Good nearly afternoon! I am very lazy today--slept like crap last night!
I hate when I lie awake and watch the clock...just knowing that I will feel like this the next day...
ChrisD--I figure if they lose their comb they lose their comb! Doesnt seem to mess them up any if they arent show birds that is! I figure that all my Anconas will lose the points this winter--no frostbite yet, but we arent even half done with cold yet! Actually the BO roo that is in the house looks like he was dubbed because he lost all his points 2 winters ago...he is still "hanging around" in my kitchen BTW...no change in his legs.
Well, I cooked that duck last night. It was FANTASTIC! The skin wasnt the same as your store bought duck...but the meat was really tasty. (it was a muskovy) I am going to debone the rest of it and make some type of thing for supper with the remaining meat. Not sure just what as yet!
It sure is nice with the sun shining this morning! My thermometer says 20 so it's off with the horse blankets! Dont want to spoil those guys too much.
I use wood ash in my coop but not on the bedding. I have a box that I mix wood ash, DE and Sevin in that the birds dust bathe in to keep the mites down. It seems to work pretty well.
That is really crummy about the cancer! My friend down the road was diagnosed with "pigeon lung" and he had to get rid of all inside birds and he stopped butchering birds for sale too. He was on oxygen for a while but he is looking really good now. He still can have his birds outside as long as he doesnt spend any time with them in the coops. I guess he was lucky. I would hate to have to get rid of all mine! Prayers to all our friends that are suffering from cancer!
Well dd24 wants to bake up cookies when she gets home at noon so I guess I better get off here and get something ready...lazy, lazy, lazy--that is me today! Have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O
