Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

wow, who knew that driving an hour and a half just to have blood drawn could turn into such a fun day

the clinic we went to in Shawano had a Tractor Supply right across the street! I was like a kid in a candy store! They had all the chickie stuff I could never find and nearly cleaned them out of all the cool poultry mags I knew were out there but could never find.Hubby prommised that since we go right by Shawano every time we have to go to my cancer clinic that we can stop any time I want, Don't think it has anything to do with all the boy stuff they have too

I really like reading about all the hatching/swapping adventures you are all envolved in

totally long day so time to hit the hay. Night night all.
We got our first chickens from Tractor Supply. They were red sex links

Hi ALL!

DrH... Sounds like Kissy is a real "kiss up"

Jim.... Funny your guineas are the ones afraid of the cold, sometimes mine are the only ones out! Glad Ollie is working well for you. He musta' liked his new clothes! PLEASE tell me that that was just an imuture Tom you THOUGHT was a hen!!! They can't really "turn"! I have a hen that likes to display now and then and it makes me nervous! All of them were from the same hatch and 2 are very much Toms and there are 3 hens....I hope. BTW... how old 'till they lay? Good news is that "rootbeer" should be fat free... Bad news it has lots of calories in the form of carbs.

(even w/diet soda)

OH TO! What a mess to come home to after a long hard day!

Casie... Love the egg colors! I hope to get a nice dark layer this year!

vicki got a new toy store! LOL I got my Gold Comets from there. Our store doesn't seem to carry many breeds. They were OK but I think I would rather get chicks from a breeder.

Had this for a few days, forgot to post it....

JIM..... I'm Trying!!!!

I posed it twice... wanted and Farm&Garden.... guess we can do a chicken train if we get a hit!

That's it for me.... Night all!

That was very nice of you to do Cindy for a crunchy old codger like Jim ;)

You do realize I'm trying hard not to hatch a bunch of chicks this year. I want broody hens to do it for me! No fuss, no muss, and new babies to keep! However, IF I do hatch any (shut up CC I know what you're thinking lol) I want to wait until its warmer and I can set up the brooder in the garage or outside. The mess I left from last years brooding marathon (6-7 months!) was awful. And my good hubby just cleaned the majority up because he moved his office to my chicken room in the basement.

We are setting up a tv room/play room in our unfinished basement. The current playroom will be Halden's therapy room most of the time, so we have to find a place to put the other loud monsters! My DH moved his office area out of there for the kids. He went and took up half of my half of the basement which was my chicken room. Just think of all those poor chicks that want me to hatch them and now I can't! Too little space to brood tons of chicks. Oh we'll, I'll find a way... ;-D

Can I please ask for your well wishes and prayers for this morning? I have a job interview. I have to go back to work part time because of Halden and his therapy. This job gives full benefits at half time and would really help my family out, but still let me be home for all his therapy. I've never wanted or needed a job so bad. I'm hoping if enough people send thoughts and prayers God will finally cut me a small break here. Can't hurt to ask a little help from friends, right?

Hey CC... Get separating for pure eggs. Pretty soon Matilda will actually stick with her broodiness and then I'm coming to you for beautiful chick-making-eggs! Some Stella's, some Lavs, and a few Hershey eggs please! What I can't fit under momma I can always incubate, then slip under her with the ones she hatched. But I've seen Terri and Cindy birds do 14 chicks, so may be mine can too!

Have a great day all!

well, it's January in the north,,,flipping cold

my thoughts are with you today bigfam,,,hope this all works out for you

today I grease the roosters comb, not sure how this is gonna work out, I don't handle this BCM guy and he is gonna be a challenge I'm sure, I know vaseline is the choice, anyone ever use Nu-Stock for this?

as long as I'm messing with him I think I might as well move some of the girls around to selected pens/coops,, no chickens outside for the next week with the weather. A bit warmer tomorrow but "mixed" precip,,,I don't want wet birds going into Sunday

delish, thanks for the offer on the possible SS roo but I decline, I'm adding White Chanteclers this year and don't have space or desire to mess with anymore breeds

bbl, time to bundle up and do morning chores

Remember that luck is where preparation meets opportunity. Today is the opportunity and your preparation is your life. Be yourself, the brave person that chases all those kids and runs in races, handles your animals, and presses on. Be brave!

Good Balmy Morning! It's gonna feel that way soon. Bf4me nothin but positive vibes your way! Sounds like the perfect job for your situation. Like JJ says You Can Do It! Dan noticed some freezer burn on Babykins comb yesterday. I'm using bag balm. Cindy she knows how to flaunt her cuteness. Dang females! If you find a roo for Jim we could be a huge help in that train! Trips there happen about once a month. Saw the egg buying comin. Chad WELCOME and you better move your surrounded by some seriously ill people.

Vic have to agree with Jim from what I've heard it's buyer beware from TSC not always as advertised. So you found a new place to spend money and consider it a good thing?
gig.gif
TO just remember your turn is coming. Reminded me of an old SNL skit of using a rolled up newspaper to train elders. CasieD congrats on the new layers!

Jim glad the Ollie is running like it should. All that work and $ payed off. It's that time of year where I start thinking of either digging a pond in the front yard or plowing, discing, and planting something out there.

A tractor is a terrible thing to waste!

I do not have a Bar Rock pure bred.
I have a pencel Rock cross you can have.
He is young and produces nice chicks. I can post pics of his chicks. They have nice baring on all the chicks.
He is huge. I have posed his pic before.
Just let me know.

Those are very pretty!

I have more eggs coming from the contest. They were shipped today. I have Americauna's Speckled Susex, Marans.(Two varieties) I have never seen a Speckled Susex, wonder what type of egg they lay or how large a bird they are.
I have a couple speckled sussex. Mine just lay light brown eggs and are usually a nice size. They seem to be very friendly, VERY curious:), seem to like to be pet and one of mine is quite vocal, she kinda purrs and chatters away. I find her very entertaining. They are a moderate size bird, maybe not qutie as "fluffy" as my Orpingtons.
