the wine.. I tossed the seeds to the flock..

My quail hatched around June 12 and I got my first 5 eggs this weekend from what I believe is 3 hens and a cock. A friend of mine order 100 quail eggs from some place that is suppose to have the largest quail for meat. I will get the cabinet out tomorrow after work and get it fired up. It should be exiting around here in about 3 weeks!

Hi all! At least those that show

Less than 2 pages worth? CC didn't even make much of a "comment"! LOL And I think Casie beat her to what she did post.

DrH... Sounded like you get the sleep out your head yet or you were nipping a bit early!

Didn't quit get what up in you 2nd post
hu.gif
Maybe it was me..

vicki...sometimes it's hard to decide what critters are good to have around and what are nuisances! Deer are pretty (and tasty), but if they're in your garden they seem more tasty than pretty! Crows can case off a hawk but if they eat your garden or chase away other birds you want... well, you see my point. (I hope) Love to watch the chickens when one has something "special" and the others give chase!
lau.gif
Last year one of mine got about a 2 1/2 ft. snake ... that was such a riot watching one run with this ribbon of snake trailing behind and about 15 others in hot pursuit!

Jim... your about to make me cry hearing about all those berries! I got about a cup
hit.gif
I MIGHT get 1 or 2 more... if I can beat off the birds and bugs! No Black or red raspberries at all this year... all dried up!

MJoe... congrats on the new eggs coming!

Hummm.... wish FT would let us know if they heard anything
hmm.png
weekend... maybe no news.a
No yotes tonight but heard a family of coons next to the coop!
barnie.gif
The dog and I have been checking often tonight, I think they moved on but....better to be safe!
No more keets hatched... 2 that I thought piped turned out to be poop! (on the egg) LOL That's what I get for not looking with my glasses! Anyway, got 5 keets. Chickens will be happy (I hope) I cleaned out the fridge freezer They'll even get to split 2 hamburgers and 2 pieces of fish! There's a bunch of other little bits of odds 'n ends they're getting too! I'll mix it all in with their morning mash. Bet they make happy plates!
wink.png

Guess that's it... Night all!

Jim, I have always used the Montrachet for dark (red) wine...it's what I use for blackberries, cherries, etc. For light wine I use Lalvin EC-1118...like for dandelion or melon. I've also used the Montrachet for mead/melomel with good results. One time I used bread yeast in a mead...it took a loooong time to mature but boy was it good!
If you use something other than Montrachet for the berries please let me know how it turns out.

Unkadan, thanks for that link. I looked it over some yesterday and I'm guessing it's early blight due to the high temps and rain we've had. I'll be pulling and burning plants today. Sooo sad!

good AM, I got an early start today.. all cuppa'd up already.. the day is starting off well, I just killed a pesky fly.. life is good..

I am going to use up whatever Montrachet yeast I have,, (3 batches) and then I will try a different yeast for the next three batches..I did not get around to making any rhubarb wine this year.. too lazy, I guess..

I talked Annie into letting me make at least one batch of Black Berry jelly.. she is out there picking some more berries right now..

I ate the last piece of raspberry pie of the season last night.. unless we get a fall crop.. I hope, I hope..

today I will be washing the 5 gallon carboys .. I do it outside.. I pour in a few cups of mason sand and add just enough water to make a slurry.. then I roll the jug back and forth to scour the inside .. sometimes I use those steel beads that Annie uses for making pie crusts..

I have another pesky fly.. can't take the harrassment, bbl,,,,,,,,,,jiminwisc..........
