Got up at 5 am this morning so we could load the birds and the stuff we needed to be a Portage by 7 am to check the birds in. Not to bad to get in there and get set up-seemed like most people were checking in and getting ready. Looked around a bit and then went back home-we are about 40 minutes away and wanted to make the most of the nice day to work on the new coop and watch the Badger game! Besides it would have been to long of a day for all the kids-it's a smaller show but very nicely done! Did walk thorugh the sale area and didn't see any quail like you were looking for Terry O and didn't see any Black Cooper Marans in that area either. Saw some nice Marans in the open class- friends of ours from 4-H were showing in open and 2 of their birds ended up on Championship row! Went back to listen to the junior award show so that we could see what they did for that. We will be back up there mid morning so we can watch some of the doings and pick up our birds!

So DD took 3 birds to show: her Blue Andalusian that won at the fair- here she got 1st and BV and BB; Roo the Partridge Cochin Bantam that went to fair-he got a 1st; and then one of the Partridge Cochin Bantam pullets(this one did't go to fair, she let her brother take that one) which received 2nd and RB!

DS took 3 birds to show: the sister to the Blue Andalusian and received 2nd and RV and RB; Boo the brother to Roo and received 3rd and then Brownie(she went to the fair) who is the other Partridge Cochin Bantam and received 1st and BV- not bad for his 1st time showing!

Terry O glad to hear that the pups came! Hope all are doing well.

Hope everyone else had a good day, off to pop some popcorn and watch some TV with the kids!

Hi everyone!

Hopefully the flooding isn't to bad for everyone that got hit! We didn't get much here. Our basement always leaks a bit though because our house was built in 1883 and doesn't have the best water resistance in the basement.

We might be getting an incubator soon! I think I will just pay the extra money and buy the hovabator instead of the little giant. Then I can finally get some eggs and hopefully some of the chicken breeds I want!

Also this isn't at all chicken related but I think one of my female Turkish Angoras might be pregnant! YAY kittens! She is my absolute favorite female and I bottle fed her since she was 1 week old, so I can't wait for her to have her first litter! Also we are one the search for a new canine family member. We adopted out our American Bulldog foster puppy and decided that we would like to add another dog to our family. As much as I would love to get a puppy I just know I don't have the time to properly train it when I have to also watch my daughter, so we are looking for an adult already trained dog. We haven't had much luck though because it's near impossible to find a dog that is good with cats, dogs, and young children. My sister works at the local humane society and is going to let me know as soon as something that fits our lifestyle comes in. So wish us luck! Also if anyone knows of a dog that might work for us please let me know!

Well Gothchick--I have 3 dogs here that would fit the bill! The one we have in the house right now is a total sweety and loves our cats too. She will be going to get spayed next week as will her pups. She is from Shelter from the Storm in Madison. You can go to their web site and get pre-approved and then when a dog shows up that you like. Bing, bang, boom! IT's yours! The other shelter that I work with is JR Pup and Stuff I think out of Brookfield. Not sure yet how they get their dogs adopted out...guess I should find out. I have two from them that are still nursing pups so they will be a while. Tons of nice dogs come through so I am sure It wouldnt be too difficult to find one!

Oh did we have a good dinner...everything from the farm! This was the best part by far though:

Cant wait to have another piece with my coffee in the morning! Good night all--gotta run out and close doors etc and hit the rack! Sleep tight! Terri O

Thanks TO I will have to check them out! How do they do there meet and greet policy? I know the shelter here requires you to bring in your current dog to meet the new one before you adopt them. IDK how I would get my dog all the way to Madison. LOL! He barely fits in our cars. I will check their websites and see what they say. Thanks again!

Well it hit me again yesterday/last night....
I am waiting today.. I ate some plain yogurt last night.. BLEH!!! ick hideous run tongue under hot tap water.. bleh bleh bleh!!
I took some FloraJen last night too.. hubby is a little off as well, sour stomach..
We are seriously thinking it was the venison our house mate had processed, it was in a freezer, then dragged past dodgeville to be made into burger meat...
then dragged all the way back up here...
Something, some where went wrong...
There is also a chance.. I had a bad cellulitis/abcess next to my knee for about a week and a half, they put me on three different antibiotics, and told me a
bacteria that waits and lurks, can and may jump into my intestines and I would need ANOTHER antibiotic to treat that...
Gack!!!
I am almost afraid to eat, or drink...
But need coffee!!! whine@!!!!

I imagine that you could get some pretty nasty bugs from ground meat treated like that...especially if you like your burgers like I do (on the rare side) It could have happened during transport of the carcass, the first cleaning, the thawing and grinding or on the way back and forth! Sheesh! Good thing your hubby is also feeling unwell...I was beginning to think that pregnancy might be an epidemic here on the Cheesehead board!

Hope you both are better soon!

Pretty quiet on here for a SUnday! I am taking a little break as dd18 is taking a nap before we go out on a ride. SHe went to visit a friend at St Norbert's on Friday and I dont think they got a lot of sleep! She is pretty crabby...wait until she sees her horse that looks like a unicorn! The burdock must be back in the pasture. I thought I had it gone but I guess not!

No one has said anything about the chickenstock mini-meet at Palmyra the weekend before Halloween weekend...is anyone planning on meeting besides me and FM?

I REALLY need a male button quail now...my little button has decided that she will be one of the rare ones that will sit on eggs! She has a whole clutch that she is sitting on now. It is so funny cause when I reach into the cage she makes a funny noise and opens her beak at me! Yup--I am really scared of that little thing!

Well--I do believe I will go and find something productive to do. Lord knows there are enough things to keep me busy here! Later! Terri O

Doc H our prayers are with you, friend. Here's hoping you guys finally dry out there and get some relief.

Terri O I'm a big cheesecake fanatic, that looks like heaven! I could knock that out in one sitting, I kid you not...sad.

WIchookchick Oh boy you're a hurting unit...I'm putting a prayer out there for you too that you find some comfort and fast relief!

Okay, we picked up six more ameraucana pullets from Wayne Meredith in Mukwanago. One wheaten, one buff, and four blue. It was a stinky ride all the way back to Mequon, but we did have a chance before hand to stop by the Elegant Farmer to get a hayride, get some cider doughnuts and carmel apples and one of their apple pies, which are to die for.

The ameraucanas are now resting comfortably in their new pen I built for them over the weekend, and I'll keep them isolated until I'm sure they're healthy and ready to be integrated.

PS Those Thai Game Fowl look like they were dragged down the road!!!

Sorry I've been bopping in and out so sporadically lately - I haven't quite re-learned how to manage my time wisely being back in school, and still having to deal with the the birds and work. My grandpa was out of town all week, and I was house-sitting, so between taking care of all his animals (his goldfish died on me

) AND all mine, I was staying up until 2:30 every night trying to get everything done. I got two assignments in late.

I was at the show in Portage over the weekend...not exhibiting, with those Indian Runner ducklings getting sick the week before the entry deadline, I just never got around to entering. I should have too - my Black Cochin hen would have placed really well, based on what I saw! I met Black Cochin Bantams there, he had some Columbian Cochins entered, so we talked a LOT about breeding Columbians.

I came home with those Runners I bought a few weeks ago, and a little Black Call drake from duckluck!

Sunday Evening All....nice sunny day here, and I hope the water backed off some for you Doc. The north branch of embarrass by me is way over the banks...looks like spring run off here.
Glad you guys that went to Portage had a fair time.
We have box elder bugs by the k's here. what the hell? It's usually aisian bettles....
idunno.gif

The box elders must of won a war or something....the home defense sprayer pump handle is warm for sure.
No bow hunting either lately....opened the freezer for some venision today....the light is on, and the freezer is dead. Pack the coolers and run to mom's almost empty freezer. Lost a few squash packages...a couple burger packs that bled and are in the fridge for whatever....butcher hat again in the mornin, then off to shawano to purchase a new upright...the one that died is only 20 years old. Sure ain't like the one that is going strong that is over 35 years young.

Enjoy the Evening... ~ bigzio
