Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

White heavy 2 inch afternoon all....melting awful fast...sure wish mother nature coulda melted 2 inches of the stuff we already have instead of providing additional stuff.

New Backyard Poultry mag came yesterday. I think this cover will prolly win the contest they run every year for the best pic sent in and placed on the cover...way cute this issue!

Sauerkraut and pork steak tonight. I get such a craving for kraut that I have to cure it with a meal of the good stuff.

Talked to a friend that does the maple surip and asked him what he uses for a filter....he uses a cotton diaper and lets it drain for a couple days into a milk can. When they are finished making surip, they take the bottom gallon to the pro's in tilleda and give it to them...they force it though some high pressure system the pro's all use....then nothing is wasted, I guess.

Glad suzie did the shoveling around the house today....it woulda layed there til it melted otherwise.

I'm with you on the Sauerkraut ... I have planned a Pork Roast and Sauerkraut dinner for Saturday. I might make some perogies (cheese & potato) if I don't have too busy of a day!

:-( Our sap has not yet started to run and now we're starting to get temps in the mid to upper 40s (some a little higher), but at the same time the night temps aren't dropping below freezing. I hope this year isn't a bust, we will be sad, we are almost out of syrup from last year.

I'm trying to make a make-shift turner in my home made incubator. Do you think 2 inches is enough tilt movement to keep them moving? By 2 I mean when one end is all the way down to all the way up is 2 inches. If not I'll have to do some tweaking to make room for more movement.

Sandy, I have a couple of the older "totes" that have what I think is the odd valve you are dealing with,,,,what I did for those was clamp a short rubber hose adapter over that valve, on the other end I clamped in a PVC fitting that went from that diameter 2" I think to a 3/4"M stub,,,then added a 34"MIP to 3/4"Hose fitting I'd go check but the totes are buried in the snow yet in the field :)

the newer food grade totes on plastic pallets usually have stand pipe thread ends that can be adapted down to your hose fitting easy peasy,,,,I find most of these fittings are Menards

you can also google "tank flanges for totes",,,maybe find what you need exactly,,,I also think that Fleet Farm has adapters for totes

good luck

She's growing good, 4 month check up was yesterday. Weighs 13# 3 oz and is 24". She had her shots so has been a bit fussy since. Just found out that her parents may of given us scabies at her visit today. Will make a trip to dr tomorrow to get treatment meds. I hope its not hard to rid, I've already washed all our clothing from today. I've never had it before nor know a thing about it other than I heard it was contagious. Not real happy about it as I guess they've known about it for almost 2 months and never got treatment or even warned people near them.

what do you use the comfrey for? I need to transplant some from my dad's if this snow ever goes away!
I am planting a small garden this year. Last year was a bit much...I am going to try more herbs for the chickens and I need Comfrey. I lost all of it last year and it never came back up. I need to plant a ton of it I think.

Which herbs do you plant for chickens. I know parsley is good for them...what else? I plant rainbow chard around the coop and run for snacks and pretty!
