We had a 8x8 coop when we lived in stoughton and we had to sell the coop when we moved. we just bought a house a year and a half ago. now we are starting to get the itch to get back into chickens. we are going to build a chicken tractor and have probably 6 bantams just as a hobby. we live on the outskirts of town on hwy CC. its country but we still have neighbors on both sides. so we want a nice coop we can move around but not bother the neighbors. we love gardening and being outdoors. we have grape vines raspberry blackberry and gooseberry patchs. and will be planting some apple trees this spring. I am looking for someone that has some bantams hens for sale. we dont want cochins or brahmas though. we are going to build a coop like this one were hoping. www.cedarchickencoop.com the 5x8 model.
Chad,
I have a coop that would fit 6 large hens that needs a tiny bit of work (shingles need to be nailed down again) I have been trying to give it to folks but no one is close enough
to want it..
Let me know!
Oh and yes I am that Carol... aka WIchook chick

Quote: I don't have one of those nice charts with the colors and number to compare, but I'd say the BW Am eggs are a nice blue with maybe a touch of green color to them. They look different depending on what light you are in. The marans egg was lighter than I hoped for and had spots on it. Not sure if it will stay that was as it was her first egg. My penedesceca eggs are a little darker than it was. Let me go get the camera and post some pics I took of them today..

Nice looking eggs Cassie!

the Marans might keep or loose the spots, mine have varied but you have a real nice base color for a 1st egg. The partridge Penedesececa is outstanding,,,nice sheen on both of them. I think you did a great job with lighting and using the white bowl is a good idea.

the W/Am looks good,,it too will most likely change, and yes different lighting and different "eyes" tend to see the blue/green colors differently in them

Those are very pretty!

I have more eggs coming from the contest. They were shipped today. I have Americauna's Speckled Susex, Marans.(Two varieties) I have never seen a Speckled Susex, wonder what type of egg they lay or how large a bird they are.

Terri O: it was me that said my faverolles beard was a mass of icicles. I was using one of those blue heated dog dished. I rcvd one of those double sided metal 5 gal waterers thats sits on a heated base which I recently switched to. With both of these, the faverolles beard occasionally gets wet and freezes. I am trying to figure out which of these will actually keep from freezing when we hit -20 Sun/Monday. I think for the first time I am going to attach a milkhouse heater to one of the coop walls to help them Sun/Mon/Tues. Still not sure what to do.

I love me some colored eggs. :) Sure miss my Maran eggs, hopefully be back in business by end of summer!

Just unpacked my eggs from Little Ameraucana Mom, eggs look great, nicely wrapped and lots of eggstras! Thanks!
