Irish, I do think it is possible they are molting. I seem to have feathers EVERYWHERE. And a mild drop in production. Although I do have yet another broody.
But I think yes Dannyboy could be eating them gone. When I make eggs, I scramble a little bit extra and add in the shells. It is good protein. I feed it to the chickies. They eat the shell completely gone. Danny has no reason to go in there. Rae never goes in ours.
If I were you, id direct that camera right at the nesting boxes to find the culprit.

I'm thinking it might be a combination of molting - two or three of them seem to be into it right now - and that sneaky roo! I'm surprised that there is absolutely no evidence of the crime. Of course, I haven't gone in and thoroughly checked all the straw, but I would have thought there would be something he/they missed.
I may move the tractor closer to the window so I can see inside better with the chicken cam.
Between the chickens and the critters in the garden a person could starve here if they were dependent on the raising of food. It looks like the bunnies
we will be there as spectators only. Hoping to learn how it all works.
