Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I believe I just scored a free chicken tractor - only used one year for a homeschool project! Waiting for the hubs to get home and put the trailer on the car so we can go get it!

Whoo hooo! I hope it is nice! Free stuff is wonderful.
Deb--great that you "found" the time to stop in! I am glad that you are planning on staying here...even if it is cold! LOL! That could be a good idea to rent some land...maybe you can pay the rent with eggs?

I just dropped off my horse forms and County Fair forms for my 4H club. It is raining here and it is making me so sleepy. I am thinking about taking a nap. No kids today so I can!

Tacos for supper...I dont feel like cooking! Yes, I am going to take a little nap...TerriO

Morning all had a long tiring weekend, been cleaning the yard cuz it finally dried out enough to do so, now if my horses field would get too it maybe I will eventually get that cleaned as well..........
Well my 11 eggs are hatching I have 3 still in the shell, 1 I can clearly see the pip the other 2 NO unless its on the bottom, the 1 is taking its sweet old time coming out been pipped since yesterday morning, and still no further, its a BR/Dell cross from Daphne , and her shells seem to be extremely hard, maybe that is the problem....... or just a weak chick, not sure but its still breathing...... so I have 8 out and 3 to go, I was really worried about the humidity because in the little mini I could clearly see its was plenty high it was dripping down the sides, not so in this one , the 20, but it must be fine or 8 would not have made it out.. I hope my first hatched don't die of thirst b4 the last ones hatch..sheesh they seem to be slow lazy fluff butts this time.......
TerriO I must have missed what you wrote about the chicks could you pm me or re post it.......... sometimes if I'm busy i read fast and miss stuff......

Jim dear where the h e double toothpicks are you ??? Your worrying me....... or working too dam hard, I did see ya lurking last night or night b4, when Adam was reading to catch up....question for our resident hatch master, how long can these chicks go without food and water while the last 3 hatch?????? 3 days right?.
Speaking of Adam more problems this week with his dispatcher, he rolled in late Saturday night and she wanted to send his butt back out yesterday at noon..... he told her no, he did not have enough time on his week so she sicked the boss on his butt, until the weekend dispatcher caught that he had no reset and only about 10 hours on his clock, wish I understood how he even had that !!! to my calculations on a 14 hour clock he had already put in 84 hours in 6 days.......... I'm very confused and even more pissy trying to figure out why she is riding him like a rodeo bronc all the time he has run 2400 to 2700 miles every week since forever......... not sure what she wants from him or what we aren't getting?????????? plus he was broke down Monday, and had a bad tire on his pickup trailer Tuesday which only only cost 13 hours total, and somehow that was his fault????? wish she would call me so I could figure it out and relate it back to Adam cuz he's as confused and frustrated as I am..... literally when she was trying to make him go back out after 1 night I wanted to choke the snot right outa her...... I hate this job and this dispatcher, the weekend dispatch seemed nice when she told him about the load change and then he left out for Lake Forrest at 3 am this morning after his reset rolled out.... so not sure what we should do suck up her **** or just find him a another place to work..... he is also worried that they lied to him about the rider policy........... GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I'm gonna kill her I swear Just talked to Adam, he's in Russel Il, at hius fuel stop, across the Quallcomm comes his new pickup in Waupaca, for 2 pm today already 2 hours behind, and Adam has 2 hours drive time to make it to a Neenah stop, and run to Waupaca to get the new load to Homer Michigan, due there tomorrow??????????????? *** IS THIS WITCH TRYING TO PULL..... IS SHE TRYING TO GET HIM FIRED OR IS SHE JUST STUPID.....???? I swear I'm gonna scream or beat her to a bloody pulp..........so he's rolling out his last 2 hours and will try calling her again when he gets to the rest stop.... he did get his old dispatch lady Georgia, who doesn't understand what she is doing either????????? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr so anyway I'm too crabby to continue, will try to get back later with hubby and chick progress......... have a good day peeps....... Kim

I found my turkey hen!!!!
ya.gif
Looked all around our 1 1/2 acres.... looked over at the neighbors. Beat the brush, scanned the trees, moved pallets and other stuff looking for her. She was about 2 ft. from my bedroom window!!!! I got a bit scared when I first saw her, she was down but I didn't see her head! I called her and out popped her head from under a wing. She's on about a dozen eggs! The only thing is, the "nest" is on about egg size stones and it's near where the sump pump pumps out. There is a hose running the water to the back, but it was off a few days ago so I don't know if the eggs got wet. Kinda nice where she is because there is house on 2 sides and I can put a fence on the other 2 sides for a pen.

TO.... My your poor luck does come in waves! Hope you catch the critter!

dkv.... good to see you!

irish.... nice score!

Catch you all later!

Hi All,

Dooner.... Much as we who free range hate to loose any of our flock, I think most of us accept we may loose one, but all and all they are happier. We just do what we can to keep them safe in the area they range.

Judge... I've moved all the broody's. I Just get the area ready I want them to be in, making a nice little nest. Pick her up and tuck her under one arm,( they usually squawk but don't fight much) then scoop up the eggs and put them in a basket. Bring them to the new place, put the eggs in the new nest and put her down in the nest, and she'll settle right down. If they're truly broody they don't care much where they are as long as they have eggs! I even moved one a few days from hatch and she did fine. Cool on the new mini coop! I have a friend that raises chickens in Hawaii. He says the ones that free range go off into the jungle away from the flock and in about a month come back with chicks in tow. Even then they stay on the outskirts of the flock for a few weeks.

Bl4.... glad you had a good day and you got to spend time with the ducks and family!

Now that we are talking about "uncommon" (at least now days) foods, I really got to make a trip to Antioch or Lake Geneva to a butcher shop. I tried to get tongue in town but no luck. I could have it special ordered, but it would probably cost more. I wish I could get hold of a nice rabbit. We haven't had hasenpfeffer (yes, I looked up the spelling) for years! I love it but DH would rather have sauerbraten. I often wondered if you could make sauerbraten with tongue? It's really too bad that people have become so snotty about what parts they eat. Seems like we waste an awful amount. But then, chicken wings were a "scrap meat" going for .49 a lb. than someone decided they would make cheap bar food, now look what happen! Even lobsters were pig food at one time. Ribs were left for the slaves and look what they did with them!!!

Still haven't found the turkey hen.

No feathers either. Maybe she found a place to hide and brood. She was trying when the skunk showed up! All we caught in the trap so far was a chicken! LOL

OK....night all!
So do you make the hasenpfeffer the original way with the blood for a thickener? I know someone who has extra meat rabbits

Evening To Everyone...I catch up on the reading and forget what i wanted to post....a little old age maybe?

I have a quarter of grass fed beef coming in the next couple weeks. I'll save the tounge for you Cind if you want...i ordered the heart, liver and tounge. Farmer said nobody wants that stuff anymore
hmm.png

That sounds delish bl4...you are right, i woulda had my fair share. I'll have to try that for sure. Good to hear it doesn't turn out tuff. I take the heart, liver and gizzard and cook them for the hens...they love it gone in nano seconds. We cut it up in small pieces for the spoiled girls.

Hope I can get caught up enough to be able to get after the white bass next month. It's always so busy about the time they are snapping. My boat is feeling neglected for sure.

Have fun...bigz
