Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all

Ive been gone this week (from the interwebs)working as a poll observer for the league of women voters. I would have never imagined how involved the observer process was, that said I can't wait to do it again.

MXM- no problem on the seeds. I have to make another trip to TerriO before February to drop off the maple tree tapping kit I promised her. I can bring seeds then and you can come get them from her.

Thumbs up everyone that has good stuff happening

Vicki- The affordable heathcare act is certainly amendable. The way that happens is through shining light on the faulty parts. Please tell us where in the law you are affected and we can all tell others and our elected representatives and that is how things change here.

Let's fix it.

Happy Gloomy wet day!

No school the rest of this week, so we're all cooped up, with some runny noses to boot - started pounding the C and Zinc at breakfast. Thank you to the person that posted the way to make 'mothered' ACV! That will sure beat $5-6/quart.

H&R, well wishes for your dad to get well. And TO, how heartbreaking, I hope that string of bad luck is over! Ghost, how the heck is that hen still alive?? FT and DrH, congrats on new furry babies!

The first thing that needs to go is the mandate to buy insurance. If you can't afford the coverage, what in Hades makes them think you can afford a $2K fine??? Bureaucraps....

sunny here today, will enjoy it!

My dad was able to go home yesterday afternoon- his foot is swollen yet but the tests came back clear- they are treating him for an infection, they also aren't sure if his gout is also causing problems..... we talked to him last night and he was in good spirits. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers on his behalf.

TO hope your birds are doing better today

hope everyone has a better day!

Good morning all--You are welcome to use my name if you like Frenchie---only problem is that I am probably over my "animal units" for the land I have so as long as your county doesnt talk to my county it should be fine...guess you'd have to figure that one out. Do you really WANT another horse?
lau.gif
(or is that a silly question?) Sometimes I have to tell myself that there really ARE other people who can take good care of animals besides me!

Stuff is looking good for the remaining MG cock. I need to dub him if I am going to show him nest year...MLH tells me that it is different for that breed so I need to do some research...he seems to like being in the basement with the baby ducks...*sigh* looks like another year of basement birds.
Really didnt want that!

Doing some laundry today...then off to work. DH wants warmer sheets on the bed so I guess it is flannel season! He hates the featherbed so I am only putting it on MY side of the bed!
celebrate.gif
I love it...feels like you are sleeping in a nest!

DrH I am so happy that you saw the light on the kitties! You wont be sorry...you think chickens are fun to watch? Just wait! After we got our first set of kittens we always went with doubles from then on. Problem is, they are so fun that after they grow up you want MORE and they increase doubletime then! YUP--I had to laugh at that "Cat lady starter kit" Too funny! (and so true!)

Better get outside and let the horses out...I am sure they are finished with their breakfast by now....
Sorry CC I did not take any pics of the post mortem. I was talking on the ohone to my friend and explaining what I was seeing and didnt even think about it! Darn...oh well.

Have a great day everyone! At least it is a bit brighter today! TerriOgladtheslowweekisnearlyovercausethebillatthefeedstoreisgettingBIG

The dog update (for Kristi P in particular): I am looking at a standard poodle. I am specifically looking at a lady who breeds for therapy dog temperment. She has adopted 5 children of her own from foster care. They stumbled upon a poodle therapy dog in working with their own children. Her name and dogs have been added to the breeder list for Northstar. (An organization that trains therapy dogs specifically for autism.) While I cannot afford, or stand to wait years, for an already trained therapy dog, I can start out with the right base and build from there.

Halden actually did really well. He did not get freaked out by the dogs. We started having one around, then 2, then 3, then 4. He actually engaged enough to hold a 2 1/2 wk puppy. Not for long, but it was still a start. But what was pretty cool was when he climbed into the whelping box. It was cool because over protective momma was in there with her 9 puppies. She was FINE with him right next to her and the pups. It was cool because Halden WANTED to be near them. He pulled the towel over his legs (gotta get comfy with a "blanket" of course) and just sat there, quietly, with the momma. He didn't try to grab the puppies, or pet them. But he wanted to be in her space, and was ok with her in his.

I feel comfortable with the temperment of her dogs, and how they are raised around 5 children. I think this could be a very good thing for Halden and our family. But I have to convince my hubby of it. So we wait. We see how the dog sitting goes for my friend. If it goes well,it ought to help my hubs go along.

It turns out this woman's children see the same pediatric neurologist Halden will be seeing tomorrow. She really loves this DR and said Dr Dominsky is very good and thourough. Nice to hear that for sure!

Chicken talk: I moved the chicks to the basement. When I did that I noticed our water was backing up into the basement. Well that sucked and had to be dealt with. That happeneed because of a plug somewhere and because I had been scrubbing the sink from the chicken I had to give a bath. I had to give a chicken a bath because her backend was coated with egg and poop and yuck. It was coated because of a terrible prolapsed vent.
hit.gif
This prolapsed vent was bad, bloody, etc. Saddest thing was this happened on her first egg. If it was going to happen on her first egg, then it is going to keep happeneing. I cried because she didnt get a chance to be a normal laying hen. She's gone now.
hit.gif
I am very sad for her. (and I warn everyone to NOT say a thing about being hasty because I had a really craptastic day yesterday with the water and this poor girl and I did what I thought was right.) (oh and I'll get really b-itchy for sure)

Im hoping i can be productive today and get some cleaning done and some laundry done. Unforunately I have to clean before I can fold because I have to spread clothes out over such a large area to sort for 5 kids. I cant seem do do it if I'm laying clean clothes on top of junk laying on the floor. So clean first, laundry second! Have a great day folks!

Heather...sound like you are doing the exact perfect steps you can for Halden. Glad that he did so well with the pups and sounds like you are doing all that is best for him with new Dr. Hugs... it is never easy, but knowing you are doin a great job is what is best.

And no worries about the chicken. I had one with a prolapse that had just started laying last spring and I hung on to her too long and made Carol do my dirty work... when they are sufering and there is no hope for the future,,, you have to move on.

Frenchie...fingers crossed for Cody and doing what is best for your home and animals!

I am at work and thinking of a million things I could be doing.. but I am here and doing some halloween clearance shopping at lunch. Found some kids costumes for $2 last year, lets see what is out there this year

Morning all!
So today is Bran Stokers "birthday". How odd is it that I just finished a book with Bran Stoker as a character who was a thrall to a vampire!

On a very cool note, Parker HS in Janesville is doing a production of Miss Siagon. There are two local Vietnam vets who are going to be flying in by chopper to talk to the cast and a social studies group about the events during that time to give them a better understanding of the play. The cool part is this. The vet flying the chopper was a chopper pilot in Nam. The chopper he is flying is his. He bought it from a sheriff's department that was decommissioning it. Turns out in his research on the chopper, he found out that it was used in Nam and not only that, it was used by his unit. So there might be a chance the he actually flew it in Nam and now he owns it.

Hey! Does anyone have a good Banana Bread recipe? One where nuts are optional? Thanks!

I got out early-ish this morning to to some errands in town. Pick up rabbit food, refill the water jugs for the cooler, treated myself to a Pumpkin muffin from Dunkin, went to the bank, got gas, went to the post office....now I'm catching up here!
The Girls are great and Buzzy loves her heat lamp. She thinks it's the best thing ever. Spoiled pheasant!

Elvis had a gig with DH at Cluck! The Chicken store this weekend. At least I think it's this weekend. I wasn't paying to muck attention to DH when he was blabbing about it!

Vicki-Sorry your were having a tough day yesterday....
hugs.gif
I'm with you on the Obamacare crap. I worry about my BBF. She is self employed and cannot afford health insurance at all nor can she afford the $2k penalty.

BL4-I concur with your thoughts. Mine run the same. Buy a gun and buy as much ammo as possible while we still can. Then stock pile water, food and medical supplies and trade items....can we say Prepper?

TO-Glad your birds are doing better. That is very interesting on the necropsy.

H&R-Glad to hear your Dad is at home!
big_smile.png

BigFam-Sorry to hear about your pullet with the prolapsed vent. Sometimes they do that and if you "fixed" it then more then likely the next egg would have done the same. Or she would get enteritis. While is was hard and sad, you did right by her. She could have had a genetic defect or she might have been built "funny" inside. Nothing you can do in those cases except ease her suffering.

Well, now I need to get going....It's only 11 and feel like it's 3....
Later

Bf4m.... Sounds like a poodle might be just the ticket !!! Would the owner keep the pup for you for a while and do some training ?? Or help you train yourself.

Now the important question... what color are her poodles ???? They're all pretty
love.gif
and they know it too. GDI now I want one !!!! LOL But no room or dollars at this Inn.

As far as Cody goes, no TO I don't need nor really want another horse BUT I made him promise when I found him that I would not let him live in those conditions `and I feel I have to follow through. When I asked ETat the time if I could rescue him (at the the time purchasing him) I stipulated that I would (most likely) rehome him. I was actually thinking of a theraputic riding facility or ??? Not to just anyone on CL etc.
I agree there are just as many good homes as mine but trying to find them is a different story...
Thanks for offering your name, I may just take you up on it.
Sorry about all of your losses, I had that in the second have of my post last night that I lost................but my CRS flaired up and didn't add it to my third attempt to get my post up. Hope that is he end of your losses. We lost some birds here and there when we had the first week of freezing temps.

I love the "Cat Lady Starter Pack" !!! Who dreamt that one up ?

So what's with the $2k penalty ?

You know what gets me is, I'm on medicare right, then I have Blue Cross as Secondary. Before I was told that I had to have Medicare as Primary my Blue Cross paid 100% if I went to a PPO doctor and met my deductible.
When we got married ET got my Blue Cross. He gets the same thing....thank the good lord !!!
Anyway now that my BC is secondary they only pay 90% after medicare pays 80%. So what they are actually paying is the 10% above Medicare then I have to pay the additional 10% out of pocket until I reach another limit then it will pay the 20% that medicare didn't pick up.
Now how is that fair. When I asked BC that question years ago they said it was the law !!!!
Now why would you not pay 20% when previously you were paying 100%..... who would you contact about that crazy law.

Speaking of healthcare, DH ET has to go to Wausau tomorrow to get that loop recorder implanted in his chest. It's not a pacemaker or defibulator. It will moniter his heart rate and send a report for them to look at. Battery is good for 3 years.... Just hope that's true and that someone is actually doing there job and notices any problem before I have to call them that there is one......
fl.gif

Oh and doc you know I am only kidding you about your back issues !!! I luv ya you know !!!
Ok on with the show !!! Going to the laundry mat today. Washer still isn't fixed......

Gnarly is right, CC! I'm sorry you had to do that and come up sorta inconclusive Terri!
sad.png
No fun.

Glad the Roo is looking good.

I agree the Crazy Cat Lady Starter kit was hilarious!

Ghost I hope that miracle chicken keeps doing well!

And that experience Halden had with the pups and mom sounds really awesome

Thinking about you FT and the horse you're helping so much.

Have purchased the sheets of insulation for the coop. Now to cut them up into the pieces I need. How far away from the venting cracks shall I put the insulation? I know venting is everything and I want to get it right.

Thanks for your help!

good evening folks

lots of reading again, but I think I kept track today

MLH very cool report on the Nam pilot, spent a lot of time with those guys, they truly were "the best of the best" and still are in my book, it would be interesting to see stats on how many are still flying and what their job descriptions are.(most are probably retired now that I think about it)

Heather also a good report on the dog and Halden, I hope it all works out for you guys. Who knows you have goats laying blue eggs maybe the poodle will chit the golden turd!

I chuckle when I see folks needing more guns to hoard, those 2nd amendment scare tactics sure have been good for the guns and ammo industry. I personally never could use more than one gun at a time, having some extra ammo around makes sense if you are an active shooter.

I was happy with the national election results, won't say the same for the state senate or congressional, scarey times ahead for this state with no control on the teabaggers. That "secret redistricting" really worked.

kris those dogs are great around kids and critters good choice!

Terri I hope you can come up with a conclusion as to that problem it's scarey to think about loosing that much stock and work.

off to forage I'm starved
