Where I live it's tricky. If you live in the town you must have at least 3 acres, I believe. You can also have roosters. In the city the law is very vague. You can basically have as many chickens as you want. The noise ordinance covers roosters. I don't know the law about cats and dogs in the town, but in the city you are allowed 2 dogs or 2 cats or one of each without a kennel license. I'm over the limit on cats and dogs, but most of my neighbors have cats and dogs- nothing will be done unless someone reports you. As for the chickens, I try to follow Milwaukee and Madison laws- minus the number of chickens we have. I always have at least 6 at all times. We currently have 13, but plan on selling 6 as soon as the pullets start laying.
Ah yes I remember the 3 acre rule. We bought a house with 2.9 acres in the town of Waukesha. There's a section off of grandview that's still in the town. Sold it a couple of years ago to buy a bigger house so my parents could move in with us.
