Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well my suspicions were confirmed this morning. My chanteclers are egg eaters. They were both in the same nest box with a broken egg, and yolk all over their guilty, snow white faces. Darn it.

Good morning all!
I was rudely awakened by a horn this morning! Thinking that because it was still raining my geese were on the road; I stumbled downstairs only to see a man standing in my yard! Sheesh, it was the guy coming to buy a goat at 6:45AM!

So I had to get my coveralls on and catch her up for him. THey had the kids along and I sold them 2 pigeons too. Then the woman wanted a rooster so I basically GAVE her the Black Austrolorpe I had saved back for breeding this year. He turned out to be a "BBB". (big black b@stard) So I was not sad to see him go but really wanted more than $5 for him! THis guy is a pretty good customer though....and I am not sad that I dont have to watch my back when I go into that pen! So that was my morning....and I am tired and the coffee is gone. I think I will be making another pot for sure.

I decided to do chores while I was waiting for Behn to do his "culture thing" and his little boys "helped" me. I was sad to find my best buckeye hen dead inside the pen. No sign of anything just dead! She was a good weight too. I have no idea what happened...maybe a heart attack though she was only 3 or so. Good thing I have a lot of eggs collected. I am setting them today...but I am very worried that they wont hatch in time for the bash....yeah wasnt someone talking about last minute? I think we might be bringing them along in egg form! (maybe I can turn the bator up a few degrees and grow them fast?) LOL!

Judge they might not be egg eaters. You might have just had a softshelled one that broke and they were being opportunistic feeders (kinda like skunks

) OMG--did I just SAY that?????
You could try putting them in a separate cage to see if they really are.

Psycho that is pretty early to get up to go to a swap...you must be real excited! I think it is a smart decision to set up BEFORE purchasing. Everything seems to go a little better when done in the correct order! I think it's funny that Cind was probably just getting in her Jammies and you were walking out of the house. And BL4 was just getting up! LOL--we are a crazy bunch for sure.

OK--I need to make PIE---I have to find out where the strawberries went or I have to go to the store and get more.
Have a great day>>>I sure hope it gets light out again soon! Where is the forcasted sunshine anyhow? TErriO

Cccoollld today no baby chick outings this weekend! Rode the ponies at 7:30 with a hat, turtleneck, sweatshirt and a coat! Lucky us, we have 2!!! Baseball games to sit through today with this wind, should be a good time for everyone !!!! Batters, pitchers and Audience alike!

BigFam, you are a very strong lady and Halden is a very lucky boy to have you. I am blessed with 4 healthy children, our last there was some concern during pregnancy, I learned then that Although I am sure we would have dealt with whatever came our way, I don't think I would have taken it well. I totally get your piece at a time acceptance. God has given you a special child and you will do and are doing a great job.

Well time to put on the layers to attend a so called summer sport:)

Just out of curiosity, does anyone maybe want to trade for some 3/4 phoenix hatching eggs? I want some hatching eggs to add variety to my flock. We have 3 in the bator from the pair and all 3 are developing.

These are the last summer. The roo has RIR in him, but the hens are pure silver phoenix's. His tail is longer now. I'm in stoughton :p

I will be rehoming some birds before winter if you need some. I also have a Roo you can have he is a good flock protector here, but he is an extra mutt.

Oh Zeke, that is my nightmare!!!! Fortunately, I guess, we had seen ermine near the house before in winter and our neighbors had lost a couple hens to weasels just before we built our coop so I was especially paranoid not having even the tiniest cracks.

So sorry for everyone's losses. :hugs
