Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Here's a question for all you Cat owners.

how often does a cat need a rabies shot?

Our cat was a rescue of sorts, we found him while camping.

He is an adult and received a rabies shot when we had him fixed. when will he need the next one?

And where is the cheapest place?

BBP, Oh to be a skinny teenager again.. right now I am more than twice the man I was when I graduated..

I once saw a horse kick a beagle sized dog.. the dog went about 15 feet high and flew farther than the barn was wide.. (30 feet) the dog merely picked himself up and acted like ,, "oh, that didn't hurt I'm fine, I'm fine" ..

the dogs dragged the scull of their deer home today.. It looks like it was a doe.. no horns or nubs.. yeah,, and no hide nor meat either..

I think I will be building that breeder pen before the snow melts.. I have turkeys laying eggs and I think the peahens might start early this year, too..

My add-on project will be to make some nice big nesting boxes for these big birds.. that is something I can start anytime, now..

I was going to buy 2 x 4's for the framing part of the pens,, but then I remembered, I have a whole trailer full of cedar 2 x 10"s I can rip some of those down to 2x4's.. no cost in that..

Now I wish I had nothing on the big trailer.. I liked that for a work bench when I built the dog/guinea coop..

BBP: Very true....this was when Mickey was jsut a baby-shes still seems like a lil baby LOL and kinda gets picked on-yells whenever anyone even looks at her and runs to me/flys up to me to be held. She isn't much bigger but has filled out beautifully. Love this lil chicken!!!

Just spent some time watching the little peeps for awhile. They are so funny...all their personalities are showing. The other half asked what I was doing....obviously not a chicken person. They come running over when they see me. Funny how some of the same ones will come by you all the time and some are standoffish. Kinda like cats. Definitely need a bigger brooder. So tomorrow's project.
Was reading how this one person raises their baby ducks in one their bathtub. I could never get away with it.
Ang....cute of Mickey. You definitely have some funny stories about your birds...

Watched the new episode of Too Cute with DD6. It was on baby potbelly pigs....super cute. Bunnies and hedgehogs....they were cute too..I'm just partial to pigs.

Ok..rambling...you all have a good night and everyone be safe driving.....

OM you all are chatty, I leave to spend the weekend with my hubby and come back to pages of posts..........LOL well I'm caught up again
TerriO nice batch of chickens, I would never eat the feet unless of course we were starving then I would at least try them.......... but I agree yucky !!!!, don't think I would even give them to the dogs hehehe
BigZ hope no one fell on your ice rink, I have the same here, and my horses have there ice skates on again because the paddock's are sheets of ice covered with 2 inches of water, I can't even salt it to help.....arggggg I hate this weather.
Though I did get some beautiful pictures though a bit creepy .... other worldly the other morning with that Hoar frost,,,,,,,,When I went out to do chores at 7am, I felt like I woke up on another planet or something, and at first I had to think was I even really awake, it looked like the back ground to a dream I once had.......... it was cool but a tad creepy all at the same time.

Ok anyway, had a nice weekend considering that Adam didn't get home till Friday morning got stuck in some slippery nasty snow just past Wausaw, so he waited it out till 4 am then headed onto Depere dropped his load and headed home. In the mean time I was trying to clean up the zillion drifts and 6 inches of snow we had so he could get the truck in the driveway. I even had to plow our road to the corner because it was drifted shut, and the plow's hadn't yet made it out here, and didn't know if they would b4 he got home. long morning took me 3 hours to clean the mess up............ then about 10 minutes b4 Adam got here the plow came through......... go figure. so anyway thats all thats new here, so if I missed anyone's important info, but I can't remember what I read b4 the uploader made me crazy........ have a great night ya all..Kim

Ang, a great percentage of an egg is protein. Same with feathers. In the wintertime & during molts, I always try to up the protein in my birds diet a bit. There are a lot of different ways you can do this. Meat, fat, eggs, certain well-cooked beans (never raw), BOSS, etc. The key is to do so sparingly (everything in moderation). I have given my birds the leftover turkey carcass after Thanksgiving and they will have it picked clean by lock up time. I also save any extra (cooked) skin or fat trimmings from a roast & will mix it in with their mash for the day. I make sure I don't give them any more than they can finish in 15 to 20 minutes, though. I don't want any leftovers attracting uninvited nocturnal guests.

Del, so sorry about the silkie chicks.

Cindy, happy birthday to your DH!

JJ, rabies shots come in 2 strengths: 1 year and 3 year. Since most of my cats are young & just flip when they see the cat carrier come out, I usually opt to get the 3 year rabies & distemper shots.
Check your local shelter to see if they have any "barn cat" clinics coming up. I know the Milwaukee shelter had one coming up, but I have no idea when exactly. And Terri just had one by her not too long ago, I think.

Nothing new here, just lots of rain. Hopefully it won't turn to ice overnight. Be safe, all!

TO.... OK, I'm the weirdo.... I would eat chicken feet... I'll try just about anything and people might be surprised what can be good if it's cooked right. We waste too much now days.

Jim.... hope that new Tom does his job for you!

delish.... sorry your silky hatch didn't do well.

BBP.... Man is your dog lucky!!! Keep a good eye on him in case he has internal damage.

to the dog.

GR.... Welcome to Wisconsin!!! LOL

Angie..... My birds get left overs and scraps all the time. When the weather is warm they get little fat, but I save it so in the winter and it's extra cold they can have the extra fat then. Extra calories to keep warm.

Wow has the wind picked up! Rained all day here and turned everything to ice with a layer of water on top! Thought DH was going to go boom trying to get from the car to the house! The deck and ramp are very slippery but I didn't want to put anything down until the rain stopped. No sense in letting it wash away. I found at least one place the girls were hiding eggs! Guess it's time to give them new nest digs. Seems like every few months they get bored with the nests and look for other places.

The angle food cakes came out well. I never made one using a KithcenAid stand mixer before so the first one got a little over whipped but was OK. The second one was better. Guess I make a fairly good angle food, got some fair ribbons for them when I was younger

Think how good they would have been with "real eggs"! LOL
Guess that's it.... Night All!

Hi... Had a coughing fit that woke me up so here I am!

I've still got 2 broody girls. I got quite a shock when I picked the white silkie up to get her to eat. (My waterer freezes so when I bring the fresh water out, I make sure she comes out once before it freezes again). Her belly and chest featherless and black. So strange to see! I know silkies have black skin, but seeing it is weird. She's really doing it. She us stuck to those eggs. She won't even be a year till June! My wheaten broody is a year in March. But I didn't expect my Marans to go broody. Kinda fun! My new fear is the guineas killing the chicks. They stay in the coop with the flock. They terrorize any bird. The chicks born at the end of Oct all typically huddle under the nesting box because if they venture out with a guinea there, they're getting picked at. Even the roosters are terrified of them! What's going to happen with chicks? Anybody have experience in this?

Oh and a few weeks ago the Today show had Joy Bauer in Tori Spelling house looking at her fridge. Healthy versus unhealthy food. Well during the interview they show tori has a few chickens in her backyard (in LA!). Tori points out her silkie to Joy and tells her how she gets green eggs from her. What?! I keep watching and at the end of the interview Tori comes in holding her white silkie and gives Joy an egg. "She just layed it." Full size light green egg. Uuummm yeah sure she did... Idiot. Either Tori Spelling is dumb as a box of rocks, or she lied on camera to talk up her silkie. Either way I was annoyed...

AND today is the big day. I start my new job. I am nervous of course. I haven't worked a regular scheduled job for 9 years!!! I would pick up shifts and fill in during that time, but it was sporadic. For the next month I'll be in training M-F 6-8 hrs. Kind of a shock to the system! I'm dreadfully afraid I won't be able to learn everything. But I need to keep a positive attitude ( yes CC... I know... Good luck with that ). I also have to curb the personality a bit for that time. I gotta know people a bit before I let it all hang out. Are you guys thrilled we're already to that point?!

I better send this before I lose it all...
