David! Glad to have you here...we will also help you. I think there is an area here on BYC that tells where to find the info if you can legally keep chickens...I seem to remember reading something a while back.
Good evening everyone else...new and not so new. BL4--I forget what kind of calls you have. My neighbor just showed me his the other day when I stopped for a visit. I had never seen them in real life before...are they ever cute! (really loud though!) Anyhow, he is looking for a pair of white calls--I didnt think yours were white though. Annarie? Got any white calls to sell? He has some really neaat birds...of course I told him all about you guys...he is not a computer guy though...but maybe I could get him to come to a meet-up. I love going to his house; even though they are only a mile from me it feels like I am in a different state when I drive down to his house "in the holler."

That guy is kinda how he looks...bib overalls and a big white beard!

Took the dogs to the dog park today with DH after the game...I even watched the last quarter...so exciting! Saw the gigantic wolf hounds again and the blood hound. So much fun! Elliott (the dog in my avitar)decided that we would go to the right in the gate and stayed with us for half the park. Then off she went with some one else and their dogs. Afer we talked at the water pump for a long time she appeared for a little while and then took off again to play with 3 Irish setters. When we were ready to leave I was calling for her and the lady with the setters asked why I was calling HER dog! Turns out there were two Elliotts! All the dogs are now very tired and lying about the house--peace!
Well--I think I will catch a shower and head up to read...all that fresh air tired a body out! Sweet dreams all! Terri O

Help! My hen somehow managed to hatch a batch of chicks outside. Luckly, I found her just after a few had hatched. So I am looking for someone who would be willing to take her and the chicks or just the chicks. Their are eight right now and three more eggs that might hatch. I don't have anywhere for them. My coop isn't heated. Their free for the taking. Please call 608-372-4822 or 608-343-7499 Thanks for looking

Please let me know!! I can check my PM's... if no one can help her.

TO, they are not white, they look like mini mallard ducks. Yes they are LOUD! My neighbors have been the best with 8 of these little quackers sounding the alarm at all times of the day and night, but to keep the sanity I feel I must reduce the herd (so to speak). I never planned on having SO many calls in the first place! Just 3-4 and that was it!

Dr. H I don't make pies for just anybody; my FIL is a pecan fanatic so I make him one every Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have a 'special' recipe that has about 4 cups of pecans in it, does not even need the whipped cream.....

Thanksgiving with my family was wonderful! The kids were well behaved, lots of fantastic food and drink (made Tom & Jerry mix), and it was so nice to see my big bro and his little family! My little niece is the cutest little thing, she is so petite and talks in such a little peepy voice (it is just so darn cute); I had forgotten how adoreable little ones are!

Now I have to start thinking about my Christmas cookie list.......

I am going to call that Lady in Tomah today at lunch and see about picking them up tonight.

I have 3 Broody girls right now and one already hatched out 11 so they would be in good company.

Good Morning Everyone! Fbk so glad your going to get those chicks and hen. As soon as I read it the wheels started turning. I'm not set up for chicks this time of year. And WELCOME! BL4 your making me feel special, I kinda like it! That pie sound scrumptious! TO that's funny about the dogs! You could have gone home with an extra. Bigz thought the Pack did pretty well, a lot closer game than I thought it would be. WECOME to you too otonoh! We'll be more than happy to help you on your journey! Heading over to the BFF's to help cut up a deer then back here to clean the chimney and drag some trees out. I let Pea and Btwo out with the big kids yesterday turned out not to be such a good idea. "B" went on the attack and beat the crap out of Peatwo. So back in the appartment they went. Have a good one!

good morning all! well i just spent about 3 hrs catching up on the last couple of weeks that i have missed and it seems i missed alot.

well deer hunting didnt go so good i overslept opening morning and woke up at 445 am and got my climber hung in my stand at 6:30 and took the round out of the chamber to climb up my tree and here comes a wall hanger about 40 yards away! and that was the only deer i saw all week so it was a long one! lol

my son came out from Oregon on tuesday and left sunday morning. we had a great time catching up . sure missed him it was nice to have him home for a while and his girlfriend was great also. i told him he better hang onto her because she made the pies for thanksgiving and man they were good lol. pumpkin, banana cream, chocolate cream oh boy.

to top it all off my daughter had a baby on saturday morning! a little girl named Kaysiin Dawn 7lbs 10oz 20 inches long . It was nice timing with Rob home so he could be there to see the newest addition to the family.

We had about 20 people at the house for turkey day talk about a full house but thats what holidays are all about sharing with those you love right. the downside was that out of a 24lb turkey there was only enough leftovers for about 2 sandwiches.

the highlight of the week was a trip to the new Cabelas down by Milwaukee. If you have never been there it is worth the trip and plan on at least 4 hrs to spend there. We were there for 2 and hardly saw any of the store.

Welcome to all the new members i hope you enjoy it here these people are great and they have all the answers you could ever ask for.
well i have gotten 4 eggs so far and the one this morning was a dandy it was the biggest egg i have ever seen . the chickens have been on lock down for the second day now so i can try to convince them to lay in the nesting boxes. I put golf balls in them but they just kicked them out and tried to bury them in the bedding. i found my egg laid in front of my pop door this morning but its better than the garage i guess. well gotta go i have an MRI this morning on my elbow.

Firebomb- THANK YOU!!!

Thanks to your "watchdog" efforts WIChCh you have saved more chickens! Way to go...and thanks Firebomb for getting them too! I had a hen hatch 15 one January. I think she started laying when there was the thaw and of course the babies hatched when it got REALLY cold again. That hen raised ALL 15 babies in the cold barn that winter! Those babies became my laying flock the following summer! For some reason some hens can accomplish that in the winter...super moms I guess!

So good morning all...seems not too bad out there...guess I better get those potatoes out of the garden! I have brussels sprouts to harvest yet too--we has some of the chard last night with dinner. OMG--it was delicious! I am going to try and leave the plants and see if I can get some early chard in spring...dont know if it will work or not but they keep growing out of the center of the plant--maybe I will scatter some seeds as well.
Got a bunch to do today...no energy of course. Maybe I will make another pot of coffee. Should really push the barn yard out with the skid loader before the rain...DH put my horse trailer in the pasture for the winter this weekend. All I can think of is loading the horse and going somewhere...of course!
OK--off my butt now and let's go to work!

Wish my friend was around to talk to...more fun working around the house talking...got a blue tooth for my phone--now I dont even get "phone neck!"

Before I go to work I have a few things to take care of here on BYC...later all; and, as usual--Have a fantastic day! Terri O

Not at the moment - in the spring for sure! And they're from great bloodlines too - I really shouldn't have splurged on them.

Actually, I'm selling out of EVERYTHING besides the Calls, Cochins, Hookbills, and Indian Runners. It was hard to choose what to keep and what to let go, but my boyfriend likes the Calls and the Cochins ('cause they're small and easy), I LOVE the Hookbill breed, and I'm not done playing with the color genetics in the Runners yet. I haven't been online again much because...well, things haven't been great in the house with my mom, and I've been living in Baraboo half the time. Which is why I need to sell about half the birds - it's not exactly fair to ask my 10-year-old sister to take care of all the birds while I'm curled up in a bed 30 miles away ignoring all responsibility.

And I've completely lost the vegetarian struggle.

I did it for 6 years. Now I'm CRAVING meat all the time. I ate about HALF of the Thankgiving turkey. My boyfriend made me bacon and eggs with big hunks of aged venison sausage for breakfast yesterday. And then I had fried chicken for dinner. It's over. I'm a carnivore again.

Miracle survived, by the way - the Corid cured "her" right up. Again, this is why I need to sell a butt-load of birds - if I had been home and caught the cocci earlier, I'm sure I wouldn't have lost so many gorgeous babies. Miracle has sprouted a little red comb, so "she" might actually be a he.

Anyways, if any of you want any birds, let me know. I have the Sebastopol geese ($15 each for you guys), Stanbridge Whites ($30 for the flock), Dark Campbells ($30 for the flock), a pair of Dutch Hookbills and a couple of Mallard drakes I'll give you for free, and those really pretty mutt pairs of ducks that I'll ask like $5 for, because they're just too pretty to give away.
smile.png
Lets see - I also have some roosters to get rid of, a White Crested Black Polish Bantam pullet, and my teeny little pair of Japanese Bantams. Once I get rid of all them, I have some coops and cages to sell too.

Oh - and those CUTE little Columbian Cochin chicks that hatched last week! Can I tempt anyone???
