Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I believe they can be entered as an other. We're currently working to get the standard finished for official submission to APA for consideration and to begin getting show entries counting towards the requirements. Eastern Iowa Poultry Association has offered to help us try to pull together a qualifying meet, so that will be the focus of this year, but would be fun (even if they can't really compete) to take some to shows to learn the ropes.

What do you use for training cages? Rabbit hutches or homemade coop cages or what?

that's one nasty copay! Hope you don't mind if I add you to my prayer list about that. I am jealous you are being able to lose med related weight. I was doing great losing weight (of course I didn't know it was because of the heart issue

) Since they changed my meds I've gained nearly 15 lbs! Eating like a pig thru the holidays had nothing to do with it of course

. Still can't do much in the way of exercise but at least I think I put the stops on the gain. Now I have to figure out how to get back on the losing track (never been one of the toothpicks to begin with). Got a freezer full of diet dinners for starters. Delisha~ After a full day of research and narrowing down my choices, you sold me!!! I like everything about the GLW's and think they would be a perfect fit with my setup and girls. Please take a look at the "full" description of the GLW's on the PurelyPoultry.com site and let me know what you think. Sounds like his breeder is putting out some good (if not show quality) birds. I've sent him a note to find out if I can pick up the chicks although $20 on the shipping for 12 isn't bad either. I don't need more than 2 or 3 but I think my neighbor might take some if they all do well. Speaking of my girls, it's 18o and flurries today so I didn't let the girls out til this afternoon to go play in the greenhouse for awhile. (surprisingly it was still 30o in there even tho there was no sunshine). I got busy and had forgotten about their dinner until my hubby drew my attention to the fact I had 4 hens standing as tight as they could get to the back door looking up at the window!!!

I really didn't think they would come out of the greenhouse so I didn't bother to close the gate across the steps to the porch. Does anyone else have chooks that can tell time???
D.gif
I quick put their warm mash together and off we go to the coop with my hubby in the window saying he wanted to watch the parade

. Just one more example of who has trained whom.

I did not know P.P has GLW of there own.....? when did this happen? I was under the impression that they use whatever hatchery has the birds they need? I ordered from them 2 years in a row, had pretty decent chicks.. but the GLW 'sI got were not good chickens, 2 roosters and both had some sorta deficiency or inbreeding, one never grew very big bantam size,1 had weird feathers and a strange body type and was a big scaredy cat from everything.... the little roo never did walk right he was my gimpy pet house chicken hobbles.......... I hope I'm wrong,, but there hatchery birds in the GLW are not good chickens and none of them even have the right lacing or feathers that I have seen............Kim

My DH made one

It really does not matter what you use. A dog crate will work. Anything that you can put them in and take them out. Confine them in a smaller area so they don't freak out.

That is good Black Brooks..do you have pictures?

Anytime you can enter birds in a show it really helps the breed..

and Hurley if you get them in a few shows that will really further your cause.

That's the plan. :)

I have loads of wire dog crates. Will look into maybe making a few that look like pictures I've seen of chicken coops/cages from shows.

Shows don't really start until the summer or later, do they?

Good Freakin' chilly evening! LOL! I finally got home about 4:40 today. Turns out when I went to bring my car up to load my stuff it wouldnt start! Just a bit of a grr-rrr, then nothing! SO one of my friends was still there and she brought her truck over. We hooked up her jumper cables and let mine charge for a while--NOTHING! Same noise. the lights worked, the key ding ding ding was working, the wipers worked...I didnt know what was up. DH said he was sure that her cables were bad and that I should just go over to Walmart and buy a battery and a wrench to change it out...yeah, it's 12 degrees and I am in dress pants with a nice coat! Definitely NOT dressed for auto mechanic work! He was on his way to the Dells with DD20 and her BF for a week vacation. The other two are heading up after volleyball tonight. My friend had to go so I called DD26 to come and get me. She didnt have room for all my stuff in her car so I say let's just try your cables and see what happens. Meanwhile DS23 goes into the hotel and get s a hammer and a rubber mallet. He starts knocking on the starter (which I was not sure what to pound on so I didnt do it--I hate "new" cars!) before we can try to start it. Well, it pops right over and starts up...!!! So I believe that it was the starter stuck the whole time. (expert's opinions?) Loaded up the stuff and off I went! WHew! I had no idea how I was going to get my car with no one home all week...it's not like I have no place I need to be all week!
So I had the best birthday I ever had...so many wishes and texts/calls! We all went to lunch at Beres Bros coffee house and the whole restaurant sang to me! (then we sang to another patron)
SO fun! I also goe much scrapbooking done and caught up with my friends too.

So, you guys were busy here! I stayed caught up...didnt want to have so much to read tonight. MXM stopped in to visit on my birthday too! I see she didnt come and talk to you guys--LOL!
Great job on getting those IAB's into some shows ODrH. They are really neat looking birds for sure! BTW--the duck eggs are still doing well? Another week yet-or is it two?
Carol brought those eggs over and my broody went unbroody I believe! I had been pulling her off every day because I didnt want any chicks now...Then she had good eggs...I am thinking that they arent any good now though--it was pretty cold. Maybe I should throw them under the other hen that is sitting...she has hers and another hens and a ducks too!

Well guys, I am falling asleep here. I can sure say that I had not much sleep this weekend! I DID kinda watch the game; my BFF is a diehard and she even had to head back to the hotel right after dinner so she could "warm up the TV!" (we had troubles last time) SHe did enough screaming and cussing for all of BYC! So I did watch a bit...between working on pages of course!

2 weeks now on the duck eggs. Had one clear and one ruptured air cell that never developed beyond a week. This week I took out the cracked egg as it had quit and another that stopped developing, but I've got 10 of the 14 looking great so far and right on track with what they say should be the weekly weight loss. Really hoping they do well after all this clucking I'm doing over them. Both chocolate eggs are still coming along nicely.

Will have to go along to the show, will be fun!

Redcactussalsa.com..

It is a sweet salsa that Annie buys at Menard's whenever they have it in stock..

It is GF .. and sweetened with sorgum syrup.. the ingredients say there is sugar in it also..

I am not much of a salsa eater,, but I like this kind.. It could have a bit more bite for my taste.

I am going to install the choke cable tomorrow.. but first I have to make a trip to Fleet for a hex head set screw for the wire clamp.. I do not like flat screw driver screws..

It sure got cold here.. was minus 8 wind chill the last time I heard..

OK going to lurk for awhile.. I'll check in if somebody posts..
