Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good afternoon,

when I am done with the coop, a mouse will have to carry a wrecking bar to get in,, besides, why would they want to go into the chicken coop when they are so comfortable in my house ?

all you need for keets is warm and dry.. and remember they can fly at a very early age,,
I told the same thing to a lady one time about her baby turkeys,, she went ahead and housed them in her green house.. within a week or two she admitted to me that I was right.. the little turkeys flew up onto her seed bed tables and ate all the new seedlings..
do not let the guinea hens try to raise them,, most of them will be dead within a week or two,,

One chick has hatched,, due date is tomorrow, or today, for some, I guess..

I have the door stop all cut out and planed to thickness.. I decided to leave a space on the outside in case I ever want to put a screen door on..
yeah I know, then the mice can get in,,

Marlene called me to come pick up my keets that she was trying to sell,, then just before I was going to leave, she called back and said that she sold 5.. and maybe I should wait until this weekend..

Got back to the farm and of course, nothing done. So I cleaned and let out all the ducklings and then I saw it. Mama Rouen was standing outside with all 6 (!) of her babies! Supercute! While I was doing chores I kept watching them and they even went into the pool and swam for a bit, under the watchful eyes of mama, papi and auntie Pekin. Such a great sight.

Later on he came home from work and wouldn't you guess?! He had a 5gal bucket in both hands. In it were 2 one day old black/white Scovie babies. He tried to get them with the Rouen babies and mama, but she started pecking at them. So we took them out again and have now another tub inside. Again. Oh well.

Didn't cook anything since I was still taking care of the duckies when he came. So leftovers it was. Too bad! (Evil grin smiley here) now I finally sat down after locking everyone up and taking care of the dogs, while he is chatting for the past half hour already on the phone with the brat. Go figure. Gonna try to figure and sort through whom I take to the swap tomorrow. Supposed to be pretty warm again then. We shall see...

Aw Jim, I hope never that doesn't happen! Even if I locked them, they are just wire set on wood. They could liftnit right up

what is the great stuff for the door?
Cooties, Great Stuff is foam insulation in a can,, I use it for crack filler.. there is always a space between the jamb and the stud framing.. I fill that space with the foam,, it expands and goes into every nook and cranny .. and no air will ever get through there..

I use it for installing windows, too..

I'll bet your DH uses it too..

Yes I have been to High Cliff, just not taken the time to do the hiking trails. Something I plan on fixing soon.

Pretty boring day here. I wish it would warm up! I have all this time off and lousy beach weather!

Hi All!

Nice Pics everyone!

BBP.... That's funny that you just got a "new" older truck, DH called me this afternoon and asked what I thought about getting a '98 Dodge Ram conversion van! Lets hope both of us have good luck with them!

That's it.... Night All!

Hey all.
nice pics bbl4.
I love the pic of the dog in the "pool"
Jim, I bet he does use that stuff.

Well, the serpentine (sp) belt broke on the car last night :(nand with him gone, what a hassle! Then at 2:20nthis am I was pulled over for a rolling stop. Man! I feel like I will never win. I suppose he was looking for drunks. My poor kids lovednthat flash light in their eyes.
On the upside, I did finally get all 12 of my hours covered for tomorrow. Wheew. Now I can go to the show without feeling guilty for calling in! Keep your fingers crossed the kiddos get some blues :) I will post pics when it is all over.

Bigz, when I went to feed yesterday two people told me that our lb boy was their favorite bird there :) Are you hatching any out yet?

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. I took Anellia in yesterday and now I have 2 doctors fighting over a diagnosis. One says chicken pox and the other says Hand,Foot & Mouth Disease. Although she has spots all over her body I'm going with the pox, she's doing well just the fever is bothering her and making her pretty miserable. I'm quite glad she's young though so she can't scratch at the spots and make things worse.

Jim I did candle them when I put them in to throw out the non-fertile or dead ones and I am now leaving them. I'm not sure on the growth, is it ok to just leave them on the turner until I see a pip or something to show they are ready? When I candled them they looked about half grown or a little more but not full to hatch as I could see the veining pretty good yet. Just havent' had experience as to if they are the same as the chicken eggs although I know they are 5 days longer than chickens. I just didn't want to put them on hatching trays too soon and not get their turning in. I really don't have much hope for the second batch she brought over as they were left out over night at or about 50 degrees and she got them on heat in the morning to 98 until she brought them over that evening to me and I put them in bator asap. If any hatch it will be a miracle. My bators don't have the full plexi like yours jim but do have a piece down the middle for viewing so I just flashlight to look for pips.

Sammie: if you need carriers come over as I have tons of them and other cages to hold critters, besides you can finally come see my place.

Things are slowing down with hatching. Only 5 SS in the Brinsea I pulled from broody a few days yet to hatch and the 2 trays packed full of layer eggs that look like they won't hatch by Sat morning, fingers are crossed though. I sure hope so as I don't wanna keep them until the next swap which is the 10th at Ladysmith for the fair.

I still have to get the little cooped cleaned out and loaded on the trailer for Saturday and do a few fixings on things. ughs not enough time for all my projects. Also got most of the perlins on the roof of the screen room yesterday. Will finish the roof today and hopefully framing the building and put in windows.
