Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi all! Sorry I have not postd in a while. Life was a little bit,of a whirlwind. Got let go from my last job because small business owner decided that since I put a handbook and policies in place, he did not need hr... He is a little nuts.
Got a new job but they wanted me to start right away and it is 4 days a week instead of three which took some schedule rearranging. My sister in town from TX, SIL in town from CA, rummagr sale and a frien is working in our laundry room/ mud room so house is a disaster and I just did a major paint job in last 24 hours in there before shelves and bench go in. Plus assorted kids summer activities So busy!!

Chickens are good, anxiously waiting for our science fair babies from March 1 to start laying. We got rid of our silkie rooster and now just have the BCM roo from that hatch as our only boy...his crow is so weak sounding and silly. But he has two BCM girls and a bunch of others too.

Guinea owners...are there eggs shells normally much tougher than chicken eggs shells? Some days it feels like Fort Knox to break them open.

Ok off to work. Hubby and kids are going to meet me after I get off at 2 and we are going to some stat parks in the area to go hiking. I need that fresh air and excercise for my legs, painting gave the arms a workout. Later all!

This is only my second time doing guineas Kristi and I've noticed the same thing. I swear their 4 times thicker than.most chicken eggs.

good morning,

wildsam, that's what I thought,,
ducks have much more bulk than chickens, therefore they do not need the heat as long..
and their down is thicker and keeps them warm..
IMHO, you do not have to protect them so much until they are fully feathered..

guinea eggs are tougher than chickens , for sure..

the weather stripping will go on the door today,, then I might even wash the window..

the next project is a new pop door.. I think I will make it slide up and down, and I am thinking of putting it on the inside of the coop and out of the weather..

the chicks in the nursery are big enough to go outside..
for their first time, I am going to let them loose just before dark..
that way they will be close to the door and know enough to go back in..
there are quite a few smaller chicks in with them, but I figure they will follow the flock..

4 White Orpingtons and two Jubilee Orpingtons.

The two Jubilees are Yvettes. (BBP). If anyone going up her way soon and can save her shipping and stress n these chicks?
Or could we make a chicken train?

ta-daaa !!!!!!!!!!!! the door is all finished ..

..
this is the only spot where I could see the whole door..
In retrospect, I should have picked up the tools (Ritht) and garbage (Left) first..
I have to trim away the excess foam, yet..

..
I had to build up the striker plate a quarter of an inch.. this is how I did it..
those are 2 inch screws holding the striker plate in..
I dipped the threads in Gorilla Glue before installing them.
it shouldn't be loosening up anytime soon..

..
this is the sill .. it is slanted up 3/4 inch rise, from the line in the concrete up to the door . it looks flat in the picture.... anyhow, it will divert the water away from the door.
I sprayed the door with the hose and no water went inside ..

..
this pic shows the closed door, the thin strip of weather stripping,
then the red oak door stop and then the 1 1/2 inch space for a screen door, should I ever build one.

and that is the end of the sidewalk and door saga..

as always, you can click on the pictures to make them larger ..

Del, if you can arrange a chicken train up towards here, can you possibly throw in a couple of Toulouse for me? (Eyes batter)

Not sure where Yvette/BBP is located (wasn't that somewhere around Amery?) but I could probably do part of the trip. Maybe if cuties goes til Winter and I take it from there? Let me know...

Looks good Jim!
thanks,, pictures of a door, not real exciting,, but I cut 5 inches off the bottom of that door and built everything to match the door from the sidewalk up.. lots of computing to come up with just 1/4 inch to spare ..

now if the frost doesn't push everything all to heII, it should last for years..

We went out to eat; had a great FFF at Cedar Springs in Manawa. Yummy!

Apparently everyone is busy with their gardens, or something like that......
