Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey TO

Candling tonight shows veining in all but 2, and those two really look like there should be veining, probably just not turned so I can't see clearly. They are looking good!

Hello everyone, Happy New year! Wow, I don't check for a while and I am suddenly 10 pages behind!!! Not even going to try to make too many comments cause I would probably get things all wrong so I am just going to say that I am sorry for the losses

, jealous of all the NYD hatchers , and hang in there Dr H. Oh, I tried making the chicken chick's flock block and my spoiled girls wouldn't eat it, so I wound up feeding it to the wild things.

those of you who thought my little 19 week old mutt pullet was a "she" you were right! I have 3 hens and 1 pullet, right? In the last 12 hours I have collected 5 eggs! 3 normal and 1 little one in the catch box under the roost and another little one, still warm, in the greenhouse next to a rather surprised looking new HEN who I had to pick up to get her to leave her egg and go into the coop for supper.

another silly hen. sure hope her eggs get bigger. Ok, SHE

is a white hen with a slight smattering of black feathers and black spots on her yellow legs. She was hatched from a deep brown egg and lays very small (at least right now anyway) eggs even though she is just slightly smaller than my Black Stars. Her egg isn't white either. So far it's a very pale tan???? I'll supply an updated pic if it stops snowing before the temps tank again (supposed to be single digit highs by later in the week

). I have NO clue what her mix might be, any guesses? Daddy has to be either a (possible) white leghorn or a roo that looks an awful lot to my untrained eye like a Lackenvelder. As far as the neighbor I got the egg from knows, the only brown egg layers she is sure she has are sunnyside blacks but she has quite a mix and really has no idea who is laying what since hers free range and she finds eggs everywhere. (She has seen how nice and controlled my set up is and plans to build a nice "yard" for hers in the spring. Anyway, I will be posting pics of her so all you much more knowledgeable folks can take a look.

Now I am exhausted and close to my bedtime. Have to be sharp tomorrow so I can finish up the project I started today, (would have finished but had to make a run to HomeDepot) rewiring our phone system before the satellite guy shows up on Monday to install our dvr upgrade that will connect my internet, TV and computer together. This thing is supposed to be able to record 5 shows at once, etc. etc. etc. and we were able to play the "but we have been very loyal customers" card (and a little finangling) and got the DVR and install for free. All we had to pay for was the internet conversion box!

I needed this to push me to finish the line upgrade I actually started last fall when I buried the new line from the network conversion box that is next to our garage over to the house. The current connections were a jerry rig under the house I did with the wrong wire, splitters everywhere etc. that was supposed to just be a temporary fix to get us up and connected while we took care of more important stuff in the new place.Anyone else know how that goes? Anyway, my DSL has been getting worse and worse (not to mention the phone) and I know it's probably because my "temporary" rig has probably been chewed on by several generations of field mice and chipmunks by now.

So if I'm not on again for awhile you know my "upgrade" didn't go very well.

Goodnight everyone

Hello again! Vicki--you are a funny lady! I cant wait to meet you in person (you and your DH better be planning on being in Clintonville for our Chickenfest!) As far as that goes...ALL of you guys better be planning on attending! (except Carol of course cause she has to take care of my farm!) LOL!

I am listening to "Saturday, In The Seventies! Whoop! Whoop!" (I wish there were music notes to type) I feel like I am back in High School! So many songs that I have forgotten and am enjoying hearing them again. It is funny when you hear an old song and you can remember when you heard it for the first time or maybe what you were doing when you heard that song! Yeah...I will shut up now. LOL!

Judge I am sorry to hear of Matilda's demise! SO sad when it's a favorite. It seems that you have had a rough start in this chicken hobby! I wonder what happened to her...unfortunately, we never seem to be able to find out! That's the bad thing about them seeming fine the day before and the next day they are dead! We beat ourselves up thinking about what we missed or what we should've done. Sometimes it just happens...

Carol I dont think you should have to keep the battery warm to get the truck to start. Is it a diesel? Then you need an engine warmer block...I am using one now to keep my waterer thawed...might change it though cause I can do it with a 100 watt lightbulb and this thing is 250W! Ching ching! Otherwise a battery should be able to start the truck in pretty cold temps...perhaps you need a new one? None of our cars have the benefit of a garage and they pretty much always start.

DH and DS23 are at the Bucks game tonight...I wonder if they are having Father/Son bonding time? DH was telling DD26 today that he thought she should talk to DS about getting some antidepressants. He said that DS wont listen to him or me so she should talk to him. I am not a fan of this kind of talk...why make DD responsible for her brother?

Man, I am so sick of hearing the Rosetta Stone Language commercial I could SCREAM!!! This station plays it way too much!

Thanks for the info on the hen/roo thing ODrH! I didnt think it would make a difference but...I am glad the eggs are developing...I have another dozen on the counter! Do you think anyone else on the swap/sale threads would be interested in them? I really dont want them to start setting yet and I know from past years that they will as soon as they have a clutch! I considered blowing them out...(we always called that thing a nose sucker) and selling them that way. I might do it with the goose eggs--a little more to work with that way. My Mom used to make really neat ornaments from them and had a hard time finding the eggs. Of course now that I have many she doesnt make them any more!

Guess I better get off here and check out some other things...it is so nice and quiet with the MEN gone--no sports on the TV and no shooting games either! Yeah--I love it! Sh!t---they just walked in........there goes the quiet!

Later chicken people! TerriOgladchoresaredone!

Did you try the recipe I posted? Just wondering if it turned out like it says? Do you think it was recipe or just the chickens being too picky before I try it

terriO, do you have geese laying right now also? we have over 60 goose eggs in the fridge.. Tomorrow, DD#2 is supposed to get her syringe to us.. and DD#1 is going to try to find one of her bicycle pumps.. If this all doesn't come to pass, I will go buy whatever I need to get those eggs blown out..

the party was a lot of fun.. good food.. I had rib-eye steak and coconut shrimp.. way too much chocolate cake, too..

now I am going to go make a "root beer" with Seagram's diet ginger ale. good stuff, for sure..

see you all tomorrow....

Okay I need some advice.
We are in for some colder weather here this upcoming week, with 0 to -5 or more and maybe more with a wind chill.
I have my little truck I am driving daily but we don't have a car port OR a garage.
My thoughts are two fold, bring the battery in to keep it warm. OR put an under tank heater OR a clamp light under the hood of the truck, tuck a horse blanket
around the hood and then cover the whole vehicle with a car cover.
Ideas? thoughts? Yes I know I am bat $*** crazy... I own chickens!!
LOL
Hmmm, do you want to be fumbling around in the cold putting the battery back in or unwrapping the truck/hood, etc? If you can run an extension cord out for a heater or light, could you instead hook a battery charger/maintainer up to it instead? They say right on them that they keep the battery warm as it is charging, and they are only in the $20-30 price range.

Hi All!

Can't remember who wanted the Ameraucana Roo.... but I have a nice one I can try to get a Pic. of. I'm 90% he's pure. I know his daddy is and I'm pretty sure his mom is 1 of the 3 "blues" I got from Jim. I might even be willing to give up George if he was going for breeding. He's a good lookin' boy. I have a Dom roo I would be willing to lend out, but I don't think his wing feathering is "right", it looks a bit messed up.

TO.... Last year I was breeding for olive eggs. The only roos I let breed were the Ameraucanas, they pretty much covered all the girls lol. I sold a bunch of chicks but still have 2 or 3 giving me green eggs! I only had a couple real dark egg layers so (as far as I know) I didn't get olive. May I sold some that now lay olives

BTW.... your son wasn't being lazy....he was keeping the cats warm

judge... sorry to hear about Matilda
sad.png
Yep, sometimes it just happens. I think all of us as had that.

WCc... cute horse story!

Good luck with your eggs Jim!

Dr.H...... Hope L is doing well and will be home again soon.... Get some SLEEP!

A little explanation on my whine.... DH has diabetes so has these mood swings when his sugar is off. He doesn't eat right at work so sometimes when he gets home he's on a hair trigger! Can't always tell right away how's he's going to be.
hmm.png
Oldest son with his MS has issues too. People don't realize how much MS effects the brain. He's not near as sharp as he used to be. He often forgets things and sometimes can't find the words to say what he wants. Kind of like the early stages of dementia. This makes him 'touchy" too.
hmm.png
Then I have the 22yr old that has been on his own and now knows everything in the world there is to know. I'm too nosey when I want to know when he's working and if he's going somewhere. And of course we ask him to do so much around the place, and we'd be helpless without him!.... Did I mention he has a semi-privet suite (which should be my work shop) and pays no rent?
barnie.gif
But I'm a Bitoch when I complain about when they put plates with food on in the sink or leave their garbage on the counter when the garbage can is less that a step way! And heaven forbid I should forget something they wanted! Etc. Etc...... I just get frustrated. These are 3 adult men and I'm not suppose to get upset with them?
somad.gif
Thanks for the "ear"!

I think I'll take a nice bath then bed..... Night All!

Good Morning Everyone! Dang Cindy that sucks! Think you need to sit them all down and have a "talk". That's just so wrong! Read 5 pages and didn't take notes. So I

I'll miss a lot of people. Sorry! Judge I'm so sorry about Matilda! Agree with TO sometimes it just happens. WCc bet that was funny to watch! Trying to get things done early this AM want to be back to watch the game and not have to put L through it. Yesterday it seemed that I was nearly caught up now I'm way behind again. It's like I forgot that it's a continuous circle. Chickens are doing good but need to get some fresh straw in their laying boxes, getting dirty eggs. Jim glad you had fun pushing snow. I did too got 3 1/2 here. Where in the H is FT? And so many other MIA's! Laura was on clear liquids yesterday and going to soft food today. She called about an hour after I got home and we did the happy poop dance over the phone. Thinking they might cut her loose tomorrow. Things to do gotta go.

Well I got to sleep around 1 am, and was up at 7... bleh...
weak coffee, cold temps, and I have to get a move on so I can get to the pharmacy for mai drugs!! yeah babee!!
