Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Great lovely morning to all! (at least down here it is nice/not cold!) Yes AngieB it is the Ivomec that you use that way. Supposed to be pretty good too. They do caution that if this is your first worming to use Wazine first to paralyze the first wave of the worms so you dont get too many dead in the system at a time. THat is for a heavy worm load though; I dont know how old your birds are....

My birds are all molting right now...I think it is coming to a close finally. I had to laugh when you said you pick up the feathers BigZ! I would be out there all day! It actually looks like it snowed feathers here.
Judge--both of my banty roos are in with the big girls in a pen. They really dont bother each other at all.
I am sorry about Shandy MXM! I know how much you worried and tried with her...If you need a replacement I have some...and I think Cheryl also said she has her sister. Cant let any opportunity for chicken enablement to slip past!
Dan you are a funny guy...and I might add that your mind is like a steel trap! I find it so hard to believe that you can catch those coons with bread of all things! That is amazing...I am sure I would only catch skunks...LOL! There was something else that I wanted to comment on (that you said) but cant remember now...all the people are waking up and talking to me. DD is home with her BF from college. I thought we were all going to a wedding together today but now I have been informed that the men and DD and her BF are going to the Badger game. Guess it's just me and DD26...now if I can find where it is!

Well, I better get moving here...have a fantastic day! Terri O

See you soon BL4!! Well, I am back and cannot catch up on all the posts so jumping ahead to today. Let me know if I missed anything crucial.

Had a really fun time down in Indy with the hubs. We were at a...........................................brace yourselves.............................Halloween mask/horror industry convention! Yes, I married Mr. Halloween. I met lots of cool people, and some celebs too! I am going to inundate you all with pics, because I also dug the potato experiment last night.

This is DH in (screen-accurate, of course) costume with JD Feigelson, the writer of the movie Dark Night of the Scrarecrow. He is the sweetest ol' guy!

DH with Peter Kent, Arnold Schwartenegger's stunt double.

And us with actress Linda Hamilton. She is uber nice! She was hugging and kissing all the fans, lol!

Hi all!
Just got caught up from yesterday. Not much going on here, Got the critters all cared for and went to the dump. Other then that, just enjoying a beautiful day! Clad the heat is almost gone!
The big project for this weekend is to clean the coop and get the rabbits all fixed up in there spots. I need to go to F&F to get another leg/stand set up for Dimitri's winter cage. Then the bucks are all set. The Girls are hilarious. They sure like having eachothers company!
Elvis seemed happier this morning. He is definately in a hard molt.

Well, that's about all my news. Rather boring actually.... Oh the big excitement was that I lost my extra set of truck keys when we went to the dump. But we went back and my wonderful DH found them in no time. It would cost me about $80 bucks and a whole lot of aggrivation to replace them since they have that little chip thing that let s the engine start.

Well, best get lunch and get to more chores!
Later!

MLH glad your DH found your keys but it has me stymied as to how you got the truck started to come home? Must be new a fangled thingy. Chili is cooking and will taste test it this aft a couple of times to adjust it properly. Have chicken broth with meat, veggie beef soup, and now chili for the winter. Was just thinking of some beef barley but maybe I'll hold off for something to do in the dead of winter. I was just outside and one of the australorpe hens came up to me and recieved her new name. Lard A@@ MAN she's wide!

Babykins is now officially the biggest roo of the three. Right now he's laying down like he's getting a tan, what a freak! Nice day for enjoying the chickens!

Time for potato pics:

Yukon Gold - 1 or 2 plants, can't recall - 1.5lbs

Kennebec (I think. Got it from the nursery) - 2 plants - 4.5lbs

All Blue - 2 plants - 3lbs

Uh, mystery red. Terri did you have any reds? The only one on the list was Desiree, but I didn't note it. - 1lb

Yellow Finn - 1 plant - 2lbs

Purple Viking - 2 plants - 1.75lbs

French Fingerling - 3 plants - 4.5lbs

I am stunned at the Fingerlings! They did awesome! I agree with Terri on the Vikings, the prettiest thing you can grow in the ground. All in all I'm pleased with the spud crop this year, I haven't had the greatest luck in the past. And there is still a full row of Kennebecs to dig. Boy, do I need a root cellar. I'll get to the taste test soon...

Just for ease of comparison.

OK everyone...I KNOW you all have been waiting with bated breath for my 2012 potato experiment! Remember last years....planting in a barrel was a bust....this year I went with heirloom types to see how they grew. I have NO FRIGGEN IDEA why I decided that I had to dog potatoes on the hottest day of the year...but I did and once I got started I had to dig all the heirlooms just to see what else there was....kinda like digging for buried treasure ya know? AMY--you need to post your results also. I got the potatoes and gave Amy hers at the bash...So OK...here are the pics:

Yellow Finn---not a great producer but I might have mixed some up with the Fingerlings. Nice yellow color. I will report on flavors after dinner tonight...

These are the fingerlings. I thought they would be more like the shape I planted (finger-like) There may be a few Yellow Finns mixed in here however. They did all hold onto the plant and had to be broken apart.

Purple Viking--really a cool looking potato! Very white inside. I think this might have been the whole gathering of the two potatoes I planted though so not a great producer. Maybe there are more in the garden but I dont think so.

These are the results of some of the RedGold potatoes from my grocery store. Again they did not carry on the golden flesh that they had when purchased.

My favorite! These are called All Blue. they were very prolific for only planting 2 potatoes! (cut up of course) A few nice big specimens and lots of little ones. The only problem I had was that they are very hard to see in the dirt of the garden!

Just for fun I dug one one my Kennebec potatoes. This is in a gallon pail not a 5 gal LOL! The plants are still alove and this will be my "keeper" potato for the winter.
I have not dug the Yukon Gold or the Norland Reds as yet either...those vines are still growing too.
Ya know, looking at this report, I guess it is not a great surprise that my garden didnt produce a lot this year...it seems that I planted a whole BUNCH of spuds! LOL!

Hey Amy....waiting for your report! TerriOpotatocrazy!

Cute pic of you Amy!!! Looks like a fun time.

TerriO THanks for the confirmation. I have one or two that are obviously moulting but by the number of feathers I swear there were 10 chickens plucked naked!!! As far as worms..I had a test done at the beginning of summer and they had small amount of worms. So much so that the vet recommended waiting until moulting time to worm them; so I would think I would be safe to use Ivomec? I have half 1 yr olds and half that are 3.5 to 5 months old. They young ones should be fun with the Ivomec right?

Ok folks... I'm getting the incubators out again! I have a dozen cream legbars coming, 8 lemon cuckoo orpingtons, and a dozen blue wheaten Ameracaunas. I'm getting them at the end of the month. I might just throw a couple of my own chickie eggs in there too!

BTW, I have a cute fluffy white silkie Roo to rehome. He's cute and sweet, and I honestly think Chloe will be introduced to him. Let's SEE if Marge could be so mean as to separate her daughter from a silkie...:D

I have 4 additional human boys coming over for my 11 yr olds birthday party. I have to take them to a movie in Madison. Then they'll be kicked outside to the camper. I said they can stay up all night, as long as I don't hear them! It ought to be fun for my hubby tomorrow morning since I won't be here. I have to teach Sunday school... (yes democrats pray too :lol: )

I hope Baby didn't hurt her dirty self today....

I am back and exhausted. Clothes soaking, finally ate some lunch, scrubbed my top layer of skin off, and I am going to take a nap!

This course was rough, not very smoothed out trails and not very wide (you could easily sprain an ankle with the amount of potholes in the path). They had us literally running through swamps and shallow 'ponds'. For the entire course there was ONE water station, and it was located at the 3/4 mark of the race. One ag. type water tote with 4 hoses running off of it for rinsing, no place to check your bag...... I was not impressed after having run 2 dirty girls this year. I realize this was the first year setting something like this up, but they should have scouted out other mud runs..... they also did NOT post all information on their web pages, they chose to send it via email.....

Thank you Amy for showing up and taking pics! It was great to see you! Kori and I were discussing how we would like to head down to the Mid-West Horse show this spring. It would be great to caravan down with fellow chickenheads.....

Enough griping, I have to get a nap in before heading to the Fireman's Dance tonight..... I get to 'hang' with all the people who are at the moment hating me... sounds like a GOOD time!

They are not going to force me into hiding......

Cool potatoes Amy! WTG!

DrH-DH and I take the extra set of truck keys with us when we go to the dump. See, we have three dogs that think it's their sworn duty to safeguard us when we go to the dump. Not to mention that they also get extra special treats from the guys who work there! Going to the dump is like a whos who in the dog world. Everyone takes their pooches! It's very funny. Anyway, one of the dogs who goes is Aiden aka Monkey. Aiden is rather ummmmm....well Hyper and rather ahhhh...acrobatic. He also like to scratch at the door/window and his specialty is locking the door. As soon as DH unlocks it via the remote entry, Aiden being all hyper and Mommy Oriented startes to paw at the passenger door and locks it . This can go on forever so I take the extra set of keys. Oddly my truck only has a keyhole on the drive side door. The passenger has to wait until the driver unlocks the door either by the remote entry or by the switch on the drivers side door. It's the one thing I find really annoying with my truck.
DH is usually really go about remembering to take the key out of the ignition when we are there and unloading, but everyone in awhile he forgets. Aiden then very courteously locks the doors. Hence the extra key.
So today DH had one set but "lost" the other set. Still would suck since it coasts a boat load to get another key made.
