Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

TA: Nice hoop house Cassie! My friends did that too. Did you have to heat the PVC to bend it? I thought about doing that over my raised bed salad garden so I could grow the tortoises food for a longer time.
TO - Nope, no need to heat it at all. It really is that flexible when it's full length like that.

We do not go to the local dentist, we travel 1/2 an hour away to see the dentist. A PITA but he is a good guy and does a good job so I do not mind. He has seen all the kids their entire lives so it is fun for the office ladies to see how the kids have grown.

Taking the two dogs and the three cats to the vet all at once saves a little on the $$$$$. Had bloodwork done on the oldest dog and the one cat that has been losing weight. Everyone is doing well, no issues except the normal weight loss due to their ages.

Was happy with the bill too.

Watching Survivorman with the kids. Love Les Stroud!

Evening All.... hope you got a fair price for the almost new saw Doc? I almost cut some wood today, but decided it can wait. Dead trees aren't going anywhere, and I felt lazy.

Yep, Suzie said it's the mint eucalyptus now that you mention it bl4.

The store in town is having a meat sale...whole pork butts for 1.69 lb...7 to 9 lb average. Think I'll pick one up and cut into steaks and roasts. I'm getting hungry for pork steak and sauerkraut again.

Stay Warm.... bigz

tried to post earlier but my dsl is acting up again, grrrrrr. anyway, as you all know I already have a small greenhouse that the girls have taken over for the winter as their personal playhouse and dustbath. I have plans on building them their own greenhouse in their run this spring so I can reclaim mine. I will be interested in hearing everyone's ideas on how to build one, preferably from scraps or macguiver style.

You guys are getting wayyyyyy tooo funny lately for me to keep up so I am just sitting back, lurking and laughing, a lot!

Road trip for bloodwork tomorrow, whoopee. Glad I don't have to see my doc. I hate getting yelled at and since my face is still so swollen and red I look like a some bazaar tomato.............................. (the "skid marks" have healed but the accident triggered fluid retention so now in the a.m. when I wake up I can't even get my eyes open until 10 min. w/ an ice pack) anyway, very funny but not pretty. Only have to go to Shawano to their lab so at least we don't have to drive all the way to Greenbay however hubby wants to stop @ Menominee BUT I am not about to let anyone see this face that doesn't absolutely have too!!!!!!!!!!

Supposed to be a high of -10 next Monday and pretty darn nasty all week. Trying to figure out what I can do to get them ready this weekend.
Anyone know which does better in sub zero weather: the heated plastic dog dish waterer or the double wall metal waterer that sits on the heated base?
Anyone else have faverolles? And have problems with golf ball size icicles on their muffs? Last night has Elsie in the house blow drying her muff to get the chunks of ice off :-( Poor baby...and tonight nothing-all fluffy again.

Terri O: I think that would be a great idea-along with a sign up of going/what your bringing to the chicken bash-a list of chicks/chickens available!!! (I only want one or two EE's LOL). What are OEs?

BBP: Your thigh not fitting thru your basement windown my a@@!! Your about two inches wide!!!!! You could go in sideways with room to spare!!!

OE= Old English game birds ( I think)

TO, you can bend PVC quite a bit before you have issues. I would think that if you are VERY careful you can bend one for a greenhouse hoop. I know I have seen plans on the web for them and I believe in Mother Earth News too.

After watching so many issues of survivorman, I have come to the conclusion that you should never go anywhere without a multi-tool, something to start a fire with, fishing hooks, and a hat.

Later!

Unk.... sorry about your crooked rod, heard it's a common problem with older men.

SO glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that!

Good one, Cind!

DrH, loved your story. Those darn saucers will cause all sorts of great bodily harm for sure. And yet we all lived to tell about it.

Twiz! Glad to see you back. Good luck on your hatch.

Ang, the heated dog dishes get too mucked up too fast for me, or get emptied too fast. But I found a plastic 1 gallon waterer fits perfectly inside the metal heated dog dish and actually stays clean for a whole day. And it does manage to stay completely thawed even in the nastiest temps. I never had any freezing issues when I used a metal waterer on a heated base until I went to a bigger waterer. Now it does tend to freeze slightly, but never enough that they couldn't get water. I guess I'd recommend, if you have to choose between the two, to go with the metal waterer & heated base, unless you could find a plastic waterer that fits in your plastic dish. But I'd go with what you already have. HTH

I always thought OEGB were Old English Game Birds too.

Not sure about just OE?

We've had an egg increase here too. Went from 3 a day to 6-7. Must have been the warmer temps. Wonder what's in store for next week? Think the girls just might go on strike. And they'd for sure never forgive us if they had to go outside in order to eat. They'd probably look like a bunch of OEGBs.

Sweet dreams, all!

one more post before bed time..

If it is warm, you can practically tie a knot with 1/2 inch pvc..

the plans I had for a hoop garden used 5 foot lengths over a 3 foot wide row.. there is a way to make inexpensive clamps out of wood and an old bicycle inner tube.... they look similar to clothes pins..

I think I lost the plans when I transferred my junk into my new computer.. I will do a search..

I have asked an expert this question, and now I am asking you all..
has anybody here grown spray millet ? Annie wants to try growing her own for the cockatiels..
