Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Judge - I'm fairly new at this chicken wrangling but from what I understand and have seen anyone new in the coop is going to have a target on their backs for a while. I'll leave guesses on how bad a new bantam would have it up to others with that experience.

Well Shandy was getting wheezy. Another symptom of a form of Merricks. We decided our ending her discomfort tonight would be better than letting her hang around to enjoy the next set of things that would ultimately kill her. The most kind thing to do I hope.

TTFN crazy chicken people

Oh Marg, I am so sorry!

Judge, you just have hens now? Then adding a banty roo will be fine. I highly doubt they will pick on him. For many years, I had LF hens with my banty roo Jack. The 2 second drill can be rather humorus. I believe DH describes it as watching a cowboy ride a bucking bull?

Hi All!

GR... that was 3rd cutting grass hay! Saw some 4sale today for $7! The drought hit hard down here! Hummm.... you didn't hear?... I'm out of the "Broom Closet"

DrH... You know I love those cement chickens of yours! They have character ! Bettin' that big guy has to be a couple hundred minimum!

Twiz....Sure... go and show us all those cuties! Make us want! LOL

MXM... Yep, I don't want to butcher these... they are too nice so I'm going to try to re home them first. That one is a pure Dom. But I got all the roos I can use now. and way more!.... sorry about Shandy... you tried

TO... hope those ducks do better with the young than the guineas or your chickens do!

judge.... I thought you were kinda near me? I have lots of extra roos! All LF.More than what I posted.

This is Ozzy... He's Gold Comet/ Australorp I'm keeping him for egg layers.

I wish I knew what combo made this hen,,,, she sure is pretty... she has a pea comb.but I seem to have kept missing her head!

This is a pullet hatched here too.... I have NOTHING that looks like her! Someone must have come here and slipped her in! LOL

Well, time for bed.... Night!

VERY CRISPY morning all! Frost so thick it looks like it snowed! Haven't been out to the coop yet. Bet the girls aren't happy

My poor stirFry is doing much better but she still doesn't seem to be able to handle cold very well yet.

My girls are back in production!!

I have gotten 3 eggs from 4 girls

and no one went completely bald from the molt

I think poor little Stirfry (the one that had the tumor, egg break or???) is the only one not laying. She seems otherwise fine except she is still a pasty "leaky" butt but does not appear to be nearly as bad. Soup has so far not stopped laying so maybe she is just starting her molt. The Pinless Peepers arrived in the mail yesterday. I was hoping I would not need to use them but she is still pulling feathers, and eating them, AND getting really mean when I give them all treats, so I guess I have to. She is a big hen but really, she eats like a pig! Then again, she lays a huge egg, EVERY day, so. Momma, aka Broody Butt has finally, after an entire summer of brooding, has now started laying again. I hadn't seen one of her eggs in so long I forgot hers is so purplish it almost looks like an egger. Kind of pretty.

Well, finally warming up (relatively speaking) so I have to get busy. I get to go play today at the Art in the Square in Crandon after hitting a huge annual rummage @ ST Mary's church in Pickerel.

Have a great weekend all!!

GM all!

I'd like to hear input on fall moulting..When does it usually start? Have your birds started yet? Does the whole flock usually start/end close to the same time? I am trying to figure out the best time to start a worming cycle for them.

Some pretty roo pics!! I have one week to figure out which of my Lav Orp cockerals I am re homing next weekend. They are both complete sweethearts.
One-Peekachu is sweet shy and already figured out his job...has lemon lacing. The other is sweet a lil more outgoing (hasnt started crowing yet-3 wks younger) and actually seems to enjoy haveing his wattles stroked at bedtime. Hes a very light lavendar all over.
Both are beautiful and unique. I may post pics this week and get some feedback. Right now I just want them for protection for the girls and love to hear the morning crowing.
I also need to find a home for Spreckles my mottled Lav who I am hoping will have more mottling after his molt.

Good Chilly Morning All! Dan think I have the dead weight thing solved all I have to do is sit in the seat.

Thanks for the pics of your equines Twiz! Vic all I'm gonna say about egg production is that yesterday I got a certain number of eggs it was between 5 and 7.

Cind I'm going to see that guy next week sometime and I'll ask what it cost but L said the hen on the stump was around $50.

You really do have some neat lookin birds! Keep forgetting to ask and I know you had a very expensive summer but did you get that stove up and running? Bigz sounds like the bar is pinching the chain? If so that is an easy fix. Take the bar off and drop the chain in the groove and spread or file the tight spots. judge glad to hear things are calmer for your flock! Had a hawk hit the window AC this morning. It missed it's target.

and flew off don't know if it hurt it's self or figured the prey was too big. It was 3' from my eyes. Made 2 huge batches of veggie beef soup last night and got the dishes done b4 L got up so as soon as the burger is thawed it'll be a double batch of Joe's butt burnin chili!
droolin.gif
Think as long as the BFF is here hunting he can help take the AC out. I usually do it myself but it seems to get heavier every time.

Took out the garden pump yesterday but I see the plastic sprinkler still out in the garden.
roll.png
Donny asked me to build him some nest boxes to replace the 5 gallon pails he uses so that's on todays or tomorrows list.

Aslo, afew months ago I read up on worming and now can't remember the name of the wormer that: You can use on the skin, and still collect eggs-and it kills full broad spectrum of parasites. Was it Ivomec?

Morning! Headed out to do the run in a few.

Actually I just looked at the clock and think I need to book it out of here PDQ.... better get my bag packed!

Amy, I will keep an eye out for you and the tomatoes for the crew down south!

Fish Fry Friday To All...just finished putting the cooker away..It was deep fried swai with new potato fries that turned out really good. Suzie made some potato puffs too..she likes those cause their light and less filling...I like filling up with food and liquids with a mission...LOL!

I'll keep your offer in mind about the saw bl4....I'll give er another try and see if the chain freezes to the bar once it's warmed up again, like the last time i used it. I have a lot of cutting to do in the near future.

Suzie again says thanks for the b-day wishes.

Thanks for the heads up on the husky balance issue Doc...seems to me that a small engine repair guy told me that all the replacement parts for the stihls are specialty parts..can't just use a piece of hose here or there. Gotta be stihl parts with their little clips etc...? I know alot of folks that make their living inthe woods...they tote stihls for a reason...I guess. Might look into their small ones just for knowin what's out there option wise.

bigz
my DH is wondering if the bar is getting oiled? Is the saw consuming bar oil. He had that problem with his saw and the bar has been damaged so it freezes Good luck
