Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,,

with her head pulled through the fence like that, I would be watching for a weasel or a mink anyhow.

I am about to head into town right now for a cuppa.. not because I have to, but because I can, now that I have my own wheels..

If chicks do not want to hatch, there is usually a good reason.. I would cull that sickly one right now. you can do what you want..just hatched chicks do not need supplements.. they are still working on the yolk ..

That's why I said to leave it :/
Anywho, how many weeks should they and my ducklings stay in the house? IE when can the be moved to the garage with the heat lamps? We are moving this Spring, so I don't want a bardyard in my spare bedroom for too long since the house is for sale

Ooh bbl4 I will be measuring as soon as I have time!
Bailey, gorgeous pic!
Kee, sorry to read about your hen!
I learned my lesson on keeping weak chicks. Every time I babied them through last year, they would thrive for a short time. Then just always seeked sickly. And always died later. I now think it would be better for them to pass right away. Instead of alwYs not feeling well and drawing it out. I have realized it is a part of hatching chicks in an incubator.

Unk- the PHA meetings had changed venues! I thought Chubby's Stubby was a great a place for them! But they had to ruin a good thing by moving them to Frita's Flapping Folds. I mean, really? If they had to move the meetings from Chubby's, they could have least taken it to Tammy Topless Taters! Great naked taters there...

(Happy now dan?)

here is how a weasel operates..

It is a hoarder.. It kills an animal/bird drags it to it's larder and goes for another one..
when it gets into a chicken coop it just kills, kills, kills, then it attempts to drag the carcasses home..

Often it gets the head through the fence but the body won't fit, so he leaves it and tries another ..

Sometimes the head is eaten.. but that might not be the case,, it could be that the weasel tears the head and neck by pulling on it..

I read this too... and heard that the smell of blood puts them into a frenzy and that is why they kill multiple chickens. They also like water and wooded areas and aren't one to travel over large fields/lawns, etc. We had a neighbor up the road have all his chicken killed by a weasel, but none of our were touched.. We were very glad for that!

Robin, I see you posted about 15 minutes ago wondering where I was.. I was reading 35 posts ..

I did pick up the new/different Blazer today.. got it all licensed and insured and gassed up..
I ran out of gas in the MVD parking lot.. I called the guy I bought it from and he brought me a can of gas..

I read so much, and had a few comments. CRS now..

I made a pot of chili for supper.. I don't know how I do it, but I keep making chili better each time .

I had 5 good inquiries about the 3 puppies I have left today.. I even asked the girl at the MVD if she was interested in a dog.. she said no, but another lady working there was looking for one.. so she called her over and I gave her my phone # and address ..

I don't want to sell the last female, but Annie said, sell her, so guess what brow beaten hen pecked husband is going to sell her ? I get no respect ...

I am tired tonight,, stayed up too late last night and got up too early this morning..

H & R how do people mess up an apartment so bad in such a short time ? we lived in this house for over 45 years and I have never replaced a door or had to repaint a wall or trim..

Mom had a duplex that I built for her .. in just one years time we had to replace 2 doors. pieces of siding .. clean up dirt inside that was unbelievable.. One midnight mover left the Christmas tree with some presents still under it..

It got too much for Mom so she sold it .

getting tired .. need sleep.. this is where Frenchy would go kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk ..

we have some ideas but that's about it!

paperwork here today, youngest DS had to go in for a check up so no point in me driving back into town

saw that Farm & Fleet is now carrying items needed to set for bees....looks interesting, when I was younger we had bees for several years but then I think we lost the bees one winter and my dad didn't replace them.

have a good one!

I did some comparison on prices for those Farm & Fleet bee supplies... $59.99 for a 10frame hive with frames. At Dadant you can get the same setup for $57.50. for 2.50 bucks extra it's worth just picking up while at Farm and Fleet. Now to find some type of % off form Farm & fleet and it will even be cheaper.

Thought I would share a picture of an egg I got yesterday.... it's probably from my oldest Buff Orpington, she's starting to show her age. :-(

Have a good day all!!

Quote: I don't know what is considered a large field.. I have fields on all three sides of us, not counting a 120 acre across the road.. the shortest distance across the field from the woods is about 500 feet .. we have had weasels more than once .. a bear and a bobcat ..

we have had lots of calls about the puppies for these past few days... 2 from New London, 1 from North of Duluth .. One from the UP .. and a couple locals ..

the bash does start on May 30, right ?

I made arrangement for a nephew to come here and pitch the schit our of my coops.. he doesn't really relish the job, but he likes the money .. all I do is drive the tractor and empty the bucketfuls ..

this year I am going to have him hose the inside real good. didn't do that for a couple of years.. Then after things dry, I want to paint the whole inside white.. I might hire him for that , too..
