Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

The dog was barking at something this morning, so I ran outside in bare feet and saw him in the woods with something that was growling at him. My first thought was to get the gun and shoot this thing that was probably what has been killing my chickens. Then he chased it up the tree. It was a bear. So, not the culprit. But it came back again about 1/2 hr later. Now I notice my bird feeder has been taken down, so he was here last night too. Little brat.

good morning,

had a nice rain last night before midnight,, cloudy and drizzling here right now..

moved 86 guinea keets in with the chicks. all are doing well..

Wildsam, where in Germany/Duetchland are you from ? I spent almost two years near a tiny place called Hinterwiedenthal,, next closest town was Dahn,, Pirmasens was the closest large town..
I miss the Parkbrau beer ..

I didn't check the garden for a couple of days,, with this rain and heat I'll bet the corn grew a couple of inches.

Jerry M expected 10 chicks from his eggs.. I am looking at #14 right now..

I am going to raise them for him for awhile.. He has little knowledge about chickens.. and has poor luck keeping chicks alive .. He keeps telling me "we had chickens when I was growing up" but I don't think he had much intermingling with them,,

the more I think about it, the more I am convincing myself to pout a concrete sidewalk between the lean-to and the chicken coop.. I already have it planned out in my head, so I must be thinking of it a lot ..

putting a concrete floor in the lean-to crosses my mind a lot, too..
but first things first ..

when I was a kid, soccer was hardly mentioned .. it is a more recent craze here in the States.
If America can't win, then I am glad the Germans will ..

Guten tag, ,,,,,,,jiminwisc........

sounds like the dog has a lot of heart and little fear..
give him a "good dog" and an "atta boy" for me,,
I do not like the fact that the bear came back.. maybe you will have to team up with the dog and scare it off good.. lots of noise, maybe some firecrackers and lots of people beating on kettles with wooden spoons.. do it once and do it good ..

I chased a bear out of here one night with the ATV because he wasn't running from the dog. It still came back. I'm a little annoyed that they broke my expensive squirrel proof feeder. This bear was young. I was thinking "where's mom"?
We had a beast out here last year. Probably 500 lbs. But I only saw him once. I didn't realize he was there until I was about 20 feet away from him. Then I let the dog out. He chased him off. I don't mind them being in the yard, but the dog takes great joy in chasing them out of his yard, so I let him. If all they do is ruin a bird feeder, I'm fine with it.

Jim, my uncle lives in Hinterweidenthal. And I am from Mannheim (actually Ludwigshafen, on the other side of the river) so you've probably heard of it. Small world with lots of soldiers! Lol

Yup, soccer is as big (if not bigger there) than football here. Not quite sure that the States will beat their next opponent, but we shall see. Would for sure be an interesting match...

Blue skies and sunny. But still a nice cool breeze to enjoy before the heat sets in again. Ain't gonna be doing much today as even sleeping and pain killers didn't do crap for my back. Just glad I'm going back to Uncle Cracker tomorrow. Might need more than once a week there to get my back back in. And maybe some down time here for a change. Not much hope though with the brat in the forecast again...

Pancakes for breakfast (his task every weekend to at least make breakfasts, after which I gotta remove the remainders of the produced bomb there).

Also the last eggs hatched. Time to finally shut them things down for the year and slowly move all the messes outside when the ducklings are big enough. For now still have 5 bigger little ones and 5 smaller ones inside with the 2 latest pheasie chicks. Should be outta here soon. Yeay! Now just on to the everlasting search for a freaking tester before 19 july's swap! Later alligator...

Fernie, methinks you should wear a camera around your neck at all times..

I should. Maybe I should get one of those head cameras? This way you all can see from my POV? lol

Today we found all my garlic bulbs that I had in the house tossed out a second floor window. Tonight they will get a slice of bread and a glass of water before bed. Wasting food is frowned upon.

Fernie-rotflmao

None of this is funny, but it is at the same time. we are not even going to discuss the potatoes they peeled, chopped and tried to cook in the microwave. I refuse to touch the microwave. Never use it myself so, they will not have use of it until it is cleaned. lol

I told the husband you are home. You get to clean up their messes. He looked at me like 'What did I do?' I told him 'you made them' and walked into our room.

Came in here to snuggle my new fuzzy butts. Had 10 of 11 Welsummer eggs hatch last night. I am so hoping these guys are as friendly as the ones I have outside.

I was to Mannheim a couple of times,, don't remember seeing you there..

I rode and drove in a few convoys, went through lots of towns.. not a lot of time for sight-seeing when I was driving a small truck with a trailer behind, and trying to not get run over by the semi's behind me ..

I spent more than one night at Gertie's bar right on main street.
Might have seen your uncle and didn't know it,,
I understand that Gertie is still running the gasthaus..
Willie's gasthaus is still going, only Willie Jacobi died.. his son Gunther is running it now.. they had a man made lake to run a small generator for their own electricity.. in the summer when the water got low, we drank our beer in darkness or by candle light..

Jim, would be kinda difficult to see me if you don't know how I look or if I was even born at the time you were there! Lol.

But I've seen my share of convoys, trucks and other military things since my ex (the guy responsible for bringing me here) was military and stationed in Mannheim (Coleman Bks).

Was great weather today, hot bit breezy enough to keep the skeeters and humidity mostly away. Finished the duck house, tilled and redid I the pens then had some good food on the grill. He fixed his sump pump (since we use that to drain our pond) and didn't even get zapped anymore. The bators are cleaned and put away for the year, the dogs happy and wore out.

Now just finishing up some loose ends and relax after taking a nice hot shower. I even managed to clean the kitchen all the way and vacuum!

Better do that before it gets all dark outside. Missing the light nights of Germany, sitting out in the beer gardens or by the lakes til almost midnight. In summer it won't get dark til almost 11pm...

Nathan and I cleaned out the garage and basement a bit this morning. I have to find a women's shelter to donate toys, books, and clothes. We moved a mini fridge to the basement for Nathan's beer supplies. I have a couch to move downstairs too, but I have to have a cool day to get into the attic with the camping supplies, some crap from the basement, and winter sleds that have been tucked away in the garage. Nathan still has one window to put in as well.

Deli-sorry we didn't get out there this weekend. I had completely forgot about soccer registration and the volunteer picnic scheduled for this weekend. I'll get it dropped off soon.

Got bit up tonight walking around with Theo. We must be getting another storm soon.

We'll, one can assume that baby roo is dead in wonderland. Otherwise everything else is good here.

Per the BLR hen with broken leg. I found it out by feeling her legs all over and her left was completely detached at the knee/hock w/e it's called. Their was no fixing it so I had to cull her and it hurt. I'm sorry Cuties! The only thing I can blame it on is when I first went out and noticed her both roos were taking turns and trying to claim her over and over so I penned her alone but the damage had already been done.

Well the keet with splay is now walking but the splay leg has curled toes. I tried taping them when I hobbled it but it wouldn't stay. I'm thinking about using duct tape, I originally cut out a piece of cardboard and tried to wrap each toe with tape but it just wouldn't adhere right so give up. Any suggestions would be great to try and straighten those toes. I'm not ready just yet to cull it.

Checked on the Sussex pen today and one chick had hatched. I candled the eggs and only 7 more were fertile and ready. Just checked when I came in and their are 2 hatched and 4 pipped and another internally pipped. Should be hatched by morning. I noticed one of the chicks was gone and was worried it fell and the others killed it. Opened up the coop door(this coop the nesting boxes are accessed from the outside) and it was sitting with the other broody and another hen laying on top of her trying to steal her clutch. Man those SS are broody this time of year.

Picked up a Pella window at a sale yesterday for 20$, it's 55"x78" so this afternoon I decided it was going on the west wall of the new garage. Just finally came in from framing most of that wall and installing the window. Tomorrow I will tackled the siding of it as long as it doesn't get too awful hot out. Got all but 8 feet of the roof done and run out of tin. Found out it is industrial pole tin and to get the 2 20 foot sheets we need it will cost $75 just for freight. That's not happening so I'm thinking of using the clear stuff for light to do the rest. Going to price it tomorrow and maybe go pick that up to get roof finished. I should get photos of it at some point here. It's really coming together and I can't wait until the walls are all done so I can get some organization done as so much stuff is in the way from the pole shed that fell in we can hardly work sometimes. I ended up getting a whopping $2400 for everything from insurance. I fell I got totally screwed on the deal as the part I did claim on the personal property they only give me 60% when they told me I was getting 80%. I just give up and will over insure the new garage when it's finished and it will have ice and snow coverage this time.

Just candled a few of the 4 dozen in lockdown and it should be soon. I'm up to my ears in chicks, need to get them sold already. I have 43 of the Layer/meat chicks and about 20 BLR and BLR EE that are all over 3 weeks. I plan on taking what I have to the Wheaton swap on the 5th. Hope to sell them all.

Well hope everyone had a good weekend.

Oh and to answer your question about problems posting Jim, I keep having it happen to me!
