Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Nice Evening All... we dug the rest of the spuds today. The lack of rain this season had a affect on the yeild this year. Last year our yield was over 6 bushels for 6 rows...this year the yield was 2 bushels for 6 rows...still a good amount for the lack of rain. We rotate our crops, and the result was surely a lack of rain...still worth the effort.

Picked up the bow deer license today....only a buck with the bow and a buck with the gun for my Wisconsin slam to be complete....I love the outdoors!

The molt is really hard here this year...I clean up feathers daily and only collected one blue egg today. Five eggs yesterday, but a doz a day is gonna be in the future months I'm thinkin. The extra feathers are best picked up, rather than feed feather mites and get them started. I'm thinkin a good clean environment is like nipping it in the bud...lb of prevention is worth a ton of cure.

How about Chickens In Charge....you go Angie what ever name you decide..good luck.

The freedom ranger my daughter wouldn't let me butcher layed a huge brown egg today. It will be interesting to see how often she lays and if they stay that big. Her boyfriend is my bantam Cochin roo. She even started sleeping in his coop at night. Lol!

Awww BBP Will they live at least a few yrs? Also suppossed to ask if DH got his elk?

BigZio-like the suggestion-thinking next week. Funny-work in a male dominent enviroment and my old group-all major FB fantics I know virtually nothing yet came in 1st place 4 yrs in a row and 2nd once....they hated it!!! I used yahoo stats and think they choose to much based on bias and emotion-was pretty amusing. This is my first year a place opened up on the family team-and they all take it pretty serious so crossing my fingers here! (plus this one has $ not just braggin rights)

Back from the meeting; I knew it would not go our way but at least people are going to talk now. One of the main people against us has now decided we should all behave like good neighbors and discuss things.....

I'll let BigFam do the commentary on that one.

Anyway, we have all decided we are NOT giving up and we need to EDUCATE EDUCATE EDUCATE! We have extended invitations to the council members to attend the Urban Chicken seminar, I hope we have a packed house! If it becomes too much of a crowd we can always use the theater.

Thanks everyone for all of your support, I appreciate all of your kind words. I will keep you all posted with our activities.

I hope I have brought a few more newbies to the group! You might be seeing a few new faces from the central portion of the state!

Hi all

I am new to byc I do not have any questions for the group, but I do enjoy reading along and i do enjoy my chickens a great deal..

I am from extremely southern WI. I can see Illinois from my back yard.

TO judging from the chickens running around here that I got from your place, I am guessing wyondotte maybe silver or some Andelusian, on that rooster pic. Handsome Roo!!

Quick post now that I am caught up...lots to read!

BILs=brother-in-laws

So I got woken up by my phone ringing at 5 am today...thought it was a client, it was the sheriff's office! A passerby noticed horses on my road. Got up...long story short we got then caught and back in and no one was hurt. Thye are full of burrs but otherwise OK. I was supposed to go to Palmyra for the day and ended up building fencing from 10-6:45! My riding friend came to help so DH and I took her to dinner. I just have to hook up the electrical tomorrow and they can go back out there. Now if the dam^ deer stay out of my pasture!!!! I am so tired of them breaking down my fence!

Off to bed now...I cant remember any more to comment on except that I hope the dat's claw works on your hen MXM!
Nighties...gotta get up at 6 tomorrow tp get to work on time!

@ BIL LOL I was trying so hard to come up with a chicken acronym that BIL could stand for-embarrassed!

BabyLady: Glad to hear there were some lively discussions lol and crossing my fingers for a packed house for the education session.

DrH... I know, you were waiting for my cat to have her kittens!

CC... are you trying to freak out those poor chickens? "Oh NO! The door is opening and noone is here!"

Cind, good one! Yes, I think DrH would just love to give one of your newest to-be kittens a home.

Yeah, I sure wish one of the cameras would have been pointing at the flock when the door opened. That would have been a sight indeed.

This morning the lav roos had no problem finding the open door. DH had the window open on that side of the house so they let me know quite clearly that it was time to get up.

Great info you gave Marg. I hope something helps her. Poor bird.
Terri, that is a really pretty roo. No clue on his parentage, though.

So sorry about your pullet. Jerks! Sorry you had to miss your ride to fix fencing, but I'm glad your horses are all ok.

Raim, way to go on the continued weight loss! You go, girl!

I hope your DH can fix your washer & release your opossum for you.

Ah, BigEars, I mean fam..... Are you trying to impress us with the fact that your vocabulary stretches beyond the 4 letter kind?

Bl4, sorry things didn't go better at the meeting. Glad to hear you're not giving up.

and the Cheesehead thread, JustJohn! Hope you like it here.

Not much chickie door drama today. Everyone used it to come outside, eventually......

I've had a hawk buzzing the yard the last few days so I left the big door open today. By the time I got there to lock them up, everyone was already inside. Oh well. There is always tomorrow. Oh, and when DH came home at 10pm tonight, he said a huge bird of some sort flew from one side of our tree line to the other. I did not need to hear that.

Sweet dreams, all!
