Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

We're ready for this massive storm coming through. Supposed to have 80mph gusts. Tornadoes have been tagging along the way as it moves. We've showered, eaten, and locked up.

I just came in from shutting up the door to the little bird's quarters.. it cooled down quite a bit, the rain looks like it is going to stay to the South of us..

I pushed all the new chicks out of a corner and forced most of them under the brooder hood.. I might have to go back after dark and repeat the process..

I didn't know that a full tummy and a clean body would ward off big storms.. learn something new every day ..

found two dead keets out there ,, down to 101 ..

LOL Thanks for sharing Yvette!!

So my one and only ENg Orp chick died this morning. Then of the two "Lav Faverelloes" (One which hatched brown-breeder said this is a project) that was actually lavender in color, died. (Both of these I suspected wouldnt make it.) I hjave one other that is questionable due to its legs being semi crippled. Leaving me with 12 Salmon Faverolles, and the one brown "lav" faverolles.

Hi all--raining here still! It rained all last night and then we got about 4" in an hour while I was at work. I drove through about 3" of water running over the road before I realized it. I guess part of the new 26 bypass is underwater...now who was the brilliant engineer that designed that piece of roadway?
Jim--I think you will need ice skates for your walk this winter...I am with Brent on this one! I only wish I HAD a sidewalk between house and coops--maybe I wouldnt go through so many pairs of boots? There used to be one but when we put the new septic in they demolished it. Now I use stall mats over wood chips to stay out of the mud in the doorway...I am really glad I moved them around last week.

We had one of our dogs hit on the road on Saturday. I was at work and DH was "wrangling" dogs (his words) when he heard it happen. He said her heart was beating when he got her into the car...but she was gone by the time he got to the vet. They wrapped her up...I wonder if we will get a bill? Not our usual vet...It is appreciably more quiet around here...DH is not yelling at that dog any more. For those of you that know my dogs it was Elliott, the black and white short haired Border collie(?) that I had gotten from Dane county. She couldnt see in bright light and that was getting worse by the week. It is sad, but perhaps better?

I sure wish the rain would let up...I have a meeting tomorrow at 8 and havent locked up yet! I hate having to wear glasses and go out in the rain...gotta find my hat!
We may have solved our fox problem! I was reading up on how they hunt and told DH to take the loader and just push all the stinging nettle and other misc weeds into a big pile (that I will burn if it ever dries up!) We havent heard any commotion out there for a few mornings now...I am hoping that the change of landscape throws her off. There is certainly less areas for hiding now.

OK--rain or not--I need to go outside and then hit the hay! Good night all...TerriO

(PS) to the person SE of Madison (sorry I cant remember the name...Burt something?) I can set you up with some pullets if you like--shoot me a PM.

Oh yeah--I forgot to say...the best "chick shoes" for crooked toes are made with clear lightweight deli lids. Cut a circle big enough for the foot and tape the foot to it with a strip of packing tape (the clear stuff) THe only thing is that you must name the chick Cinderella then! TO

Hi All!

Man did we have RAIN! We were lucky, storm knocked out electric in many areas around us but we were OK. Most that happen here was our big ladder got blown over on the deck but no damage.

Not much else, holding off putting eggs under broodies until the ones from TO come. I want to increase my odds by giving them each so from each batch. That way if something happens to one nest it's not a total loss.

Night All!

good morning,

It has been raining here, on and off, not any more than we can handle.. keeps the puddles full so I don't have to water the outside birds..

All of the chicks made it through the night just fine.. I was concerned about those 2-day old chicks.
they are becoming street wise very quickly ..

some of the older birds could go outside during the day, but they are all mixed together out there so they will have to wait until the younger ones get a little bigger.. but if I keep adding little ones, that could take a while, couldn't it ?

really a nice cool morning today.. I think I will make a cuppa and go sit outside and watch the birds.

and somewhere I need to find at least a small amount of ambition..
