Jim, you do not have to justify anything you do to us. Your animals are healthy, and well taken care of. You are only producing what is already spoken for, unlike most who produce and hope somebody will take them off their hands (I am guilty of that myself).

I hope Dora shows up soon.

too wet to work where the tractor is.. I have the chain hoist beam built, just have to stand it up.
Will need help with that as soon as GS has a day off..

cindlady, VERY cute pics! LOVE the cat pic, and the chicks are too cute! makes me want chicks now, I am trying to be good and wait until I overwinter my first year of chickens... keep telling myself this.... good thing I dont have a broody yet or i'd be stuffing things under her left and right I think... the friend who has the barn where the reception will be has a banty with a bunch of duck eggs under her right now... guess he has a friend who had success with this? time will tell....

yeah, what I was thinking too about the chicken chase.... probably not gonna be happy chickens, poor things, but my oldest is sooo excited, he keeps asking me how soon. hope it's not raining then. I don't even dare look at the stupid weather, changes daily anyhow.... as long as it's not lightning we're doing this!

am thinking of trying some of that garden fencing, just like the little looped wire stuff, from farm and fleet for around my deck and see if that stops the geese from walking up it... any thoughts? they are fun, if they wouldn't crap on my deck! (have I mentioned this a time or two???

) lol

ok, well hope everyone has a good weekend! and hope I get my darn calf weaned this weekend, that should be an adventure... might have to post pics.... and of my geese camped at my front door too....

If your geese do not fly, a short height fence will deter them..
I would go with a 2 foot high one.. then you can step over it easily..

I just sold some guineas to a guy who is looking for some geese.. not fussy about what kind..

I just got off the phone with my mother in law, she's running to farm and fleet today, will pick me up one of those little garden fences so won't look like crap (ones with the little hooped tops) and is 18" tall, so we'll see.... I am thinking should hold them, they don't fly and they don't go up the back step of the deck as it's too high up for them... stay tuned.... they are fun (when they don't crap all over by my door!)

any ideas on how to tell boy/girl w/o vent sexing? I have a pomeranian that is pretty much full size and two embden crosses, one is white, one is grey, everyone has blue eyes. no one has tried to do anything with anything else so wondering if that makes them girls? or that just makes them smart males? lol

I bought a pair of grays at an auction .. kept them all winter and fed them..
at the beginning of summer, still no eggs.. then at butchering time, both were males..
one just became submissive and acted like a goose.. did everything except lay any eggs..

my geese walk right up the steps onto the deck.. we don't use our deck very much,, want to guess why ??

I got the chain hoist lifted down from the garage rafters.. all I had to do was convince myself that it wasn't too heavy.. mind over matter.. if you don't mind , then it doesn't matter..

Good evening cheeseheads! Way to much going on to post it all but just dropping in to let you all know that OMET (Eggtoast) and I are still amongst the living and busier then heck. Or at least it seems that way. We came to Rhinelander today to Foster and Smiths sale. Decided to stop at the laundry mat for free internet. Tonight we go to Casino for the drawing on a car. When you eat there and have their daily specials you got two entries for each meal. You have to be present to win. What I want to know is how in the H3ll they would fit all of those people into that building if they all showed up ! LOL have a safe and fun weekend everyone !

Cindlady, I'm going to raise at least 6 pigs next year. That's 6 heads that you can have. Ewwww . . . . I also don't get the ribs or the hocks (normally).

what do they do with the ribs ? just last night I made a whole rack of pork spare ribs.. I cut them apart and boil them for about an hour.. then I mix up some ho made bbq sauce and bake them in the oven in the sauce at 225F for 2 hr 25 minutes,, 225 for 225, easy to remember..
Kalib and I ate them all ..

I prefer venison ribs, then beef and then pork..

I grabbed an almost empty (I thought) ice cream carton out of the freezer.. didn't bother putting it into a bowl.. I am finding out that there is a bit more than I usually eat at one setting.. but I am going to man up and finish it.. can't put it back now.. Kemp's Old Fashioned Butter Pecan..

I made the chain spreader this afternoon, then moved the hoist beam into position to get it raised.. got the chain hoist down from the garage ceiling.. I am going to put the chain hoist onto the beam before I raise the beam.. I think I will be able to use the tractor loader arms to raise the beam most of the way ..

don't get excited, but I think I found Dora's burrow .. under one of the lumber piles like I thought in the first place.. I am going to put some dog burgers at the entrance.. of course I cannot be sure if she eats it or if Gus gets to it first .. maybe I will keep him inside tonight..
