Off to my mom's to see my brother and his fam off to the Twin Cities. He is leaving for China tomorrow and will be gone for the next 3 weeks over there so it was very nice to spend a lot of time with him.

TTFN!

Who's looking for roosters? I think the listing for roosters in Amery is BBPs-she has quite a few gorgous healthy beautiful roosters!!!!! BlackBrookPoultry is where a good portion of my flock came from!!!!
Edit to include the CL post:

Yes! thanks, that is the rooster I was referring to Kristip for those broody hens you mentioned. He's really pretty, like you said BBP- those eyes do set him off.

Morning all. 3 degrees cooler today, that brings it to 19 on the porch...glad I drained the hose yesterday for sure! Not looking forward to heading outside here either! My ducks have been hanging around at the neighbors' pond. I see them when I come home that way. They are funny cause they come home to eat in the evening, maybe they stay until the sun comes up and then they head back across the big field to sit at the edges of the pond all day! Maybe they are doing it because I drained their kiddie pool for the winter?

I came downstairs today to find people sleeping in my living room! DS23 had friends over last night and they must have had "too much" so they stayed here. At least they werent driving!
When I got home yesterday the kids had bags piled all over the kitchen. I guess they got some good buys on Black Friday. I like your method better Vicki...order on line and go and pick it up at the store! Did you have to put a down-payment on the things so they wouldnt sell them out from under you?

Thanks for the link for those stickers! I looked at other ones that they offered too but I ordered the "I got laid..." ones. I can use them to cover up some of the writing on my cartons.
Speaking of eggs...ODrH, I have my lights on a timer too. Goes on at 2AM or so and off at 8AM. I get eggs all winter too.
When I took eggs to my family at Thanksgiving no one "donated" to the chicken feed....*sigh* I guess subtlety is lost on them. I will have to be like my Grandfather and put a can on the table! (either that or just shut up and either donate them or not bring any!) You would have to know my family!

Today I am planning on finding the slicker brush for dogs and combing out my saddle wools that got trashed when we sunk in the swamp! They are finally dry so I can brush them. I will take a pic when they are done...so pretty!
Oh yeah--pics! Great job JIm! I am sure you are thinking that it isnt so hard now hey? You just had to practice! I love the garden cart...with that brooder on top you could take it to town and sell ice cream out of it! (That's what it reminded me of when I first saw it)
Pretty, pretty roos BBP! I like my purebred ones but the different colors and mixed body styles of crosses are my favorites! Oh I have one to share...I dont think I have posted her yet.

Isnt she the oddest thing? There are 2 more that are her sisters. They are black and white cuckoo patterned. All of them hang around the yard and are the first to greet me when I come out the door. They are not cooped up at all and love to come up on the porch and see if there is anything there to get into...I NEED that chicken doormat!

Guess I will head off now...I want to get some pot roast started in the slow cooker for dinner. Then I guess chores should be done...gosh I love my insulated coveralls in this weather!
Have a great day everyone...TerriOgoingtomakeanotherpotofcoffee

ETA: Forgot to mention...that crazy hen lays blue eggs too!

Morning all!
Same old same old here! DH took care of the SLW with the bum leg this morning. AT least now she/he is in a much better place and no longer uncomfortable.

TO-I'd treat your tort's eye with an antibiotic without a steroid. Neomyacin (sp?) would work or anything with some form of AB in it. Just no steroids. HTH I have a great vet in Stoughton but I don't know if they treat exotics. They are called Chalet Veterinary Clinic. I love them! I can get you their # if you want...

Hurley- TO, Vicki and David run lights the 'smart" way. Timers are a great thing to do in the winter to increase light to your Girls. I use lights but I'm lazy. I use those light bars you find in garages and I use the florescent lights that are for plants/ fish. "sun lamps" I think they call them-they replicate true sun light. I turn mine on when I go do my coop chores and turn them off when the Girls start to roost. I still get good egg production although I have some breeds that are excellent layers regardless of light. I have found that added light does not effect my seasonal layers though. They don't lay in winter regardless of how much light they get.

BBP-Beautiful horse! Love those pinots!

Well, best get gone....the birds feeders need to be filled...I see the finches are tapping their feet wanting for me to get a move on!!
Later!

Yep, going to have to rig up some lighting for my girls, I think. Wonder how quick it kicks them in...

Hmm, silkie eggs/chicks?

Pie is in the oven! I took pics of the crust before I filled it, I will post later with the pics of the empty and filled pie.

I need to start putting neosporin in Trixie's eye. She scratched it at the in-laws a few weeks ago and it is not healing like it should. She is really fussy about letting me look at it too. I can see the abrasion on the cornea when she looks at me, but if I try to examine her she glues that eye shut and covers it with the third eyelid.

Brother and family hit the road around 10. I let them know that they were probably going to encounter some snowy roads the further north they went..... good thing they have a nice SUV to drive in. Sent my SIL home with my LAST bar of lav soap..... guess I need to make more!

BigZ, send me a PM when you would like to meet.

Hurley, Last year my girls quit laying on THanksgiving day. Mid Jan. I put up lights and it was aprox 2 weeks before they started in again. Walmart has a full spectrum grow light (looks like a florescent strip light) and hooked that up with a timer from FF....for less than 20 total. Worked great. Im trying to decide if Im going to let mine jsut figure this out and then add the lights again in Jan or if I want eggs for holiday baking and will add the light then figure out a way to give them a month off in Jan or Feb.

pic d'jour these are my two brooder pens that I mention once in awhile.. some of you have seen them,, this is for those of you who have not seen them..

they are 10 feet wide and 4 ft from front to back..
there are 3 roosts equaling 12 feet in the center part..

In the right side one, I have that heated chick brooder.. I can take it out and use it in the ;ean-to pen if needed..
currently I have 3 peafowl, about 12 guineas and a couple of young turkeys in the left one,, and a hen with 3 half grown chicks in the right one.

both side doors slide to the center.. I have more detailed pics if anybody wants to see them.. Dan already built one similar to these..

I move them around with a tractor front loader and some 4 by 4 wooden forks that I made..
