Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

OK, THIS is my last post for the night..

there were no saucers when we were kids sliding down the hill..

My dad was a furnace installer, and we would take a sheet of his sheet metal and sit on that..
you want to talk about a fast trip down the hill !! OSHA would have shut is down for sure.. there were no safety edges on that "tin" (as we called it).. I don't recollect anybody ever getting cut,,

and more than once, we hooked up a horse to our sleigh, which was the hood off of an old car turned upside down.. what great fun we had..

That reminds me of my husband's stories of sliding down the hill on an overturned car hood! lol

Turned the incubator on again last night. Set a few more orpington eggs, this time 5 white and 3 BBS from one of the swaps on here. I have a feeling I'll be incubating on and off right into summer this year! Especially with all the swaps I've got coming. Oh well, the kids love it and so far DH doesn't mind the chicks in the basement. Need to get a bigger brooder set up for them though. Really liking the Brinsea ecoglow for keeping them warm, instead of the heat lamp. Glad I got two of them for Christmas!

good morning, up a couple hrs ago when Jake chased the cat across my bed, ain't that cute?

yup the OE reference on byc refers to Olive Egger

pvc for mini-green houses

here's a pic from a few years ago when I used them for starting my giant pumpkins in April. You can use large document binder clips for holding end walls, these are 1/2"pvc on a 5'X8' base, there is a center ridge support that the bows are attached to with zip-ties,,,these huts were also anchored down in the field with strapping over the top. Wind will blow these things around like kites,,,,don't ask how I know that.

today I have to get a couple small heaters set in the coops,,just enough heat aimed at the waterers to keep them thawed in the next deep freeze.

My DH just bought me the Eco glow..I don't like it. It does not seem to keep them warm enough in the basement. They never wanted to come out to eat or drink. I think even my basement was to cold for the Eco Glow. I am going to try it again for the next hatch. With the heat lamp in the basement, it is a little warmer.

I'm using it in the basement too, our temps down there are pretty steady at 63°. At just over a week old they are spending most of their time out from under it and really love perching on top of it!

Good Warm Morning! Yup car hoods make great sleds until you wipe out. Jim glad the cable worked out! Now all we need is some snow. Frost is gonna go deep this year. Never had millet in a cocktail.

Vic I'm thinkin that new girls playground will be attached to the coop. That will give you more free time from not having to wipe off their little feet.

Everybody went in last at 4:30 except for Sparky the subordinate BA roo. Babykins wouldn't let him in. It happens all the time. Really agrivating to have to go back out to close up. He might be soup soon. Bigz nope I took it in the you know what as usual. Wanted $150 took $125 but better than a floor ornament. It really wasn't what he was looking for but..... For the last couple of days I was thinkin about hittin the woods, walked out there yesterday still plenty of snow where the sun doesn't reach. Twiz good to hear from you! Hope your new eggs all hatch! CasieD sounds like your going to have a housefull of chicks!

We would tie the car hood to the back of our car and pull it around out on the lake. My brother even used an old suitcase once. But this is the same brother that I would make "cars" out of cardboard boxes for and send him down the stairs. And we loved taking our mattresses for a ride down the stairs, especially those plastic waterproof ones.

Good chilly morning... was shivering at the bus stop this morning. Looks like next week will be scary cold.
Carol was over the other day and we noticed that one of my speckled sussex looked like she had a cold with sneezes so we put her in a kennel in the garage with a heat lamp and some antibiotics. Low and behold, she started laying. Know I cant eat the eggs for two weeks and I love getting eggs of all colors, but darn are their eggs an ugly shade of tan... now a pretty light brown or off white, nope just TAN.
oh well.. it is an egg...

trying to get used to this busier work schedule but things are bonkers at work. ugh. Hubby is in DC for work for a few days so that doesnt help. Anxious to have him come home tomorrow.
Want some free time to look at my seed catalogs and get planning. It is almost seed starting time.

know there was something else I was going to write but my mind is completely gone... sorry... one of those mornings...
