Just checked what swaps I have coming in the spring: lemon cuckoo orpingtons and silver penciled Plymouth rocks. I know nothing about Plymouth rocks. But the guy really wanted some wheatens, so I said ok to them.

Just thinking I may have to propose pure bred egg swap within his thread...

But not until spring... I have pure Wheaten Marans (blue and standard) from Bev Davis. They will be one in March and prime for egg swapping

I have a wheaten amer. pair and maybe a cukoo marans trio that should have some swapable eggs by then.

Good crappy evening...I just spent the last 3 hours cleaning 3 chickens and a guinea and treating my ONLY female turkey. My hands are pruney from having them in and out of the water so much. One of the dogs was left outside for an hour or so and man did she have fun! THis is the same dog that goes outside with me to do chores and doesnt do anything to the chickens but lay down and watch them. I guess she didnt have that reserve when I wasnt present. She got two of my good laying hens. They had a ton of little eggs in them ready to be put in the shell. The guinea that she got was the new one I got (of course) and the other bird was a meatie that I think died of a heart attack. He dressed out at 3.94 pounds skinned with the wings off. He was having none of the plucking part! So they are probably about 4.5 pounds, it was not the biggest one.
THis whole thing just makes me just sick! I dont mind butchering birds when it needs to be done but that is certainly NOT the proper method. I hope I found them all...it was getting dark when I went outside. I would hate for them to be wasted...

So I just had to relay that wonderful information...nothing much else going on here except that the temp is dropping like a rock. I had to chuckle at the leader for the news at 10; "A report on how to deal with these hazardous temps we are experiencing." Duh--stay in unless you HAVE to go out...like us that have chickens and other animals to deal with!

Well tomorrow I am going to try and get this house back in order. The people brought home so many groceries and they are all over the table and counters and overfilling the refrigerator! Of course it's all junk food...I have no place to store that much junk! Sheesh--maybe I will just go shopping instead. I wish Menards had my shelves in...then maybe I could have a place for some of this stuff!

Well, I only feel like complaining tonight so I guess I will sign off! Nobody likes a complainer! I think I need to go to bed and read...

So sorry to hear about your birds, Terri!

That really stinks.

On the slightly brighter side, the one good thing about the temps falling is, if you did miss a bird, it'll probably get frozen. If something doesn't find it. But even if it does, better they make a meal out of a dead bird than a live one, eh? So sorry.
