Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,, thanks for the millet info unka dan,, I put it into my favorites and will bring it uup for Annie to read.. I have the fenced in chicken yard that the chickens do not use.. I think I will till it all up and try a plot of millet in there.. the worse scenario would be if the chickens actually started going into that yard..

come to think of it,, my sil worked at a place in Schofield where they packaged millet.. I will have to give her a call about it..

bbp, wasn't it fun for you to have a brother that you could "experiment" with ?

a refer door for a sled,, neat.. that was back in the days where kids had more imagination..

some kids in the next neighborhood from us had a large grassy field next to a factory where they played football.. they had the grid numbers painted on the side of the warehouse building.. two of those kids went on to play for the Wisconsin Badgers.. Alan and Gary Kuehl... circa 1960 to 1964 thereabouts.. maybe only Alan,, I don't remember for sure..

yesterday, most of the chickens went right back into the coop after eating.. some of them did not even come out, and some of them were out way after dark.. I had to chase those in to shut the doors.. the guineas are the ones who really don't like the cold.. I have been feeding and watering in both coops to make sure that everybody gets to eat..

the geese have tapered off with their egg laying.. I have two sebs each sitting on a nest.. One egg apiece.. I don't think they ever get off the nest.. and are they ever filthy with dust and dirt..

I was thinking that with the chick TV, If you would set in on top of a heating pad would be a good way to warm up those chicks.. If you set it partially on the pad, there would be a cool end for them to go to.. and maybe one pad used in this fashion, could take care of two TV"s.

I have a heated dog dish that has a metal wrapped around about the last 4 inches of the cord that connects to the dish. .. the cord goes out the corner of their run, so they can't get at it. At any rate, it has worked great!! No freezing up at all this winter! I fill it every morning with warm water; it has be VERY easy.

Hey Chad! Welcome! Carol is in our neck of the woods too! I have a little over a dozen birds. Pets and eggs first. My goal is to be diverse, sell a few eggs to friends and have pets for my kids. And we are trying to breed some pure chicks this year too! How many do you have? Do you live on a farm or backyarder?

We had a 8x8 coop when we lived in stoughton and we had to sell the coop when we moved. we just bought a house a year and a half ago. now we are starting to get the itch to get back into chickens. we are going to build a chicken tractor and have probably 6 bantams just as a hobby. we live on the outskirts of town on hwy CC. its country but we still have neighbors on both sides. so we want a nice coop we can move around but not bother the neighbors. we love gardening and being outdoors. we have grape vines raspberry blackberry and gooseberry patchs. and will be planting some apple trees this spring. I am looking for someone that has some bantams hens for sale. we dont want cochins or brahmas though. we are going to build a coop like this one were hoping. www.cedarchickencoop.com the 5x8 model.

is Carol WiChookchick? I see she lives in Brooklyn, I also use to live outside brooklyn on Holt Rd.

I took care of the birds.. It was cold out, but not as bad as it looked from inside the house..

I tried to start Ollie.. just wanted to see if he would start in this cold weather.. well.......apparently he did not know it was cold out.. popped right off and I instantly throttled down to low idle, just to see what would happen.. not a pop or sputter out of Ollie.. just sat and purred like a pussy cat..

Now I feel comfortable enough to put the air cleaner back on..

I am getting anxious to plant our new garden.. we are going to work up some ground closer to the house,, the neighbor uses the field next to our yard, but he is just going to have to figure out how to get around our garden.. I have not told him about it yer..

with the new location, we will be able to stretch out hoses for watering.. No more hauling water in 55 gal barrels..

I would like to get a 300 gallon tote and set it up for drip irrigation.. that way the water will be warmer when it gets to the plants..

I am going to glue up the rungs on gramma's kitchen chair.. it really takes a beating when we slide it up to the table with her in it.. good job for gorilla glue..

Annie turned on the boiler for the in floor heat in the sunroom.. Ken spends most of his time out there and it is going to get really cold out in the next few days..

and that is where the cockatiels and parakeets live.. they are sitting on 5 cockatiel eggs and 1 parakeet egg.. can a cockatiel raise a parakeet ? we will find out..
