Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

bbl4 you are right about that i totally spaced out on that one., not a big deal im not in a big hurry anyway was just looking towards next year.

went out and saw one of my hens coming out of the shed in the backyard the kids left the door open and when i looked inside i found 6 eggs in a pile! The sneaky little bugger they were half frozen so i just threw them out on the ground and the whole flock came running over like i rang the dinner bell and started eating them. Now i wonder if i have to worry about them eating them in the coop. Any feed back on that anyone?

well gota stoke the fireplace and haul some pellets downstairs have a good day.

Good morning! Chris--some people say that it makes hens eat eggs out of the coop but I throw raw ones to mine all the time (have for over 20 years) and I have not had any egg breaker/eaters except for one roo one time and he was brought in. I try to make sure the shell is crushed pretty well so it is not recognizable as an egg. But sometimes I am in a hurry and just toss them. Another thing you can do that they love is to bring old eggs in and toss them in a frying pan with the shells and all and scramble them up. Let them cool and feed them back. Cheap protein and calcium added! My dogs love them too! (I get a LOT of eggs!)
So Mr Buffo is doing ok this morning. I got a suggestion to hang him in a t-shirt and will try that after work today. He is getting his one leg forward under the box so he is not in the right position to heal...*sigh*

Have a fantastic day everyone--gotta go cook at the Pines! Terri O

There has been a few times when I have dropped an egg before I get the set on the counter, and my dog Meeka just loves lapping it up. Sometime I swear she watches praying that I will drop one.
I live north of La Crosse and when I first moved here from Michigan, a few people heard my hubby call me the troll and it kind of stuck.

Good Late Morning Everyone! WELCOME Troll! I'm guessing your short on one end?

Glad you don't take offence to it. Glad to have you join us! Knew there would be an increase in members with winter setting in. TO think that might be a good idea to sling up Mr. Buffo if he will allow it. Hope his healing is fast! I feel for him, poor baby! cd I agree with TO. I haven't had any lasting problems. Still can't get over how smooth the wyandotte eggs are. Think they're getting a little bigger now. But I also think the flow of water in the crawlspace is slowing down. Wishful thinking? Got the heat tape on the discharge hose yesterday think it's just in time for the cold nights ahead. Talked to Sears this morning and have to go in to order a replacement freezer tomorrow. Have a qtr cow coming around the end of the month. L has all the xmas shopping done all I have to do is write a couple of checks. She did it all in one fell swoop. What a woman! Got the chili tamed yesterday to where it won't send ya to the hospital but will let you know your still alive. Having some tomorrow night for sup sup leftover tatertot casserole tonight. Got my outside stuff done this morning now on to dishes. Have a good one!

My guess is it's a rat. I had one that took golfballs. Get a trap and set it. I use peanut butter, they can't stay away from it.
Hello to everyone new!!!

Hi to everyone else. Boy did it take me awhile to catch up. Been busy these past couple of weeks. Was sick for one of them and Turkey day was the other. Good to see everyone had a good holiday. Anniarie-It's ok, I understand and have crossed over a couple times myself. If I had space I would take your babies, but would have to put another heat lamp in the barn for them and I think DH would be mad. All I hear about is the electric bill.

BL4-if you can hang onto them till spring, you know I would take a couple. I really want to try ducks again and your calls are beautiful.
Pecan pie sounds good. I made one last year for christmas and my DH grandpa (95) gave me rave reviews. MIL and SIL weren't to happy either since he doesn't give out complaints very often and had said their pies in the past were OK. I was ok with it.

Hopefully everyone is ready for the snow tonight. I'm not enjoying the cold, but am looking forward to the snow. Ok Gots to go. Take care everyone!

Thanks belatedly for the response to my post on showing/swaps, etc. Didn't mean to post and run, had to leave suddenly to head back to Iowa for my stepfather's funeral, then came back in time for surgery for myself. So, now I'm home, recouping, and trying to catch back up.

Back to reading.

Chilly weekend coming, poo. Almost tempers my wanting to go check for eggs. Almost.

Chris, sorry to hear about the waterer giving you grief. I just made a cookie tin heater, like on BYCer hjinck's thread. Cost less than $5, got a small 60-watt bulb in there and it's working wonderfully. We'll see how it does in subzero temps. Had to pick up shavings at the feedstore this week; first time I had to buy them, my dad gave me bags of the stuff from making his own cabinets, but used it all up. But got a big bag of BOSS too and used a $1/off coupon for it. Not sure the chooks knew what to do with it at first, silly birds.

All the food stories, mmmmm, looks and sounds great! We're having Sumatra roo tonight with rice. Not the meatiest, but great flavor. Thinking about starting my own self-sustaining Delaware meat flock, anyone else interested?

Hellllllooooooo to the newbies!!!
