Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

So now that I am on the laptop...
The cutter..

And the Kraut!

I know it does not look like much, but there are 6 heads of cabbage in that crock. :)

Oldest DD and the BF made cookies tonight. I gave them a recipe and they decided to go rogue.... and too much flour has been added. They still taste good though!
nice cabbage cutter..looks like the one my mom has.
I love kraut when its sill not quite done..with caraway.

It was a great day for a get together! Happy to put a face to a few of you now. :) Next time hopefully I won't be as crunched for time.

Thanks for light info. I know that some ppl put up lights and others don't. a friend of my DH said that chx don't lay in winter. I told DH that his frinds chx don't lay in winter, but some do! since this is my first time having chx, I don't know what to expect. I'll just wait and see.

I have a Major issue to deal with now though. My dad's dog (parents are visiting until Wed. from Ark.) has attacked one of my roosters tonight when they came in to roost and now has a huge bald spot (approx. 3 in x 6 in ?) How can I help this poor guy! He's my favorite roo. :( will the feathers grow back?? Should I put something on it?

Cool kraut cutter! Sounds like a fun day at your house!

Well, after the DH sharpened the blades, making the kraut was super quick! He grated and I tossed it in the crock with the salt. :)

I used quilting thread and sewed up as best i could before sewing i rinsed with saline and used a whole tube of Neosporine. You'll need someone to hold while you stitch. I would only stitch if it is a gaping wide wound which is what it sounds like you have. Just enough to bring the sides together. We kept the hen inside and alone in a quiet environment for a week. Little movement and lots of rest. She is good as new now 2 months later. They heal great. Never removed the stitches... and also sprayed blue kote all over the area. Good luck

no skin appears to be broken actually, just feathers pulled out. HUGE bald spot. I'll put on neosporin tomorrow. there are spots of blood I'm not sure if it's from the follicle or what. I was using a flashlight and didn't want to hurt him further. will do a better check on him in the morning.
I'm really just happy that he made it out of the cornfield and into the coop.

WOW, I'm happy your chicky healed !

If he is just missing feathers, I wouldn't worry about it. They will grow back. How old is he? Is he molting? If so, the feathers will grow back in real soon. Just keep an eye on him to make sure noone stasrts pecking at his skin & makes him bleed. You could give him a light coat of Blu-kote on the naked spot as a deterrant if you want. Brrr, he's gonna be a little chilly at night.

Mel, we have a kraut cutter & a crock just like yours. Looks yummy! And as for the whack job, I vote for the latter.

Sad note tonight. We had a pred attack last night. The bass turd got my Jack.

He was my very first chicken. And the best surrogate mommy. He raised almost all of my chicks I've had. Sorry to be a bummer. Sweet dreams, all.

Hi All!

bl4....Wow... hope things work out for you. Sorry about the finger! Nice cutter!

Amyb... if you don't have Blue-Kote you could mix a drop of food color in the antibiotic. The idea is to disguise the exposed flesh and blood.

CC.... Awww SO SORRY about Jack!

Get that B%#*! that got him!!!

Yea, that farm was BAD!!! If the place she was living at was half as bad as that she should still have the book thrown at her. I wonder what her mental state is/was, can't be good.

Glad those who met up had fun!

LOL Neil said the food at the hospital is generally Ok but he's not having eggs for breakfast again and the Angle Food cake wasn't near as good as mine! Maybe I should drop off some eggs for his meals LOL

Nothing new..... night all!
