Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm on the lookout for a cabinet incubator. We are finally finishing up our shed and I have an insulated (and soon to be heated) 12 x 14 foot room to use for incubating and brooding. So I finally have room for a cabinet :)
Also, I hatched out 2 silver penciled wyandotte chicks this fall. I was convinced they were both roosters. Well, it appears they are both hens. I can get a pair to put with them for $150 shipped . . .

Morning to all, and Welcome to the cheeseheads hidden!

Did you misread the recipe Jim? It is only 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt...you didn't use Tablespoons by mistake?

Drake, the bread rises from the yeast in the beer...ain't no yeast in the beam for rising the bread....LOL...although you could try a flat heavy beam bread. Or make the beer bread and have a shot of beam with it and have a shot and a beer bread!

I did not use a tablespoon, ,, BUT as I think back on it,, I might have used 2 1/2 teaspoons .. to me , that is about how much too salty it tasted..

Annie bought 25 pounds of all purpose flour for me today,, I will give the bread another shot..

actually the baking powder is the major leavening in this bread.
although there is some yeast action from the beer, too..

I thought it was going to taste like baking powder biscuits , but it does taste like bread..

my bottom crust was so thick I could not cut through it with a serrated knife.. maybe the extra light cake flour had something to do with that .. and the extra salt probably killed some of the rising action..

Annie bought a leash harness for Zeke.. I am not sold on the idea, but am willing to give it a try..
He is getting so good about being walked on the leash, and sitting quietly while I tie and untie him outside..

I told Annie that now I could take Zeke into stores and restaurants with that harness and everybody would just assume that he is my seeing eye dog ..

Nice to hear from you bbp. Glad everything is good by you. Jim might have something he might part with.

I actually am thinking of giving up on the hatching..
but I have my bators so tweaked and modified, that I need to get top dollar for them,,
the bators themselves are not so modified, but I have these many egg trays cut to fit so that I can do about 500 eggs per bator.. to sell the bator separately would leave me with a couple of dozen egg trays.. not to mention the goose/turkey trays.. I have to sell them all as a package deal..

Snowy day to you all! DH and I shoveled the melted tundra from the bottom of the driveway this evening so that the new amount wouldn't add on and freeze up over the next few days.

Went with dad to buy him a new car and we were at the dealer until 1ish. My brother is driving down from Viroqua tomorrow to get his old car.

Then DH and I went on a chore run: crickets, dog and chicken food, lotto tickets, b'day present for my oldest, Home Depot for items for our office and bathroom remodeling, groceries and dinner.

Threw snowballs at Theo, he is like a little kid when it comes to snow. He shovels under it with his nose and bites at it too.

Darn chickens still aren't laying. You guys will need to up date me on what types of chickens you have so that i know who to ask to bring fertile eggs to chicken stock.

BBP- it was good to see you on here!

Night all

Hi All!

Went to Hubby's work Christmas Party tonight, He had prime rib, I had crab legs and brought home at least a cluster and a half. They were not shy with the portion!

Night All!

I am Chicken Stupid but here is what I think I have.....I know I have 4 RIR and a Roo, I have Black Marans, and Grey/Silver/Black Marans (???), They all have fuzzy feet and are broad bodied. I have one Deleware, 1 Black chicken that used to be BareButt but she has all feathered out and is beautiful took all summer and into the winter for her to feather out, guess I have to change her name now, one RedRanger and some Wellsummers. I get 7 eggs a day, we got 9 the other day. Concerned about them today as it is 23 in the coop.

27 in the coop is not dangerous.. it is about 2 in my coop today.. as long as they are out of the wind, they are just fine.

collect eggs often, so they don't freeze.. If they do freeze, they are still OK to use..

If ya have any left over I'll swing by and pick em' up! Yum

Go Pack Go!

I was talking to a lady out in MT a few weeks back that said it gets down to 40 below at her place,no heat in the coop-never a problem. My brother in law in Hillsboro has lost chickens to heat, never the cold.
