SClark, cool pics!

RB, yes this is my first year growing these beans. This is the description from Baker Creek heirloom seeds.

This famous Dutch heirloom bean has an incomparable flavor. The tender and superbly delicious 7-inch pods are yellow, with amazing purple streaks! Also makes a tasty shelled bean. Popular with chefs and gourmets. Compact plants set high yields.

CS, I plan on building the same style habitat you have for your mealworms/beetles. The pill bugs we have had in a fishtank before, but I think I will go the rubbermaid container route, that way the will have space and will not dry out so quickly. The Elodea is a PITA! We have a huge water tank out in the tropical greenhouse and we have some out in there we are trying to keep alive, and I have some in a fishtank. Last year when we were looking all over for the stuff, the fish store that I purchase from is no longer allowed to sell the stuff due to the DNR (apparently it was getting into the water systems). I will look at Petsmart today while I am out shopping. I am trying to convince the profs to do a different procedure for the Osmosis Diffusion lab...... using all of the solutions of varying concentrations and the dialysis tubing takes up a lot of room, time, and $$.... Now I REALLY need to find a way to grow brine shrimp successfully and in large quantities.

Frenchie I work at a University in the Biology department. The cat morgue is a big filing cabinet that contains the cats used for anatomy class.

Well, I better get going or I am never going to get those tanks cleaned....
We do a lab like that too!
I do work at two places Frenchie, I work at UW-Fox in Menasha and the Chemical Co. in Oshkosh. I started back at Fox this week since the semester begins next Tuesday. I am only an LTE (Limited Term Employee) at Fox...... I find it funny that I have been an LTE for 6 years....... of course they want to hire me full time but cannot (creating positions at Universities is difficult). I suppose I should bite the bullet and get my Masters in Biology so I can Teach instead of do the grunt work..... it would be great if I could get the UW to pay for it though!
Carthage does the same LTE process, but if you can get a job through UW wouldn't it pay for your Masters? Carthage also has a tuition reimbursement for staff and faculty. Does UW-Fox have that?
Hi all,
Ugh lost a chicken today. Not sure what happened. She was just outside one of the nesting boxes a broody was in. Maybe heat?Terri, no I had made spicy pickled veggies and jalapeno bread and butter pickles. The spicy veggies have carrots, cucumbers. Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, peppers, beans and onions. If you want the recipe I can give it to you? I made kosher dills tonight. Never made this recipe before but I wanted to try something different. W had been using the pickle recipe my mom has made forever and wanted to see if I liked something different. Anyone know what makes a dill pickle kosher? I know what kosher means as far as religion but I didn't really see that the pickles were made anyway special My two nephews twelve and nine are spending the night. My sister has ben dealing with severe migraines since the weekend. Tomorrow I
go see my great nephew. It seems like my family is prone to having boys!
Tomorrow the contractor is coming so we can finally get going with the kitchen remodel. So exciting!
Good night
Kosher salt
I had my youngest daughter on a day when the heat index was 115*, the summer of '99 was a scorcher. I had three in the summer, the only one I was puffy with was the first. Amy get more protein into your system!

School open house was tonight...... always an ordeal. Thankfully I only have so many more to go to.

Took tomorrow off from work so I can go purchase school supplies. Yes I know I should have had them by now but I have been so busy and there is SO much going on......

Beautiful pics! I want to see pics of those Choc Orps in the sunshine!

I forgot to add that today was the last day with our intern..... he is such a good kid, I will miss him a lot! He is going to go far and do many great things.

Yea...he's coming back to me!!!

Well, I am waiting for those eggs to hatch. I go out and open the nest box door to check every day, but at this point I'm not moving the hens at all. I just stick my ear close to listen for peeps and I pet the hens backs. The eggs are due earliest by the 31st.

Sorry for all of the sick animals and Moose and Latte.

Amyable-safe passage to you over the next few days! Thanks for sending out the comfrey. I haven't received it yet, but can't wait!

Judge-I'd also like the recipe for your spicy veggie mix and jalepeno pickles.

Well, we haven't had ANY rain at all. We are supposed to have some over the weekend and MAN we need it.

Good night everyone!

Looks like all of the storms are going to miss us Irish (d@mn)..... I was hoping for some good damage that would prevent me from getting into Oshkosh tomorrow.

Did the Back to school shopping today.... it pays to wait! Everything was on clearance at FF!

It also helps that ALL the kids are out of Elementary School. No more piddly things like markers, crayons, erasers, pencil boxes, glue, etc...... just notebooks, folders and pens and pencils.

Night all! Enjoy the storms!

And you don't have to write their name on every little thing either!

CS- I will pm you the recipes. Anyone else? Sitting on the porch waiting for my kitchen floor to dry. I decided to scrub it while the kids are sleeping. It was disgusting from all the canning. I did twelve pints of tomatoes today. Tomorrow chow chow. I never made
that before so we will see.
I think I found some duck eggs today. They seemed to have a different shell than chicken eggs. Smoother and hard to crack. Is that right? They were smaller than I expected. Are ducks like chickens? The first eggs are smaller?
Severe thunderstorm warning for brown county. Shoot-its getting closer. I am getting really tired of these storms!

Burned my arm on the steam from the canner. I don't know why I am such a clutz with that. I have so many scars.
Well good night all!

Hi All!

vickie... Those night hawks must be cool! How big are they?

TO...Goop Party is sometime in Oct. we need to set a date. I figured gardens should be almost done, kids are settled in school and things should be settling before the holidays. We could do a weekday or weekend, makes no difference to me. We would have to start "cooking" by 10:30 and probably won't be done until 5:00 with luck. I usually do it over 2 days, we'll have to squeeze instead of drip. It's the simmering that takes the longest. I figured we could eat then you all go home.

CC... (and anyone else coming for Goop Party)... This is what we need....
*All dried*
1#-Plantian leaf
1/2# -each Comfrey root, St. John's wort, Calendula flower, Chickweed, Mullein, and Yarrow.
We also need olive oil. I have lots of bee's wax. This should make 12 to 15 , 2oz. jars. If anyone has jars, that wold be cool! Let me know what you can bring, so I can get what you can't.
Let's hope my kitchen is fixed by then!

ana... nice ducks!

queen....

Good early morning! I am waiting for it to get a little bit light so I can let the critters out and get them fed a little before heading to work. I have decided that Sept will be the last month for me to go there (Oconomowoc) The days are just getting too short to do the chores and get there on time. Maybe I will start up again in Spring...the winter last year was a real B so I dont want to do that again for sure! (besides this job is WAAAY boring and not how I want to use my time!)

I am going to see if I can make Judge's pickled veggies this weekend. I kinda checked out the garden yesterday...wow, we had another great veggie dinner. I even scrabbled out a few potatoes to make along iwth the cabbage! Made it in coconut oil instead of butter...OMG so delish!

OK gotta run--have a good one! TerriO
