I found my turkey hen!!!!

Looked all around our 1 1/2 acres.... looked over at the neighbors. Beat the brush, scanned the trees, moved pallets and other stuff looking for her. She was about 2 ft. from my bedroom window!!!! I got a bit scared when I first saw her, she was down but I didn't see her head! I called her and out popped her head from under a wing. She's on about a dozen eggs! The only thing is, the "nest" is on about egg size stones and it's near where the sump pump pumps out. There is a hose running the water to the back, but it was off a few days ago so I don't know if the eggs got wet. Kinda nice where she is because there is house on 2 sides and I can put a fence on the other 2 sides for a pen.

TO.... My your poor luck does come in waves! Hope you catch the critter!

They are growing sooooo fast!! Too cute I had a friend over tonight to check them out. She commented on how big baby roo's head was lol. I took that as a good sign to how he will grow up
Stinking dogs took off to the marsh tonight. $#! T $ all had a bath and are not feeling too happy! Can't get that fence up fast enough! No amount of training keeps that darn hound dog home. Hell be fine for days. Then... bam! Hes on the go.
I must be one of the pickiest eaters. I dont think I could even make myself try any of the things you guys have discussed today!

Evening To Everyone...I catch up on the reading and forget what i wanted to post....a little old age maybe?

I have a quarter of grass fed beef coming in the next couple weeks. I'll save the tounge for you Cind if you want...i ordered the heart, liver and tounge. Farmer said nobody wants that stuff anymore

That sounds delish bl4...you are right, i woulda had my fair share. I'll have to try that for sure. Good to hear it doesn't turn out tuff. I take the heart, liver and gizzard and cook them for the hens...they love it gone in nano seconds. We cut it up in small pieces for the spoiled girls.

Hope I can get caught up enough to be able to get after the white bass next month. It's always so busy about the time they are snapping. My boat is feeling neglected for sure.

I always get the tongue, heart and liver. My dad make summer sausage with it. If I have any and I make it to the bash I can bring some too for anyone who can use it.

Keep the patchouli far away from me! It gives me violent headaches! (Put it with the brussels sprouts!!)

BL4 if you bring Patchouli soap for Dooner wrap it tight! I hate that smell since that was the only scent I made in my one attempt at soap. Gave it all to a (Hippy) friend and she LOVED it! My entire bathroom closet smelled like that for years.

Thank you for saying that, Irish & Terri! That is one scent that just makes me want to do a Derek.

Outdoor chicks are all heat lampless as if last night. Tonight was horse barn night. .man I am sore...after stopping at delishas to pick up eggs I got home and checked on em all. The littles were huddled together under the roosts so I picked em all up onto the roost. They were scared and confused of course and Mr. Gibs was mounting them which didn't help. The black ameruca na was chirping and cold so I put him up at the top with the three orps. They all quieted down and went to sleep.

YAY Cind! I'm very happy for you!

We picked up the free chicken tractor this evening and it really was a good find. One of the wheels is a bit bent up and it needs a little tweaking but overall it's in good shape. A coat of paint will look nice so when I'm painting the barn I'll catch it, too. (The barn is an unfortunate shade of pink with ucky blue trim right now. Can't wait until it dries up and warms up long enough to spray it!) I also got some free "schmidt" inside to clean out!

Hi All!

H&R.... I have only done the blood gravy twice. Most of the rabbit I have gotten hasn't been fresh at home butchered. The vinegar and spices in the soak/brine give it the flavor anyway.

BigZ... If you really don't want the tongue, sure!

All kinds of things you can do with tongue! Tongue makes great Tacos too! People forget.... IT'S JUST MEAT! It's a muscle, like any other! It's a bit tough, but you just got to cook it right. Either slow and low or pressure cooked. You give hearts and gizzards to the hens? That's another thing I use the pressure cooker for... gizzards and gravy!

And just so you don't think I'm weird and will eat the whole beast, I do not like liver! Don't know why, I just don't.

Amy... Hide in plain sight is right! I was looking in the bush not 8' away but didn't stick my head around the corner! She was right there in plain view!

Well, I now have 1 broody Turkey by the house, 1 in the chicken coop, and 1 by the straw where the chicken hens lay

The poor Toms are wondering around "lost" LOL The one has taken to fallowing me around, fallowed me right into the house today!

I also have the broody chicken ready to hatch hers out this weekend! Now another hen went broody! I'm surprised Jasmine hasn't gone broody again. She tried in Feb. maybe too soon to go again.

Well, better get dishes done... Night All!

Good morning all!
CIndy- glad you found your turkey!
Getting excited. I might actually hatch put a chantecler. I was so worried last night because 1 of the 2 eggs that I was expecting to hatch pipped the wrong end. But this morning it is almost all the way zipped. Yay!!! Now one more to go. I could hear it tapping away last night , but no pip yet. Keeping my fingers crossed

Had a nice thunderstorm, oh wait- the chick just hatched! I have been waiting for a chantecer for a long time. It's little butt is still stuck in the shell, so hopefully he shakes it free.
Hope you all enjoy the weather. Up to 80 here today, but maybe some strong storms? I can take a good storm as long as there is no damage, and the power doesn't go out!
