Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey everyone!

Well, I am finally feeling better! I've made it through 2 days of clinicals at Sheboygen Memorial hospital and everyone there is as sweet as sugar!! I am in my phleb rotation, as this hospital is small, the med techs do go up on the floor to draw in the mornings and occassionally. I know at bigger hospitals like St. Lukes, thats not the case. I am doing well! I am nervous to draw on patients still, as I just want to do the best I can do. I have drawn 3 patients so far, I messed up on the first one but the guy was a trooper. I didn't hurt him, but when I was switching tubes the needle popped out and he had some blood run down his arm

So after some refining on my switching tubes I drew two patients on Friday with perfect sucess. Not to mention I have drawn 3-4 techs and all with good sucess. I think I will have confidence going in on Monday and doing the morning draws.

The hardest part of clinicals for me is realizing this people really are SICK! In school they don't prep you for this, and all you see of these people are their little tubes of blood. Well then you get into the real world and walk into their rooms and see them in such pain, it's sometimes hard to handle! I've had family in the hospital and have been there, but it's crazy for me to be on the other side of that situation. Being the person trying to help them.

Well enough about clinicals. DH is up in Sturgeon Bay for deer hunting this weekend. No deer today from him, bummer! He was such a sweetheart and sent the toddler to the sitter, as with this pregnancy I can't get up with him real fast in the mornings otherwise I get sick. So, off to the sitter he went. I miss him, but I know it's best for me to try and be as healthy as possible so I can help this baby out! DH also cleaned up the whole house for me so I didn't have anything to do! Talk about a nice weekend off! My back is thanking him, I need to get used to walking up and down stairs 8 hours a day again!

Everyone ready for Thanksgiving?

Hi guys!

What a week I've had. I was away from home most of them time, a couple of overnights. I had noticed that one of the 6-week-old Cochin chicks looked a little off one day, so I separated it out into it's own brooder and didn't think much of it. Well, I didn't get back home until late afternoon the next day and ALL the chicks had a full-blown case of what I assume was coccidiosis. They stopped eating and were pooping blood (or, you know - bloody, tissuey-looking chunks). I got some corid in them, but it was too late. I lost ALL of them except for 1 Black Mottled girl who seems to be recovering - she's alert and eating and her droppings look normal, but she's lost about half her weight. If she pulls through, I'm calling her "Miracle".

So, that's what I've been dealing with. It SUCKS because the brooder was literally the cleanest its ever been (because I've had lots of company over, as well as being away a lot - so it's been completely dumped and filled with clean shavings twice a day for the past week or so), so it doesn't seem like something like that should happen, but that's been the story of my life the past few months, hasn't it?

I still have one adult hen and three ducks quarantined in the same room, so I assume something came in with them from outside and managed to infect the babies. In fact, my best theory right now (this is what I do when something like this happens - I turn my emotions off and get very analyctical about the situation) is that whatever the babies got came from that quarantined hen, because being inside has forced her into a molt, and her feathers are always flying ALL over that room - including into the brooder every once in awhile. It's so easy for something to spread that way.

Anyways...I'm running on a lack of sleep, I have a billion school assignments to finish, and I'm...just dizzy and numb, so the tradgedy of having to bury 7 beautiful 6-week-old Cochin chicks hasn't quite sunk in yet. I'll check back in with a picture of little "Miracle" if she pulls through the next few days!

On a lighter note ('cause I hate to be such a downer!), my boyfriend went out hunting on the neighbor's back 40 acres this morning. Called me telling me he was headed back to the house 2 hours earlier than we'd planned - he fell asleep at his stand (that's MY fault, trying to keep his third-shift brain awake during NORMAL hours, when it's actually light outside so we can go do things) and was woken up by two squirrels chattering. Didn't see anything else.

Good Morning Everyone! Annarie you sure have had more than your share of losses this year. Hope things improve. It's hard thing to experience! Raiquee glad to hear your finally feeling better! Sounds like you've got a good man there. Glad to hear it. BL4 I've had to make a couple of mercy killings in my day always hate when someone makes a bad shot. Can understand the DS's near toss, gut shots are a nasty mess. A good washing out will usually take care of the contamnation. Just be sure and toss anything questionable. Bigzio you da man! Good job! Looks like the weather will cooperate for hanging and cutting. Hope you got some pics and will share. TO You'll get all the eggs or chicks you want. We often travel through Madtown on our way to Delavan and could do a meet up in the spring. fm just let me know when you want some too and we'll make it happen. Will try and get a group pic on the picnic table during a meeting. It's misting out there this morning looks like a good day to watch the Pack. Seems to me that their record isn't very good in Min. Hope they can change that. hope Mr. Rogers makes it his neighborhood!

Hi All..
I am having the HARDEST time finding concrete nails to nail boards into the concrete in the barn.. I will have to go with plan B.. I did get nails, but they won't go into the concrete and they are specifically made for that.. gRRRRRR
I have a project for the house, a temp awning over my back stairs (which is a cheap metal one for a mobile home)-(we rent and our land lord is cheap). And an A-Frame over the doors to the basement. And now its raining.. and COLD>. .. and my shoulder hurts like...

.. time to call the doc for better pain pills.

Went and saw Red Green last night.. TOO FUNNY!!! got a pair of suspenders for my step dad, and found a little card that some one had drawn a figure of RG on it. I got both signed by him for them for X-mas!!!
tee hee.
My dog has decided I am HER new place to snuggle with.. at night.. our bed is huge.. and she has to lay RIGHT next to me.. LOL

I have decided I am planting squash next year and tomatoes and japanese eggplant! I still have plastic to put up outside of some windows, and HAVE to get the plastic up in the barn on two windows for the chickens!!

Later all

Good late morning everyone!

Bigzo- congrats on getting the deer!

DH texted to say he saw lots of tracks but no deer, plans to be home today by 4pm or earlier. The kids are waiting for him to be home(me too
wink.png
), it's very different when he's gone-not that the kids are bad or anything but the routine is different. Kind of foggy and misting here too, had the kids help move the 3 new Wheaten Ameraucana pullets to the girl pen in the coop as their quarantine is up- seems like they are getting along fine.

Since its hard to wait, we will probably candle the Andalusian eggs in the incubator to see if anything is happening
fl.gif

have to go clean out the quarantine pen so we can set up a pen with the Partridge Bantam Cochins and test eggs there too.

Have a good day, we'll probably watch the Packers too!

what type did you get? My DH says there are 2 types, first type is a fluted nail and has to pre drilled with a smaller masonary drill bit and the other type is a cut nail and you use a big hammer to drive it in. Hope this helps.

Ok dumb question coming.................... who do like in todays game against Min....LOL. I like the Pack to win but really hope they lose because it will give my Bears a little breathing room in the NFC North. WTS your boy's are playing well these past few weeks and are getting healthy again, not to mention this mutant called Troy Matthews LOL.

I hate Brett Farve. So there's your answer. I'm not too much into the football games myself. I can take them or leave them. But personally.....Brett Farve needs to TRUELY RETIRE!!!!! And I've said that for YEARS! Just my opinion.

The only football game I ever got to go to was the Packer Viking game back when I was ten. And it was COLD!!! But so much fun. I love the Packer vs. Viking games and the Packer vs. Bears games. Other ones....doen't matter much to me. I just hope we STOMP Brett Farve.

Evening All....fm your wishes came true. The Vikes really took a spanking today. I think Brett truly knows it's time to retire now.
I was in the shed working on the venzun and listened to the game on the radio, and having a few cool ones in the process.
Thanks for the congrats you guys!
Collected 9 eggs today. Been sharing them with neighbors and relation. Everyone realizes that they are superior to store bought....that's worth it to me.
Long day today, and a few more in a row to go. Wouldn't want it any other way.

Stay Safe, Have Fun.... ~ bigzio

Great job Bigz! You and yours will not go hungry this winter! Luck to the rest of you yet to get your deer...I saw a few in trucks today--not as many as usual I thought. Got another load of hay in the barn today...I am hoping that this will be the end for a while. I will know when I stack it tomorrow. Then I can get somewhat of a count and can do some cipherin'. I sure hope that I can be DONE! Dh is snoring on the chair...the man should really just GO TO BED after his bath! Every week it is the same *sigh*.
Today I made the BEST EVER split pea soup! Not sure what I did but man, it was delicious! I got my pie pumpkin baked, cleaned, pureed and frozen in preparation for making pies for the big day next week. My SIL says 2 pumpkins and a pecan should do it. That is doable I think...
Well, I am pretty darn tired myself...I do believe I will go upstairs and read for a bit. (I think I may have some really good chocolate up there...) So sweet dreams all---talk in the morning! Terri O
